    50's

I am 58 and having bypass this Friday, 6/27. I am scared to death because I have read all these stories of post op people vomiting, constipation PAIN etc. etc. Pain doesn't worry me as I have been in pain for the last 10 years. Vomiting and constipation worry me. I am concerned about my incisions and what the muscles have to do when you vomit. I know this is quite graphic and I apologize. I am also concerned about taking meds with such tiny amounts of water and not wanting to take anything at all because afraid I will bring it up. Did any of you have these worries or not have these problems?

    June 2014 Dates!?

Praying for all the June surgeries. My gastric bypass is June 27th but I do not have the time yet. I start two weeks of protein liquids this Friday, June 13th (omg just realized that is "Friday the 13th"; glad that is not my surgery day lol). Going for a little Mexican food tonight with friends from work but I will be eating light but might have to have a Margarietta lol! Please keep me, and all of our June surgery friends posted on how everyone is doing. PM me if any of you can. God Bless all of you!
  5. I am so happy for you. I can relate a little because I am 58 but having gastric bypass on the 27th of this month. I am hoping that a year or 16 months from now I will be looking at some augmentation. Was any or all of this paid for by your insurance?

    June 2014 Dates!?

    Anybody having surgery June 27th?
  7. Sounds like gas but being a nurse I would call the surgeon's office to be sure. You are too soon post op to ignore pain. Good luck hope all will be ok.

    50's

Nope, OleHippieGal, I am 58 and now probably the oldest in the group lol. My surgery is approved and will happen on June 27. I am having RNY at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, PA by Dr. Petrick. I am nervous but excited. I need to have this surgery to lose the weight for back surgery. I have severe Spinal Stenosis which impairs my ability to walk and I am in pain 24/7....but I keep smiling! Glad to be in the group. Good luck to all of you. I start liquids on the 13th but I did it before for two weeks to get to my required weight so it will be OK. I have many other health problems so I am looking forward to better health and live longer. I have two beautiful daughters; my oldest is a nurse and became engaged so we are planning a wedding. My younger daughter is single; a chef but luckily is on a healthy diet lol. I am hoping that I not only feel good but look good. Anyone worried about excess skin and wrinkles? Let me know if you discovered any lotions or potions to try. Talk soon I hope!

    50's

Well everything is a GO! Received my insurance approval today for RNYon June 27th. I start the liquid protein diet on the 13th. I did it before for two weeks to get to the weight I needed to see the surgeon and have my Doc write the letter. It isn't too bad so I know I can do it. Hope all is well with the fellow 50's. We will have to compare notes about the deadly sagging sssskkkkiiiinnnn lol. I hope it isn't too bad. Let me know if anyone in the over 50 group had issues with facial skin and increased wrinkles. I will welcome any advice; lotions, exercises et.

Hi! I am having my RNY on June 27th. I know exactly what you are saying. I have severe back problems rquiring surgery but the surgeon would not do it until I loose weight. I cannot take ther pain much longer and trouble walking so I am having the surgery. I look for the handicapp stalls and have alot of trouble with the butt wipe too lol. I can't wait to cross my legs. I have Diabetes, Rheumatoid Arthritis, sleep apnea, Fibromyalgia etc. etc. lol. I want to fit in an amusement park ride again. I want to feel better healthwise and about myself. Hang in there. We can do it!!! I'll be your shoulder if you want to be mine and if not I will still listen to you. Best wishes Kathleen

    June 2014 Dates!?

I am scheduled for RNY on June 27th and have not heard back from the insurance. I was told by the PA in Nutrition that they would not have scheduled the appointment with the surgeon if I had not been approved, so I guess I am OK. Good Luck let me know how you are doing!

    50's

I am 58 and am scheduled for RNY on June 27th. I am always looking for older women and how they made out with their weight loss, skin issues, health status, hair loss etc. Glad to hear that you are out there. Keep me in the loop.
  14. I was going for the sleeve and the surgeon convinced me that the bypass was a better choice. I am an insulin dependent Diabetic who will never be off of insulin and take tons of other meds for medical conditions; Rheumatoid Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, and Spinal Stenosis. I am hoping that some of my pain will go away. Because I have bad reflux he also felt the bypass was a better choice. My surgery is scheduled for 6/27/14 and I am scared but cannot wait at the same time. I am a nurse so I get it and belive me it doesn't help. Lisavz not sure why your blood sugars went up. Stress on the body (surgery and healing) can increase your blood sugars. I would keep a tight monitoring of it and what you ate that may cause it to be elevated. Hopefully it is just a temporary thing. Are you testing two hours after eating? Well keep in touch . Nice being in this conversation.
  15. I am so excited for you. My starting weight is 257 and I am have sleeve surgery very soon. I meet the surgeon on 5/20/14 and then the date for surgery. I have met all my requirements so I am good to go. Do you have an issue with excess skin? Hope my 5 months out looks and feels similar to yours!
