I always wondered if the ppl who have surgery in Mexico have followups...or who they ask, if they have post op questions. Heaven forbid there's any problems.

No doubt. I'd be ashamed if I didn't follow my Drs instructions and something went wrong. I can just see it now... "Did you take the Vitamins we gave you?" .... 'no I chewed some flinstones'..
    How embarrassing would that be???

You will be fine I got home from the hospital today. I was also nervous before. My only advice is stay on tract, and force yourself to get up and start walking believe me you'll thank yourself later you will boost your healing process. Any questions please ask that's what all of us are here for we all need support (buddies) to help each other succeed

To follow is a list of comorbidities (additional conditions or diseases) related to obesity which may help you in qualifying for weight loss surgery. Of the 44, you will likely have one or two you van reach for. I wish you good luck and good health

Go get your hair and nails done before surgery! One less thing you need to worry about! I'm getting mine done too but getting clear polish on my fingers and toes because I was told no polish too. They look at your nails to make sure you get your color back after surgery! (They don't do it so you don't feel pretty! There's a reason! Lol)
My surgery is this Friday the 11th and I'm more anxious than nervous! I'm on my 9th day on the pre op liquid diet and I haven't died (or killed my kids) so I'm doing good!! Lmao
I'm hungry and my stomach talks to me A LOT but it's not as bad as I thought!
A few people have mentioned items that I need to bring for my hospital stay but I'm curious if anyone that had it recently wished they had something they didn't bring!! Any help here would be appreciated!! So far this is my list:
    Comfy PJs
    Slippers & socks
    Extra panties & panty liners
(Someone mentioned you may need these for urine spillage, I'm not taking any chances!!) lol
    Pillow
    Hot Water pad
    Gas X strips
    iPad/phone/chargers
    Toothbrush & paste
    books
    Lotion
    Brush and/or comb
    Dry Shampoo
    Skin care (I have rosacea!)
(I sell Rodan and Fields, best skin care EVER!!)
    www.amykring.myrandf.com/shop
If I missed anything, please let me know!! I have been considering this surgery for YEARS but I was too afraid to do it because I am a single mom and if my kids had to go live with their dad they would never forgive me!!! I finally decided to do it because they DO need me to be here for THEIR kids and God willing, their grand kids!! I want to have the life I know now I deserve!!
For too long I have put myself on the back burner and lived for my kids! Time for me to love me!!!
I'm so glad there are others like me who because of LIFE happening we forgot to LIVE!! Go us!! I'm really proud of all of us for putting ourselves FIRST and good luck and prayers to EVERYONE healing from and preparing for surgery!! DO NOT let ANYONE tell you this is "the easy way out" because there is NOTHING EASY about any of this! I'm just glad to have the support provided here!! Have a WONDERFUL day!! (:

You have to understand that you are in the Rants and Raves Section. You probably got here by clicking on new posts.
Rants and raves do not necessarily have anything to this board. You can come to Rants and Raves and gripe about anything you choose that might annoy you. You can feel free to rant or rave anything. If anyone corrects anyone's grammar on a post, bring it to the attention of a moderator. It's a against the terms of service.
I didn't go to college. I started working in downtown Chicago at the age of 17 and left at 6 am to get to work by 8am taking 3 busses to get to work. College was defintitely out of the quesiotn.

Thanks for all the responses! I used the term "friend" when I should have used acquaintance. We live 1000 miles away from each other and are work colleagues and I see her her maybe once a year. We are FB friends and that is where I have seen these great stories of her successes. I did message her about it and she swears she only lost about 20 pounds due to her WLS, got stuck, started taking the pills and BOOM, lost 100+ pounds.
It's all good, though. Every week or so I post something on her wall or on her status asking her how her RNY is going and how "proud" I am of her success regarding her decision to have surgery, brave, strong, great choice, yada, yada, yada, and leave it at that. Oddly enough, she's toned down the enthusiasm for her magic Beans. I also messaged a few of the takers of her pills and told them to be sure to ask her how about her pills in conjunction with her surgery.

Your concern regarding recovery time relative to the nature of your work and 24/7 on call status is certainly understandable. Admirable even. But perhaps it would be useful to examine what role that specific concern should play in a decision as important as bariatric surgery (or for that matter any surgery). You obviously have committed to achieving the many and profound benefits that surgery promises. You are evaluating your options with an eye on relative risks vs. relative benefits. You have the medical opinion of one doctor. And certainly have the option to seek other medical opinions for comparison.
What if? What if you consult with three doctors and all three offer the same recommendation for surgery X? And all three support their recommendation in terms of risks versus potential benefits, minor vs. serious complication rates, success rates of short and long term weight loss, resolution or improvement or avoidance of comorbidities, improved quality of life, the list goes on and on. And what if the recommended surgery potentially has the longest recovery time? Would the recovery time be the deciding factor in your decision?
If your answer is yes, then you have at least somewhat simplified the decision process. If your answer is no, then you have consciously made the decision that one or more of the other considerations associated with surgery take precedence over recovery time. Either way, you have gained valuable insight.
You're not ready until you're convinced. And you're not convinced until you have identified and accepted the risks - surgical, business and otherwise - associated with this very personal decision.
Whatever decision you make, you're gonna love the new you!

I had my very first Protein Shake in the hospital, the day after surgery. I agree, each patient should follow their OWN doctor's orders. We chose them and they know us. :-)

You could also just put your name and "see info behind ID in wallet"... Then you can write as much on the card as you want. I totally understand being nervous. I'm 11 days post-op and I'm still nervous.. I have to keep reminding myself that its over... sounds stupid but I keep panicking that the insurance is going to cancel on me... lol

At that stage I was using the Unjury chicken Soup Protein Powder to get my Protein in. You could also use the unflavored and add it to your Clear Liquids to get your protein. I remember my surgeon telling me that it was more important to get my liquids in immediately after surgery than my protein to avoid getting dehydrated. By mixing the protein powders into my liquids I was getting both of them at the same time.

My husband is the only one who knows. The rest don't matter and I don't need their approval (not likely to get it anyway). I know that sounds very negative, but I really don't need every conversation for the rest of my life to be about weight loss/surgery. I just want to get on with life. I tend to compartmentalize my life.. or create fire walls... lol so if one part blows up at least another part will be "safe" still.

I had Surgery March 25th. I'm 38,will be 39 next month. I wanted to do this now so I can be thin at 40. My highest weight was 250#. Currently at 233#. I suspect I'm still holding on to some post surgery Fluid. I'm excited about this journey. I'll be glad when my incisions stop hurting.

Thats what mine says. I think its fairly important since Ibuprofen and other NSAIDS could actually cause you to hemorrhage and die

OMG my monthly visitor came immediatle after surgery! I couldn't believe it. 2 weeks early! My nurse told me sometimes that happens with surgery and the stress the body is under. However, one good thing about it is I never felt any cramps or had PMS. I wonder what will happen next month..
