cccv4 got a reaction from valarie kk in When does it get better?
Aw! Thank you! I am hanging in there. You guys were right. After Day 4, the physical part gets easier. my stomach is no longer waking me up at all hours of the night. now it has become more of an emotional, mental thing. i cheated last night by having some garlic pretzels. i feel like a failure. i weighed myself and have lost 4 pounds since friday. i haven't been drinking the Protein shakes but have been drinking strictly Water (a gallon a day). my surgeon also told me that i can have egg whites!

It seems Hair loss is greater in people who get bypass or sleeve compared to band...banders seem to look overall healthier during their loss. Would you agree? I need to make a decision pretty soon. Thanks

Thanks everyone. You guys always make me feel better. Before my surgery I had gotten into a heated argument with my best friends mother in law. She's a nurse and basically said I was lazy and just making excuses for not loosing weight. Little did she know I had went thru 2 years of aggressive invetro and the hormones made me gain 50 pounds along with already being overweight and having thyroid problems. I was a recipe for disaster. It just made me start thinking how people will really react to weight loss surgery.

It's none of their business if you don't wish to tell them. Some people tend to be critical of WWS. Some feel like we took the easy way out. Needless to say that have no clue that this just helps curb the appetite. We have to do everything everyone else trying to lose weight has to do.
I eventually told some people but saw no need to share with some others.
BTW I had the band. best of luck to you on your journey.

Same here. Close friends and family are aware but those who don't know me or my struggles don't need to know more than what I tell them. You are not lying, you are committing the 'sin of omission'. Think of it that way.

I've been pretty open to people around me about my surgery. My family, my close group of friends and my co workers. But I'm having a problem with other friends and people that I'm not close to asking "how I did it". I feel like I'm lying to them when I say, I count my calories and workout. It's not a lie because that's what I do but I leave out the part of having the band. How do you guys deal with it?

I'm about 3 months post op - I only told my parents, my fiancé and one close coworker that I eat lunch with everyday. My mom told my grandma and my sister. No clue if my grandma told the rest of the family (for prayer of course during my surgery). My mom told me about my sister in law was planning bypass, so I ended up telling her. My fiancé told his brother. So it's slowly expanded. I still haven't said anything on FB. I hope to keep it pretty quiet.
My sister was hurt to find out from my mom, but knowing her, she would have tried to talk me out of it. I know it's bad to pick her feelings being hurt over mine but I needed the surgery and not to try another quick fix fad diet.

I think the best piece of advice is to do some reading on the "post surgery" message boards if you haven't already. I wished I had because it might have saved me some frustration and helped me to adjust my expectations post surgery. You will not lose like sleevers or RNYers. It will be slow and you will stall in your weight loss around week 3 till your first fill at 6 weeks. DON'T GET DISCOURAGED! I did and I made things harder on myself. This is a different strategy that will work but it is different. Take care of you and trust your nut and surgeon.

I'm also on all liquids for 2 weeks. THIS SUCKS!!! I've been chewing on the same piece of gum for HOURS. I want that candy they had on Charlie and the chocolate Factory, where different flavors of gum resemble different plates of food. Lol

Thanks! 's blog helped me when I was just starting out, and it inspired me to start my own. I am glad it is helping you.
I just updated it with my 4-week recap and the experiences of being on a plane with the band. I'm currently at 35,000 feet feeling no discomfort!
Good luck to you! Keep us informed (maybe start your own blog!)

I was at Starbucks years ago when I was on a low carb diet and had lost LOTS of weight (at least for me I was skinny). I was sitting next to a window and then I took off my sweatshirt because I was hot. An old man across from me said, "You know what is a natural cause of making someone so warm? Excess weight."

Have been struggling with my weight since the age of 13, I had tried many things to lose weight many diets some more successful than others. Moving to Texas and finding out that, here my insurance covers the procedure, I decided to look into having the surgery. Now that I have been approved by the doctor, I super excited to get healthy and stay healthy, and I am glad that I didn't wait til I was 50 or super BBW to do it. Does anyone have experience with true results? Anyone in the southwest Houston area?

I decided on a goal weight by remembering my most reasonable and comfortable adult weight, which was back when I could wear skinny t shirts, my capris were a little loose, and weight watchers was working.
It was twenty lbs heavier than the thinnest adult weight I ever was (around 135), but that's not really reasonable since it was during basic training and such.

Well, my mom used to tell me to "suck it in" when we were in public. She also said she was going to put a lock on the refrigerator. That's true mother's love right there.
I was told that I might be pretty if I wasn't so fat by a kid in high school.
When my first daughter was a year old, one of the ladies I worked with said, "are you pregnant again, or are you just fat?" Nice.

I can't say that things are going to just magically get better. For me, food was a huge comfort and something I enjoyed. It was a way to spend quality time with family and friends. So it does mess with your head a lot! Right after I felt like crap, it was frustrating because I had very unrealistic expectations that I'd come out of surgery and be down 40 lbs and be ready to go shopping for new clothes. But after a couple days your body will start healing and finding a new normal. Then you're going to be tested on your own...you will find that you can probably eat any and all food and that's when you need to start controlling your portions. As your band gets tighter, you will want to be eating properly - eating plenty of Protein, chewing your food very well, following the rules (no drinking while eating) and becoming accustomed to living with your band and working with it not against it. Come on this site when you're feeling down and read about the successes and happiness the band brings. There are times I've regretted my band but then I remember what my band has done WITH me. It's helped me learn to eat better, eat less and to become a new person. I've been banded 3 years and I've recently gained weight due to poor choices after getting sick (totally not related to my band) and I've allowed myself to make excuses when I had some Fluid removed. I'm getting back on this train to be friends with my band again because I love my band and I know you'll learn to love yours! Good luck, you will start feeling better soon, promise.

Sorry but I can't help but laugh at the back and forth feeling that you're having cccv4. It truly is hell. It does get easier but I will be honest and was one of those that cheated. I didn't go all out with Cookies and chips but ate more than I should. I teased/fussed at the nurse - they've had us on supervised diets with appetite suppressants for months for insurance reasons and make us stop those pills two weeks prior to surfer in conjunction with this super low caloric diet.
It will get easier. Are you allowed Gatorade? That will help keep you feeling a bit better. I drank a lot of Water, tea, and coffee during this time.

Trayg, that was how I felt on my pre-op diet. The lifestyle change suddenly became a reality. I'm happy to say I embraced it and I'm following directions this time, which is refreshing. I'm gonna do this and so are you! Stick with it and keep your eyes on the prize!

Love you all! You guys give me strength and I feel I've gained a family!
I agree that the majority of this is a reality shock, which made the first day so depressing. Today I'm better than I was yesterday, and I hope that each day I grow stronger!
I feel that fasting is helping me focus my mind of all the junk I've cluttered it with. We are moving May 1st, so today I did a lot of packing and cleaning. I felt like Wonder Woman, and wondered how I could be so energetic off of Water and Protein lol
