Erin, I feel for you and would have done exactly as you-removal. Now your body will have a chance to heal and recooperate. There are many, on this board, with similiar circumstances. Keep posting and venting. Shawn

Should I trust a fill doctor whose punctured tubing in the past?
CCBSTX replied to 498376's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
"When I went in for my fill, the surgeon had me lie on the table with a pillow under the small of my back, he felt for my port, located it and injected the saline, simple. If they cant feel it then they should do it under Xray, simple." My surgeon does the same as Jachut. I wouldn't do a fill with him. If he can't feel it, then he shouldn't do it.... Shawn -
Got the $, going for consult, any advice? Dr. Spivak, TX
CCBSTX replied to mini_me's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Dr. Spivak is a great choice! Congrats!! Write down any questions that you have ahead of time. This would be a terrific place to keep track of your progress. Some even keep journals. Shawn -
bandayed, I am glad you asked the question! Me too! I am in the same predicament as you. I've read that it can be from the stress of surgery some 3-4 months after, to weight loss (lack of protein). It seems that when hair follicles are shocked (from surgery) they go into the resting phase. Those are the ones that are falling out. My surgeon said and also what I read, that this is temporary. For me it's been about a month. I am constantly running my fingers through my hair and shedding about 10-15 hairs every hour it seems.... Shawn

Good luck with your research! I've heard of prices anywhere from 10,500-20,000k, depending on where and which surgeon. Some go to Mexico, as their prices are cheaper. Which ever direction you go, make sure you have a surgeon that gives good aftercare. The lapband takes more aftercare than the other WL surgeries (fill/unfills). Hence, some folks get their surgery and have difficulty getting their fills locally. Shawn

I suppose anything is possible with the band and fills! If you are worried and your gut says "something fills weird," then you may want to get tested for erosion. Just a thought for peace of mind. Shawn

Sending good vibes and hugs! Shawn

Good for you! I can't wait to be overweight like you!!!! Shawn

Be sure to do your research from reliable sources! You will hear HORROR stories about any surgery, just ask enough folks. Yes, there are complications with the lapband. Yes, you will get vomiting if you overeat or eat too fast...that is behavior modification and most likely you will do anything to not do that again. Most bandsters have this happen at least once!!! So 90% complications...Look for the serious complications-slippage and erosion. Make sure you can follow up after surgery. Surgery is one part, the other part is maintaining your fills and eating properly. Shawn

BSB1224 I agree with Lyndalafe! Get it at least a week to see if you open up a bit. If not get a bit removed. As you know, from above that I was feeling just like you. I gave it 2 weeks and had a bit removed-ahhhhh relief!

Thanks for the comments! It's nice to come back, so soon, and find imput... Well, I've decided keep my appt. for a slight unfill (.2). Liquids are fine, thank goodness. Nana, you have a right to be scared on that too-tight episode! I am so glad that you came back to surgeons office in time. I am losing 1-2 pounds a week, like I was before my second fill. What is happening is instead of eating a well rounded bandster diet, I am reverting back to liquids and mushies. I've always told myself that this is a lifestyle change. I am not willing to do the liquid/mushy thing long term. Feeling bad, after 2 bites of food, is not a lifestyle that I want to continue!!! When I called for my appt, the nurse said that sometimes it doesn't take much of a fill to put you over the edge. I should have known better, as I was tight enough when I showed, for my last appt. I didn't want to "kick myself" if I ended up needing another fill in a week or two. So, my surgeon and I agreed to a conservative fill! Funny, two weeks later I am "kicking myself" for having the conservative fill in the first place!!! Shawn

Welcome! Read, read, read and ask, ask, ask! Shawn

Yes! I think most of us have issues with the band depending upon the time of day, time of month, or type of food. You are right, chocolate and junk slide right through that band!!!!! I've kept the junk out of the house and if I am tempted look at calories and nutrition. I might still have it, but it takes more work!! Be sure to exercise, that will help you lose and boost your metabolism..Shawn

Does he want you to lose weight, shrink your liver, or is this a suggestion? Either way, most of us have had the "last meal" syndrome. You can eat most foods when your banded (not quantity). Take a deep breath and try again. Limit snacking...that helped me lose a few pounds pre-op...Shawn

question for those not telling anyone at work
CCBSTX replied to sleepyjean's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I figure I'd tell who I wanted, which wasn't many! Just try to make many appts the same day. Then state you have some medical stuff going on and may need some testing done. If they ask "why" just say no-big-deal just some "girl stuff (you fill in blank)" -
My husband and I use Crest Whitestrips! They work very well. Put it this way...my husband had a cap on his front tooth (20 years old). He ended up replacing it recently. He had to because his capped tooth looked yellow compared to his others (cap tooth doesn't whiten).
