    Dr. Aceves or Dr. Lopez?

Dr A. Lopez did my sleeve on May 19th, and he also repaired my hiatal hernia. There were 4 others in my group that were sleeved that day, and the nurse told me he did a total of 9 sleeves that day (I unfortunately was number 9; didn't get to the OR until after 10PM). Other than having to wait the entire day, I am happy with my decision, Dr. Lopez, and the care I received. I keep in touch daily with the other 4 people I got to know who were sleeved the same day by the same doctor, and none of us have had any complications. I had no issues going to Tijuana, and may return to the same hospital next year for a breast lift with 2 other women in my group. I'm down 16 pounds and feeling great, belly is still a bit tender, but I'm getting my Protein and fluids in. Best of luck with your decision.

    Dr. Aceves or Dr. Lopez?

I had my sleeve done by Dr. Lopez yesterday. No pain, no gas, very pleased with my care.
  3. I had great success with Nutrisystem, moderate success with Atkins, and limited success with Weight Watchers. No success with a plethora of diet pills and cleanses and other behavior modification programs. I don't have an issue taking the weight off - my issue is keeping it off. With menopause and a very underactive thyroid, I have to eat less than 1100 calories a day to maintain weight loss. I simply cannot do that on my own - I need the sleeve to help me with portion control. It's not what I eat that gets me, it's how much I eat. I can't think of any other tool to help me except WLS. No more excuses! Surgery is Monday in TJ with Dr. Lopez. I can't wait!
  4. Perhaps if your sister knows that you are going, with or without her, she might change her mind? I had a similar situation with my husband. He told me I was crazy to even think about going to Mexico, and couldn't I just "eat less and exercise more, like normal people do"? Once he realized I was going, with or without him, he said there was no way he would let me go through this alone. He still does not agree with my decision, but he is supporting my decision. I'm a lucky gal. (BTW, my surgery is Monday 19 May with Dr Lopez in TJ. I look forward to meeting anyone else having surgery next week and staying at the Marriott). Lenae
  5. You are certainly entitled to your opinion. What I don't understand is why you are even reading much less responding to this thread, which is in the "Surgery in Mexico" section, if you have no intention of going to MX for your surgery?
  6. My surgery is May 19th w/Dr Lopez. Maybe I will see you before I go; are you staying at the Marriott on the night of the 22nd?
  7. I'm scheduled with Dr Lopez on 19 May. If you do a search on this board, you will find several others who have also had Dr Lopez and were pleased with the procedure and care received. Lenae

    Dr Lopez

Thank you so much for answering! There is always so much controversy about medical tourism, and I wanted to hear first hand that the surgeon I picked was as good as his advertising says he is.

    Dr Lopez

NewNicole, I was hoping you could post an update on how things went for you. I'm scheduled with Dr. Lopez for 19 May, and would like to know if you were satisfied with everything? Lenae
  10. Jrhsangel, my husband will be going with me. I'd be fine by myself, but he insists on going. I think he's afraid they're going to harvest a few organs while they're in there! I hope we can meet and share stories. Lenae
  11. Mayra, I am scheduled with Dr Lopez May 19th, I'll let you know how things are there when I get back. Lenae
  12. Hearing all your stories is inspiring; thank you all for posting. Choosing WLS was a tough decision for me, and this board has helped me feel better about it. Lenae
  13. I am scheduled for surgery in May, self-pay in Mexico. I don't plan on anyone but my husband knowing. I'm 51 years old, 5'1" with a large frame, and weigh 187 lbs. I am sure people would judge me because they think I'm not overweight enough to offset the risks of surgery. Well, I'm obese, and without surgical intervention that will never change. I'm pre-hypertensive and have been hypothyroid for 14 years, just went through menopause which added more weight. Yes, I should be able to lose the weight with diet and exercise. I probably could, but I know from experience I can't KEEP it off. I see no reason why I shouldn't prevent future medical problems by using this tool to help me. But, even my husband says "Oh if you would just get out and walk a few miles a day you'd be fine". No one but an obese person understands the unhappiness, frustration, and even shame of being obese. I'm tired of being obese, and tired of trying to justify my weight to myself and others. I refuse to even discuss this surgery with friends or family. Sorry for the rant, but I think we should be able keep our surgery private for as long as we want.
