  1. Today is my first day on all liquids, and I do believe my stomach is touching my back! This is really going to be a challenge. I don't understand how some don't have to do the pre-op diet, some do one or two days, and I'm doing two weeks. I'm just going to keep my eyes on the prize. 4/15 is my surgery date, which is also tax day. So essentially, Uncle Sam will be in my pocket whilst Dr. Wooldridge is in my gut. Men are so greedy.

I had a Protein shake for Breakfast, chicken broth, sf Jello and Water for lunch and drank Water all day. I ran back and forth to the restroom so much that I thought of moving my desk there. When I got home I was so hungry I hurried and had a Protein Shake. I guess I'll have vegetable broth, Jello and more water and imagine that I'm at Olive Garden eating my fav chicken and Gnocchi Soup. If anyone can add ideas to this diet, they'd certainly be appreciated. :)

  2. Hi everyone. I am new to this website, but I'm so glad to have found one that I could register on without problems. I had my vertical sleeve surgery on 02-13-14. I am doing good. I haven't weighed this week but I feel like I look like I haven't lost much this week. Nothing tastes the same as before surgery. I am trying to stick close to the diet they gave me. I am excited to get an elliptical machine or some sort of exercise equipment to help speed up my weight loss! I am looking for a used one since I am on a low, low budget! I'm looking forward to conversing with my fellow February sleevers! \Have a good day! cja76

Where are you? I have an elliptical that I haven't used in years, but I'm in New Orleans.

  3. Unless Ochsner offers their own financing- I'm out! That's what's holding me back! My insurance excludes ALL bariatric surgery even if it's deemed medically necessary! My credit is good, but no bank will loan me $15,000 without collateral. I'm only 30- my retirement fund is not yet large enough to borrow against. And, no, I'm not going to Mexico. Any other ideas? I've had no luck finding private insurance that covers bariatric surgery......i'm all out if ideas. Carecredit doesn't cover the entire procedure.....

Actually, Ochsner goes though care credit first, then bank of Nevada makes payment arrangements for any left over. The best thing about the bank of Nevada is that It's ZERO interest on hospital balances. They pay the hospital off and you pay them back. You should call the bariatric financial counselor and inquire. I truely hope it works out for you. Believe me I understand this delima.

  4. Has anyone used or going to use Dr. James Wooldridge at Ochsner in New Orleans? They have submitted my paperwork. Now I'm in the waiting game. I've done what research I've could on my doctor. But I have not met him as of yet. I just wandered if anyone has used him or Dr.Richardson?

How did you make out with Dr. Wooldridge? Any issues?

  5. Hello! After visiting with my PCP, he and I have decided that gastric sleeve surgery is my best option for losing weight. He has referred me to a surgeon at HIS hospital. I'm guessing my PCP is required to recommend surgeons who work at the same hospital as he does...

I am REALLY scared about the procedure! I need comforting words and recommendations for surgeons with excellent track records. I have read SO many horror stories about surgeons damaging other organs during surgery and post-op leaks that keep people from working/living life and even leaks that kill people! I know I can't be the only person who is scared and feels clueless! Please help ;)

I've chosen Ochsner. You should look into their program.

  6. I made it through my first week. I did not experience pain from my incisions or from my new sleeve, but the AIR, GAS...whatever you may call it has been mortifying. I still have some of it left, so I walk, walk, walk, dance, move around and repeat these steps over and over again. Also, I have been having an issue with making sure I have enough fluids, I love Sonic ice so I always get a Route 44 cup and eat that during the day and sip the Water as it melts. I am determined to find what works for me and make this change.

"I can do ALL things through CHRIST who strengthens me!"

Have you started driving? Are you using pain meds? Do you have any weak spells? Thanks in advance! And yes, God's strength is amazing!

  7. I was sleeved with a hiatal hernia, spent 24 hours in hospital, took one dose of pain med when I got home Tuesday at 3 pm, and Wednesday afternoon I drove to the grocery store. On Saturday I drove to the mall and walked around 3 hours. I took it slow, but I felt wonderful. I am 67.

WOW! I'm praying to have the same results minus the hernia. So happy for you!
