    post op from April 29th

Well today is day 6 and I went back to work today. Not too bad, a little twinge from time to time in the largest incision. Used my binder for support, really seemed to help. Getting better with protein and liquids. Can't believe it will be one week tomorrow! Keep posting...

    POST-OP DRINKING AND EATING

Psychoangel, my nut recommended Chef Dave Recipes for Weightloss Surgery Success. I downloaded it to my kindle for less than 10.00 from amazon. The recipes look amazing and so simple. Can't wait to try them out. Hope this helps.
  3. Good for you! Good things will hopefully keep coming your way, now that your on the right track. Hang in there!
  4. That's great advice bladefox, it does sound like she grazing and we do need to eat slowly but set a limit and 30 minutes sounds like a good target. You can do this! It just takes time and practice.

    post op from April 29th

So glad to hear from you all! Today is post-op day 5, I can't believe it. Things have been wonderful being home, so happy just to sit in my own chair. Very little pain, only take pain meds at bedtime. Felt so good showering and wearing own clothes. My meds take me all day to take, just because I have so many and only take two or three at a time and then wait about an hour and repeat. It hurts to take more than that at a time, very different for me, used to swallow 16 at one time. The only time I have pain is if I try to take too big of a swallow. Have to remember baby sips! Each day gets better and better, so glad I've had this done. Keep posting...

    post op from April 29th

Angell sorry to hear about nausea and vomiting, thankfully that has not been the case for me. Even before this I would rather cut off an arm then vomit. Just hate it! Waiting for hubby to come get me so I can go home, take a shower, and sit in my own reclined. I think that alone will make me feel loads better. So swollen with all the extra fluid and no arthritis meds. All and all though so glad to be here! keep posting!

Thank you so much for the kind thoughts and encouragement! I wish you the same:) You will do the same. Pain not so bad, didn't ask for meds until 0530 today and have only taken a total of three doses, so far. Food is not really appealing, but ice chips are wonderful. My husband and boys are on their way up to see me and will bring broth, tea, Isopure, and jello. Hopefully it will be better than the hospital's. Walking, using inspirometer, and now drinking, what a full day! Keep posting.
  9. Well fellow sleever's, seems so unbelievable to being saying that. I feel so blessed to be on the otherside. Hands are really swollen and pain mainly in one incision, didn't know I needed an order to be able to use gas x strips so they're off limits tip Dr writes, hummed cause the gas is what's really bothersome. Just wanted to do a quick update, more layer today...

    April 29 th 2014 surgery

I'm the 29th as well! Excited, nervous, anxious, irritated and any other emotion you can think of. So much going on, school (last 3 weeks of nursing school), my mom's failing had to start hospice today, brother that lives with her giving me grief and no help, working part time, husband and kids. Everything getting under my skin, I refuse to postpone. Preop diet consists of thee shakes a day. Ultramet, not too bad, and water or low, no calories beverage. So jealous of those if you who can eat, but almost over. My doctor uses drains, catheter, and leak test and swallow test. Looks like I'm in for some fun. Stay strong, keep posting, love reading them!

    Any April Sleevers?

I'm so glad to read all your stories and see you are all doing so well. My surgery is set for Tuesday, little wrinkle in the plan, went for preop testing on Tuesday and potassium was 2.9. Not good, so I'm on horsepill potassium supplements twice a day with retest Monday. Keeping my fingers crossed it will be better and no ramifications from it. My mom has not been well for a while now, diagnosed with Alzheimer's a few years ago, my brother lives with her, but not being cooperative at all. Had to enroll her in hospice today, was hoping she would stay well til after surgery but not the case. Hoping she does well while I'm in the hospital. It's been a long haul for her, so I'm hoping for the best. Need to make a quick recovery, for her and myself since I'm finishing nursing school in three weeks, much to do! Hoping for no nausea and minimal gas pain. Figure I gave birth twice with no epidural, so I hope I will do well. My life is soooo crazy and exciting right now, some days too much to handle. Sorry for rambling, but feels ggod to let some of it out. Wishing everyone well!!! Keep posting, it makes me feel good to read them all.
  12. Fabulous!!!! Keep it going.

    Really need some support

I'm having surgery April 29th and have not shared with many people either so I understand your dilemma. You might want to share this site with your husband, maybe with more information he'll be more supportive of your decision. If not, we'll be here for support, encouragement, and to accompany you along the way. Hang in there and stay positive!

    Who Are You?

My name is Melissa, and I'm 49 years old. I'be been married for 21 years to my husband Tim and we have two boys 13 and soon to be 17 years old. I joke and say the only time in my entire life that I was underweight was the day I was born and it's been an uphill battle ever since. I am finishing nursing school in a month and receiving an associates degree in nursing science and criminal justice as well. I hope to start my bachelor's in the fall and take my NCLEX in July. I feel that this is the right decision for me because I have gained and lost so much weight in my life I could make six or seven regular size people. I'm ready for a permanent change and a tool that will assist me in being successful. I have numerous comorbidities (rheumatory arthritis, hyperlipidemia from the prednisone used to treat the RA, hypothyroidism, and recently diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea). I'm hopeful that the weight loss will greatly improve my health. I want to be around to enjoy my children and family and to make a difference in other people's lives as well. I am currently scheduled for surgery April 29th and am learning to enjoy my Protein shakes. I lost almost 35 pounds prior to beginning my pre-op diet and am so excited. Looking forward to making some friends along my journey. Keep you posted.

I'm April 29th, and just started my pre-op liquid diet. Three shakes a day and ad lib water. Not too shabby! I'm so excited to be on my way. I love this site, inspirational, informative, and great to have someone to talk to that knows how you feel. So glad my surgeon's office turned me on to you. I look forward to continuing me journey with you all!
