Has anyone experienced low BP and HR after WLS?
JustWatchMe replied to jtickle's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
She's had episodes for about four years. Only six or seven times total. She's learned that Claritin raises her BP so during allergy season she's fine. She's passed out in church three times. I worry because she goes to an out of state college and next semester she will be studying abroad in Europe. But so far no incidents at school. Twice it occurred after she slept in (really really late) on a weekend. The doctor said you dehydrate when you sleep a long time. So she was given lots of tips, but you know teenagers. -

My doctor says that gastric banding is a waste of time.

My doc recommended sleeve but gladly banded me. He performs lots of bands. However, I haven't seen him since my first post op follow up. I always see the fill nurse. -

@@stephh, my daughter has that. Scared the hell out of us. She's 19 now. Doctor said she should get more sodium in her diet. She's six feet tall. I've read different articles about taller girls having it. -

Ok this post got me thinking so I went to look at my water enhancer drops and they have sucralose . Splenda. I'm a bit put off by what I'm reading about that ingredient. But it helps me drink my water! Aaggh. -

Just saw your post. In my desk I keep almonds and pecans and Quest bars and beef jerky. Not too helpful unless you have a grocery store or 7-11 near your work. Good luck! -

Question regarding restriction
JustWatchMe replied to Wendydarling19's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm sorry to hear this. I'm still finding my way but I think I've found my green zone. I will tell you that makes ALL the difference. Can you try to get a fill under fluoro soon? Like mentioned above, I had to learn to obey my band. I love pork chops. My band does not. I had to give them up. I tried to force it but the band won. As I'm closer to/at my green zone, my eating has had to be more thoughtful, slow and obedient to my band. I still want to wolf my first bites down when I'm hungry. This is disaster for me now. It wasn't that way two months ago. But I have more fill in my band and an unchewed bite of meat or chewing my second bite before the first one has even started its way down is a recipe for getting stuck. Again, this didn't happen two months ago. I rest my band twice a week with a single 500 calorie meal on Mondays and Thursdays. It's not for everyone but it broke some bad habits for me that I was doing. One thing I don't feel restriction on is salads and soups. I can eat those for an hour and not get filled to satiety. So I choose to have those rarely now. I like them but I want to lose weight and I want to feel the band tell me to stop. Please talk to your team about how and what you're eating before you give up on your band. Maybe it's just some habit changes that are needed. We worked too hard for this tool to toss it out unless it's the last resort. I haven't looked at Bandista's links yet but she always has good advice. So I'll check those out at home later. Good luck. You're worth success. I hope you find it! -
Sugar Free and Fat Free?
JustWatchMe replied to shantra's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ooh la la! I had no idea I was now eating like the French! I hate fat free anything and sugar free stuff too. One low fat item I surprisingly like is Trader Joe's Light Mild Cheddar cheese Sticks. For some reason they taste just fine to me. I usually have one as my Breakfast. As for anything else, like sour cream or half and half in my coffee, etc, no way. Real deal or why bother. I was never a huge diet soda drinker but I don't miss it a bit. -

Just a note. I told my fill nurse about 5:2 and she had not heard of it. But she said it sounds ok the way I'm doing it and if it's working for me keep going. I didn't get a fill this time because I think I'm in the green. I'll see her next on December 2. I agree with tmf and I will try to get in some extra walking on my fasting days. -
4 months after surgery........what is going on?
JustWatchMe replied to prolife2014's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
And try not to focus on pounds lost right now. It may stall, it may even go up a pound or two, but if you stick to the program, it will all come off, I promise. -
4 months after surgery........what is going on?
JustWatchMe replied to prolife2014's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Normal and congratulations! Great success so far. This is the hard part. Hanging in there andfollowing protocol when you are not feeling restriction. The proper fill levelWill get you there, but it takes several months to achieve that. You don't want to be too tight. Creep up on your green zone, keep following your team's instructions, and don't give up.I just had my first follow-up appointment that did not include a fill. It's because I think, think, that I am in the green zone. For me the green zone means that I am satisfied with much less food, sometimes get stuck if eating too fast or too big of bites, and a high-protein meal holds me without hunger for at least four hours.it's such a fine line between that and too tight. I don't want to be too tight. Anyway you are doing great and don't be discouraged. This is a process, and even though it's difficult now, you will look back at this time and be so happy that you stuck with it. -
ain't it great?

I'll definitely check out the fliers. My fill nurse had never heard of BariatricPal. I was shocked. -
My mom is supportive but can send me over an emotional edge with the wrong word. We've danced this dance since I was a teen. I love her. She loves me. But we drive each other CRAZY. I went through two miscarriages early in my marriage and I couldn't tell her until all of the doctor visits were behind me and I had time to process the events. Why? I simply couldn't deal with the added stress of her constant phone calls and worried crying and having to comfort her through it too. All that did happen, but after I had time to cry and heal. About a week after the losses. Moms are moms. They are human and needy and childish and have to be right. Just like me. Another mom. Lol.

Sharing unpretty feelings here often helps me reset. Thank you for keeping it real and valuing yourself enough to seek support here too. We will do this. Giving up on myself is no longer an option.

All normal. When I get a fill my NP has me on 48 hours of liquids afterwards. Until you reach the optimal fill level you'll still be hungry looking for more. That's where discipline comes in. Yes it's hard but it's temporary. In a few months the band will truly alleviate most non head hunger between meals. At optimal fill you are satisfied with much less and stay satisfied for at least four hours. You can't tell if the fill level is optimal until you've had it for a few weeks. For me that was three weeks. The body adjusts to the adjustment, so to speak. Now. Head hunger. Never cured by WLS. Anyone who claims it is, God bless em. That's where support and counseling or other means of self care come in. I am a comfort eater. I am learning to comfort myself without feeding myself. Feeling feelings instead of eating them. You've got this! Mind, body and spirit. All three demand our attention. Good luck and keep posting!
