    Menstrual woes .. and questions

I seem to have issues around my period. 3-4 days of a very irritable band that will cause trouble no matter how well I eat. What s tricky for me is I don't have a regular period anymore.....so it happens out of the blue
  2. I am on day 3 of my pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for April 23. My Dr. requires 2 weeks of 2 Protein shakes per day with a small meal, then 2 weeks of liquids only. So, here is my question/issue.......I have been drinking the shakes and they make me really nauseous. The last three days I have just felt like I could vomit at any minute. I have tried 4 different kinds/flavors. I am drinking pretty high Protein Shakes, 32 grams per.....not sure if that is the issue. Any suggestions?
  3. This has been a crazy week. One of those weeks where I worked every day and had some work event each night. Just exhausting. But...several interesting things happened: 1. A few different NSV's this week. I was able to wear several things from my closet that I haven't worn in a couple of years. That was really good.....I needed them for a couple of dressy events. 2. I totally got checked out by some guy at the gas station. I seriously don't remember the last time that happened. I tend to be oblivious to that stuff....but this was really obvious. 3. A couple people noticed and commented on my weight loss....they are basically the first that have noticed,....which is weird since I haven't lost in about two weeks....but whatever. 4. And the biggie...my first stuck and burping episode. My period came this week, unexpectedly because I have an IUD and haven't had a period in months. When I had surgery I was warned that some people seem a little tighter around that time, but didn't give it much thought because I haven't been having periods. I'm about 5 weeks post op and have no fill, so since starting back on "normal" food I have basically no restriction other than what I am attempting to do...basically just a diet at this point. So, Hubby and I take the kids and go out to dinner at a BBQ place he likes. I order some BBQ beef with roasted veggies. Have had it since surgery a couple of times, no issues. First bite, I guess it was too big or I didn't chew enough or both and BAM! Stuck! Painful, feels like a heart attack stuck. I tried sipping some Water, the water went down, but still stuck and still in pain. I sat for a couple of minutes but was getting increasingly uncomfortable so I quickly headed to the restroom. Then I started with the sliming. Never had it before and it was very unpleasant. Spitting and spitting and that hunk of meat feels like it is stuck in the middle of my chest. I spent about ten minutes in the bathroom, before it finally just went down, I burped and it was basically over. Dinner was over too, I managed to sip a little tea and that was it. Kept with liquids for about 24 hours after. So......my first fill is in just over a week. I suspect that I will have to be more careful than I have been and if my period comes again, super careful at that time once I have the fill added. First fill in a week,,,,can't wait!

    taking bites every few minutes

I'm in the bandster hell stage now. About a month post op, no fill at all and dr won't fill until six weeks. Once the swelling went down and my appetite came back, it really came back. I lost 23 pounds so far, right now I'm basically focusing on maintaining that until I start fills and not getting discouraged. The good news is the weight I did lose was enough to let me wear some clothes out of my closet and feel a little better going into summer. Hoping that first fill in a couple of weeks makes a big difference.

    Burping ?

I am one week post op, still on clear/thin liquids only. Every time I drink more than just a sip or two, I notice that I get an uncomfortable pressure in my lower chest/upper stomach area. I wouldn't call it pain, more like a tight feeling, almost like if you have swallowed something too large. Then usually a giant burp and I feel better. I have never burped so much in my life. I feel like a giant baby, drink a couple of ounces and then burp, drink some more......burp. Anyone else have this? Normal? Do you thnk some gas x would help with this?
  6. Got my band at about 8:00 this morning. So far I have a little pain, hospital all is giving me IV meds for that. My dr requires an overnight stay, so I will rest comfortably here tonight I lost 15 pounds in my pre-op, and I'm excited to get started in my new life!

The school is closer to Davidson, right off 77 at exit 31. But no pressure to use that location. I just wanted to put it out there as a place we have easy access anytime we want.

Gixxergirl, My only immediate idea would be my husbands school. However, that is in Mooresville, which might not be the most convenenient location for everyone. But we would always have access to it. Another plug for the school is he has a gym, weight room, etc....so if we ever wanted to do some sort of exercise demo....we would have that space available. Depending on the size of our group, I am also willing to offer up my house. I have a large open kitchen, might be a good spot if we ever want to do a cooking demo or sample favoritte food finds.

While I don't want to lead the group, I would be happy to help out. Did we have a leader volunteer for this group?
  10. I will be returning to work in Monday, having just had surgery on Wednesday. I know it is a bit soon, but that is all I can really do. So, on Monday I am still on thin liquids, and will be for over a week. I do have a mini fridge and microwave in my office. Any suggestions regarding foods that will work well for this stage, minimal preparation and will give me the energy I need to get through a workday? So far I'm thinking Water Apple juice Can of broth I am particularly interested in ideas for Soups. My info from the dr/nutritionist says "thin soups not creamy with no vegetables or meat" other than a plain broth, I'm at a loss on this one. Thanks in advance for any ideas.
  11. I was banded on Wednesday. As of tonight I am still having a very uncomfortable pain that feels like it is my upper stomach, diaphragm area. I can't tell if it is actual pain or maybe I'm hungry? My intestines sound like they are grinding rocks, you can literally hear it across the room. And I have diarrhea. I definitely have not over eaten, I've been afraid to eat so I have had Water, juice and broth in small quantities. And my abdomen is still pretty swollen and sort of hard. So.....is all this normal?

Thanks ladies. I went to the grocery yesterday and got a squash soup, French onion soup and a corn chowder I am going to use with my stuck blender.

Hi ladies! I live in Huntersville, just on the North side of Charlotte. I was banded on 4/23, so still figuring it all out. I would be really interested in getting a group going, meet up periodically and just be a real life support system. Anyone else interested?

    Just banded today!

Hi Georgeann! I work in eduction as well (assistant principal in a high school). We are on spring break this week, so that why I picked this time to do it. My husband and I talked about waiting until summer....and that might have been a little more practical, but I just wanted to get it done! As for the two week liquid diet, it was rough, I will admit. I did "cheat" some....for example I had some Soup that had some chunks of chicken in it. Not totally liquid. My mainstay was Protein shakes. They helped with the hunger a lot. I also just tried to keep busy and I went to sleep earlier than normal to avoid late night temptations. Good luck to you, feel free to reach out with any questions.
