You will have to tell HR but thats it. HIPPA laws prevent them from sharing that info with anyone else. -
Give your opinion to tell or not
Bigjkzgrl replied to New Me 787's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I dont tell people. I tried being honest about why I was going to the doctor so regular but I quickly learned to stop sharing. I had someone tell me that their friend died because she had it. Then someone else that was like all your hair is going to fall out or people will say you are going to be sick all the time. So I have stopped telling anyone. When I was asked about what surgery im going on leave from work for I just said I have some stomach issues they will be looking at. I have to stay focused & in order to do that I cant have people speaking negative about my choice. So my support comes from this group and my husband and children. -
Hello everyone my name is Tywoana, I live in Phenix City Al. I am a 41 year oldwife and mother of 3 son's. My oldest was killed in 2011. I was always overweight but once my son was killed I gained over 100 lbs. I tried to lose the weight knowing that it wasnt healthy for me but the more I lost the more I gained. I decided last year that I would look into having the sleeve and the job I had at the time excluded WLS from their coverage. I then made a life changing decision to go to a job that would cover so in September of 2013 I left my job of 10 years to start over at Wellpoint. I tried to start the process in 2013 but was misquoted on the coverage and the discouraged. I pulled myself together and did my research found out the info I had received was wrong. I had my first visit with my surgeon at the end of February. I was provided a list of what I would need to do. I completed it all in March and was given my approval at the end of March. My surgery date in the 28th and I have been staying busy to avoid the jitters. People that I would tell about my plans always say something dumb to rock my confidence so at this point I only confide here and with my husband and 2 sons. I want to say thank each of you for being so informative and welcoming!

My doctor told me if he gets in and sees any issue that will hinder the bypass he will do sleeve. However he did say he didnt forsee any problems. I asked about drains and he told me only if there was difficulties would he put those in. He also said if he saw that there was an issue with the gall bladder he would remove it as well. I pray that everything goes smoothly for everyone. Lets keep each other encouraged. -

Im am day 3 into my liquids. Im doing 3 shakes per day, eating sf jello and plain greek yogurts mostly. Also drinking lots of waterand gatorade. Its torture! Yesterday at my job was the chili cookoff that was just nerve wrecking. I made through though. Today ismy preop appt with the surgeon and dietician. Sirgery on the 28th and it can get here quick enough! Im in the worse mood ever my husband and children have advised me they just have to stay out of my way until surgery day because im biting their heads off. Is anyone else dealing with this and how are you easing the cranky feeling? -
Anyone having surgery in May
Bigjkzgrl replied to Cupcake's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would just call the surgeons office and let them know your situation and ask them if they have a tenative date from their end. Thats what I did and they gave me the date right away. Told me I would need to do the EGD and it had been scheduled and where then told me I needed to see the surgeon and nutritionalist and the date and date of surgery. Congrats by the way. My date is April 28th so I will be very happy when your date gets here whenever it is. -

I am just ready to get it over at this point the whole 2 weeks of liquids before and after is enough to make me want to float but im sure it will be fine. All of you are strong and your stories keep me encouraged. I am a little nervous but im more afaid of what will happen if I dont change. Its time I spend some time taking care of me. Be blessed and speedy recoveries for those going this week. -

My surgery date is the 28th and my wedding anniversary is the 21st. We are celebrating next weekend so we can have a glass of together. Im so excited I can barely contain myself. -
You definitely will need to start again. Check for new company coverage as well...if its employer coverage the employer can elect to exclude bariatric services for a cheaper rate. So all of this will play a part in your future coverage.

Approval with insurance company is for a certain amount of time. Dont know how much you will need to repeat if cant set a date and let doctor notify insurance. As far as moving out of state. You will have to start completely over if not going to use the same doctor & facility. I work for an insurance company so mostly the same in every company. Once pre authorization is given that normally that has an expiration date. You can call your insurance company they will let you know.
