  1. Hello! I was just sleeved on Sept 8th. So far it hasn't been bad at all. It just feels like I have done to many sit-ups. My right side is the most sore. But, they said that is where they pulled part of my stomach out. My only complaint, I wake up in the middle of the night coughing because it seems like Fluid is coming up and I might throw up, but I don't. I'm sleeping very well elevated. My Doctor also repaired a large hiatal hernia as well. Swallowing is becoming easier. I am having to burp myself by patting the center of my chest with my hand. Just like how you burp a baby, but on my chest. I'm slowly being able to burp on my own. My hubby says that I burp in my sleep constantly. Lol! Has anyone else experienced this coughing with a feeling of fluid coming up? It isn't heart burn. I definitely know what that feels like. This is not painful, just scares me a bit because I don't want to choke on it. Thanks you! Jodi

    Coughing at night....

Good to know. I'm going to try not eating 2 hours before bed and continue to sleep in an upright position. At least this isn't the painful reflux, like I am accustomed to. Overall I'm doing really well. The recovery has been pretty smooth sailing so far. I'm excited for what lies ahead!
  3. September 8th is almost here!!! Eeeeeekkkkk!!! We are dropping the kids at Grandma & Grandpa's, the 2 dogs at a kennel and heading over the passes tomorrow. I'm not really even nervous yet. Just more excited, so far. There might be a tad touch of anxiety. I clean when I get anxious and well, my house is spotless. After deciding on the Sleeve 5 years ago, then waiting for insurance to add it, doing the 6 month diet, the 2 week pre-op low carb diet, the BIG day is finally just about here! I'm anxious to get the old me back, be happy & healthy and feel confident about myself again! Let's do this!!!

    Question!

On my supervised diet, I lost 13 lbs. My BMI was 38.3 beginning. When my paperwork was submitted, my BMI was 36.6. I do have a few comorbidities as well. Currently, I am on the last few days of a 2 week low carb diet and my BMI is now 34.8. Insurance approved everything really quickly. Everything was very well documented to the liking of insurance from my primary care doctor and my nutritionist. Surgery for my sleeve is scheduled on this coming Monday the 8th!!! Can't wait!!! Insurance basically wants to make sure that you are prepared for what is ahead and that you are completely dedicated to making changes. You cannot gain a single pound during this time either. At least with my insurance, anyway. We have Highmark BCBS. Good luck to you! You can do it!!!
  7. Three babies later and almost 100 lbs later..... 1. Health problems beginning to appear. 2. My kids miss out on activities with me because I am uncomfortable with myself or physically uncomfortable. 3. I hate that I avoid being in pictures. Photos are priceless, especially of yourself and your family. 4. I could not do all the activities that I used to love like run, hike, hunting, swimming. 5. I began avoiding people because I was embarrassed that I let myself go this far. 6. I never wanted to step foot in a swimsuit, even if it was Great Wolf Lodge or Silverwood. 7. I feel it holds me back with my photography business at times. I'm anxious to find me again, be healthy, happy, confident and successful!!!
  8. I have read that deciding if you are able to take your Water pill after surgery, can go either way depending on the individual. Currently, I take it for hypertension & severe water retention (pitting edema). My bariatric doctor said not to take it for a week so I don't get dehydrated. But, I retain A LOT of Fluid without it. 8-10 lbs of it to be exact. I really don't think that the doc knows how intense & yucky feeling my water retention gets. So, I am curios if anyone else has had to deal with this yet? If so, what were you told? What did you do? I will be calling my regular primary care doctor on Monday to see what she says about it as well.
  9. Thank you for all your replies! I know that as my weight goes down the retention will decrease. I cannot wait for that time to come! I still have mild pitting edema with my Water pill and it is controlling my blood pressure. The doctor said to take all my other meds, but not the water pill. He felt it would leave me dehydrated post-op. But, 2 years ago I began not filtering out Fluid as efficiently as a side effect of taking a super strong antibiotic. I was told this will eventually go back to normal. Ugh!

Oh Lord Have Mercy! I AM APROVED!

Thank you ladies! Auntjanny~ That is awesome news!!! I'm excited for you too! The only reason that I didn't get a date yet, I called insurance to find out. It is so hard to be patient. But, now I have to wait for the doctor's office to call me back to set up everything. Waiting isn't my strong point. Ha ha!

    Freaking out about hairloss

I have really fine & thin hair as well. I am dreading the hair loss after surgery. Some words of advice, don't have extensions put in and don't use the clip in extensions. Both will cause hair loss, especially with fine & thin hair. Halo Hair is awesome!!! I have used it for a few years now. Nobody can tell at all. It does not cause any damage at all and is super easy to use. You can color & cut it to your liking too. Then if you have severe thinning on top, top pieces are available by other brands.

    Stories!

I've only told my hubby and my mom. My hubby's family is gossip central and incredibly opinionated. It is awful. The whole town would know if we told them. I've been a stay at home mom for almost 10 years and have had my own business for 3 years. I chose to keep my decision private for now. My fear was the endless opinions and gossip. I made this choice for myself about 5 years ago. Now I am completely ready. When the time comes, due to rapid weight loss, I will probably have to say something. I'll deal with it then. At that point it will be a little late for opinions and unsupportive comments. But, until then, I really like the positive support I have from my hubby & mom. I've made it through my 6 month diet, just got approved a few days ago by ins and now waiting to get it all scheduled. I am so excited!!!!

    Do you tell people?

After going through a 6 month supervised diet and just getting approved a few days ago, I've still only told my hubby and my mom. My hubby's family is very opinionated and gossips to the ends of the earth. So much so that his sister's nickname is Mouth. Lol! At this point, I just want positive support. I don't want to hear someone else's opinions about if I should or shouldn't have the sleeve done. I've made up my own mind over 5 years ago. I've made this choice. I'm ready to change me. There will more than likely come a day when I have to say something. But, that bridge will be crossed when I get there. For now, it is being kept private.

    Wanted: September Sleevers!

Hello! I'm from Washington State. I began this journey March 9th. Everything was submitted a few days ago. Just waiting for a response from insurance now. It is looking like my sleeve will be done in September. But, I will find out more details and get an actual date hopefully next week. Eeeek!!! I am so excited!!!
  21. All my required appointments complete! My 6 month medically supervised diet is complete with 10 lbs lost! Everything was submitted today! Yep, I am just a little excited!!! Now just waiting to hear on approval sometime next week.
  22. S(he) be(lie)ve(d)

Everything was submitted to Insurance today!

Oh my gosh! That is awful! I hope everything gets resolved for you quickly. It is so hard to wait. I am thankful that my insurance reviews stuff like this quickly.

Everything was submitted to Insurance today!

Thank you ladies!!! Lexie~ When I first began looking at this site over 6 months ago, I thought the same thing too. It is a big accomplishment to make it through the 6 month supervised diet, change habits, adopt new ones and prepare as much as possible. Might as well make it worth my time, right? I feel really prepared and ready to finally do this. Now that all of the requirements are checked off, I am so excited for what is ahead of me in the next year!!! I can't wait!!! Good luck to you too! I hope everything goes great for you!
  24. Thanks everyone! We are leaving on vacation tomorrow for a week for some beach, sun and R & R. As I was packing up stuff, I was doing a little mental party knowing this will be the last year where I hate putting on a swimsuit (I do it to be able to participate with my kiddos) and next summer I will be a healthier me. Much like the old me about 14 years ago. At least our summers always seem to fly by! I can't wait to get the approval back from insurance within a couple weeks! Eeeeeek!!!!! So excited!!!!
