What’s Your Relationship with Caffeine?
I drink several mugs of regular coffee with cream every morning. I usually switch to decaf in the afternoon and drink that until about 3pm. Caffeine after 2pm will keep me from falling asleep at night. I learned that a few years ago. Reading recently about the acid effects of coffee on one's stomach and getting a little worried. I gave up Prevacid shortly after banding so I have no protection against the acid, whether it's regular or decaf. I love my coffee. I hope I'm not doing harm. I don't feel anything odd. No reflux or pain.

Starting 5:2 and no scale this week
God give me patience and give it to me NOW. Up 0.8. This, after a week of decent food choices, no alcohol, no food at the movies, some (not enough) walking, and clean fasting days. My clothes are falling off and I had to replace several items this week. Well, I will just keep on plugging along. I'll have a good day of outdoor exercise with some friends today and we have great weather for it. I will just keep the food clean and keep tracking faithfully. Oh, just noticed this. I just reread my MyFitnessPal diary for the last seven days. My week of so-called decent food choices averaged out to 1,770 calories for a non-fasting day. I'm supposed to be aiming for 1,000. Maybe a little less hummus this week as a meal, and a little more solid Protein. And in my food diary I just noticed also that five different days this week I either went to a restaurant or ate restaurant takeout food. My old nemesis fried food is back. Thai food twice, once being last night. Hmm. My daughter was in town for a couple of those days, but that "special" eating sure explains a lot. Ok. Well, clean up the food choices, eat more solid protein and less hummus, cook more, eat out less, and get more walking in. I gotta WORK for my pass through the Onederland gates, huh? Mission accepted.

Banded on 10.22.14 Something is off...
Um no. Not the diarrhea. Loose stools come with a liquid diet but not horrible diarrhea. That with the nausea and lightheadedness could be a stomach bug. Call your doctor and see what they say.

How long can you wear your pants?
I did that accidentally. I thought a pair of dress pants were still too tight but by the time I tried them on they looked like clown pants. I was pretty mad at myself about that. So now I check my "future" clothes every week.

How long can you wear your pants?
I saw a friend last night I haven't seen in three weeks. I was wearing a "new" pair of jeans I got from Goodwill last week. It was my first time wearing them. She tugged on the loose back thigh and said, "Time to invest in some smaller jeans, kiddo!" I said these ARE my smaller jeans !! Which is why I only invested five bucks in them. Lol. Good problem to have. I bought another smaller pair for another five bucks today. Also got 11 more blouses and spent a grand total of 52 bucks. I'm good for another couple of months, I think.

Starting 5:2 and no scale this week
Shoulder slowly improving. Weird. I went to the movies yesterday with friends and reeeeaaaallllyy wanted the free popcorn I had a coupon for. Well I didn't really want that small free popcorn. I wanted the giant tub of it. And I didn't really want the lousy crapcorn that movies have nowadays. I wanted the old real oil popped corn from my youth. And I didn't want the butter flavored chemical concoction they offer now. I wanted real butter. And even though I was truly slightly hungry, nothing healthy would satisfy my "wants". So I just watched the movie. When I got home later I was truly hungry, so I had 10 almonds and went to bed. I read somewhere to do an apple test to figure out if you are actually hungry or head hungry. Think, "Would one crisp apple satisfy me completely right now?" If yes, have one crisp apple. If no, it's not stomach hunger so figure something else out instead of eating. I'm on track and deliberately didn't go out with my friends for drinks after the movie. First of all I had taken a pain pill for my shoulder so alcohol is a no-no. Secondly, my Saturday night outings have no doubt slowed my weight loss. Wine has calories, and I'm not losing as fast by having it every weekend. So last night I passed. Tomorrow is my weigh-in followed by a rigorous outdoor day of walking (about three hours) with two other friends. So close to Onederland. Maybe tomorrow!?

Yep! Just my luck!
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. Last year well in advance of my surgery date I grieved my "last fun" Thanksgiving. I always cook and host. This year will be different. I'll still cook and host but I'm going through a divorce. My daughter suggested we fill our home with "chosen" family. I'm doing that. I'm cooking turkey (this time I won't binge on the turkey skin) and all the regular fixin's. I always make a festive salad and several veggies so we're covered. It's not the same as your pre op regimen but maybe you can take this holiday off and celebrate it a few months later in a low key way. Just take good care of yourself whatever you do. This is for you and saving your life. Lots of folks here are pre or post surgery this Thanksgiving. Find them and support each other. You got this!!

November 2014 Lap Ban Surgery ????
My advice is tell fewer people than you think you want to right now. You can always tell more later. You can't untell once you tell. Also, remember why you are doing this surgery. It's for you. Some people get zero support or even antagonism from their spouses. When you are ready for this surgery, nobody will stand in your way. Be your own cheerleader and let us help. Face to face support group meetings at the hospital help too. I go to three different hospital support groups and to OA. Get what you need. Don't dwell on their head space.

food after adjustment
Keisha, don't they advise you how to handle the first few days after a fill? I ask because I'm always put on liquids for 48 hours and it's easy to get my calories in with soups and protein shakes for two days. Congrats on getting back into contact with your doc. I'd call the doctor's office before they leave for the weekend and get some guidance. Good luck and welcome back!

Not feeling the affects from 1st fill
@@lisacaron, you're doing so well with your band unfill and refill. I'm proud of and inspired by you!
-
Not feeling the affects from 1st fill
For now, yes that is true. It's a stage of recovery. You're not adjusted yet. You wouldn't take your car out of a service bay after the mechanic installed a part but before s/he connected and adjusted it and then expect the car to run efficiently. Same with your band. Until it's installed AND adjusted it isn't working optimally. You got a band. It needs adjustment. During those months you can either count your intake carefully or stagnate on your weight loss or gain. People have done all of these things. My surgeon wanted me to have "maximum weight loss" during my six weeks of liquids post op. It was for a running start, to build discipline, and for morale. It worked for me. By the time my fills started I was ready and had the habits in place. As my adjustments take place I keep the eating measured. Green zone for me now is easier. I'm still losing weight so I track my food. Others in the green zone don't. Personal choice. Sleevers and RNY patients have faster weight loss but have their own difficult post op eating regimens. WLS is not easy.

Yes I got the accessory. Haunted, you say? Hmmmm. Maybe! Pain lasted all night long but I could relieve it by lying in one certain position. Soooo tired today. Now that I'm walking around the pain is starting again but not as bad. Can't take my pain pill until I eat. TGIF.

My Life-Changing Story
Eli, you've inspired me today. You are so smart to have taken control in your twenties. My twenties, thirties and forties were wasted in obesity. I'm happier and healthier now at 53 than I was at your age. Keep on keeping it real. You're helping countless people you will never even meet.

3 weeks post op. Ate too much. Help
Three weeks post op is surgery recovery time. If you are in bad pain you should get medical attention. But if you are exceedingly uncomfortable because you ate too much I would not advise throwing up. The wrenching of your guts with vomiting can pull sutures out. I'm not a doctor. I don't know what you ate too much of. At three weeks post op I was halfway through my six weeks of liquids only. I was not allowed chewable food. Listen. Most of us screw up along the way. Get back on track, chalk it up to momentary weakness, forgive yourself and have a rock solid plan for tomorrow. Going with Soup and other liquids all day tomorrow might be a good idea to give your band a needed healing rest. You'll have to do that after every adjustment in the future anyway, so it's not a punishment. Just a recovery period. shake it off. Remember why you did this enormous life changing surgery. After half an hour, sip some warm tea and call it a night. Don't give up on yourself.
