I use the Black and Decker electric shake maker from Target that I paid $16 for. I can drink from the container too.

    Calcium Suggestions

I'm glad that you wrote this post as I find the things we need to take are expensive, too. I bought this big container of Centrum Calcium and find they are chalky and give me a stomach ache. In fact, I'm having another upset stomach now. I'm stuck now and have to use the rest of this big container. What good is it if we have to suffer taking them and paying high prices. Hope someone comes up with a solution.

    Pre-op Preparation

I'm not very inventive either. I just don't have any variety planned or thought about. That's the only thing that bothers me. I live alone and this makes it easier but also a bit scary. Don't know how I'm going to feel after and just am unsure what to stock up here before I go to surgery. I don't have a date yet as I still have to have the colonoscopy and endoscopy on the 11th of April. Yuk with the prep.

    Feeling Normal?

I remember when I had my C-sections that the staples hurt so bad. Ah, after they clipped the staples I felt like my old self.

    Pre-op Preparation

So glad that you are preparing as I am also. It's really good to prepare like this. Yesterday I went to the Dollar Tree and bought 2 divided dishes for babies and some cute disposable spoons. They also had some tiny square containers (10) of them in a bag. Gosh I think as I look at the tiny things that we will be eating this little when we are done with surgery. Kinda funny though. Are you excited?
  7. you bet I will stay in contact...rest assured. I need to sign off for the night as I have to get to bed. Goodnight and look forward to reading something from you soon. Bye for now......
  8. Oh Ricardo, welcome to this wonderful site. I am new here also. Maybe a week. I was so happy to read your post and know the feeling of being overwhelmed. I don't have many people except for the new group that I just joined from the hospital that I am going to have bypass. I am sure someone will come on and give you the nicest ideas and this will give you more confidence than ever. I will be watching too as I need to read the letters that I am sure you will be getting. See, it will not only help you but me as well. I'm so happy for you. I don't have a date yet but am sure I will be like you are right now. The team at your hospital will give you loving care and advice.....bye for now.

    How many calories?

I'm pretty new to this but aren't we supposed to be on a liquid diet for 2 weeks prior? And then the just clear liquids?
  10. Hi everyone: Just met with the surgeon here in Bristol, Ct on Thursday. All went well and have decided that a bypass is the best for me. I weigh 242 and am trying to gather my mind on the subject of food. I don't like to cook much as from my stance things that are healthy seem so bland. I don't have any imagination to experiment with different spices and such. She looked at the things I brought in for her to examine and at this point it seems nothing is good. I brought the Equate shake which she said that I should just finish what I have and not to use it. I showed her the Pure Protein Bars and she said it's not a good choice. Then the Care One sold at Stop and Shop and she said that this isn't a good choice either. She wrote down to include protein at each meal and vegetable or fruit, decrease carb Snacks and replace w/veg/fruit/protein. I went and bought cauliflower, carrots, salad green not iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, English cucumber. Not wanting to use bottled dressing I found that without that imagination ended up eating it plain Yuk. I browned some pork thin cut cutlets and that left nothing to be desired. Like I said, no ideas of what to do with this stuff. I'm a casserole type of person so I could always warm things up a day after or so. But this eating healthy is the most trying aspect of this whole life style change. Now with this exercise thing....I fear falling when I walk for health. Last time I did I fell face down on the sidewalk and required 3 stitches on my upper lip and smashed my glasses which required new ones.. Anyone else have this dilemma?

    Eating the proper food

The surgery date has not been established. The nutritionist in the office was the one that told me all that I have shared in the last post. realize that every hospital has different ideas. I was going to have the surgery in Hartford Hospital two years ago and everything was different from my local hospital. It was the distance that made me back out from Hartford.

    New to site

Hi Everyone. I'm Lorraine from Bristol, Ct. Having the bypass but not sure when the date will be. I'm starting to be confused as to the foods that I can eat. Nutritionist said only unprocessed food. That's a problem right now as I need support to find a variety that won't bore me to death. Anyone have suggestions. I am a senior citizen and live alone so cooking isn't interesting me much anymore. Since I'm on the road most of the time it seems difficult for me to figure out the take along foods in my car.
