1. Hi, I'm new to this as well my Gastric Bypass surgery is scheduled for June 16 with Doctor Lopez wife (Jacqueline Osuna) I'm doing as much research possible can not really find anything or any one else having expire fence with either one.

Hi Mayra, I wrote a bit more about my experience on another post you sent me; but, just wanted to say here that I had VSG surgery in Tijuana with Dr. Osuna, Dr. Lopez's wife. Everything went fine, I had no pre-existing conditions or concerns (weighed 200 at 5'5"). The hospital and hotel were also problem free experiences with good hospital care. Surgery date March 11, 2014.

  2. Hi March sleevers! Had my surgery Monday and leaving for home tomorrow yay! Feel really good today very little pain. We had an awesome outing today. Raul drove us to the markets. Had a blast walking around and buying touristy things for the kids. He also drove us around the slummy side and the rich side of town. Then had Soup with my new friends I made in the marriott restaurant. Was a lovely day and I met some incredible people this week. What an amazing experience. I'm much stronger than I thought and this has inspired me to change other things in my life. My mother also came with me and she was incredibly against the surgery but she gets it now because she lived through it with me. We really bonded.

Some quick advice/info for those about to go and going to Mi Doctor Hospital in Tijuana:

You will have 5 incisions not 1 with Dr Lopez. I was under the impression this would be a 1 incision surgery from the Mexico bariatric center website.

If you have small veins expect to be poked many times before they can find a good vein. I have tiny veins and was poked 5 times each time (had 2 diff IVs because one went bad after first night) before they got one.

The hospital rooms are very noisy! You hear car horns beeping day and night. The drivers in Mexico use their horns like crazy. Bring earplugs.

The hospital rooms are also bright even when all lights are off. The blinds in my room didn't cover the full window. Bring a sleep mask. I bought one and then forgot it at home. So bummed!

Expect a lot of waiting. When they say 5 minutes it means 30. When they say an hour it means 2 hours. It was annoying as hell at first but I got used to it.

Bring slippers or warm socks as hospital doesn't provide them.

The first 24 hours are hard but it gets so much better every day. Just hang in there. It's so worth it and you will be amazed at how fast you heel.

The drain is awful. It's so annoying and Dr Lopez insists on keeping it in for 4 days which SUCKS. I was chatting with Dr Cabrera patients and they got theirs removed after 2 days. Jealous! It's better safe than sorry but lord that drain was so uncomfortable. Also, I read horror stories of how painful it is having the drain removed but I'm happy to report it was literally 3 seconds and I felt some pressure and then it was done. No pain. So easy!

I used my heating pad to warm up as the hospital was freezing the first day when we arrived at 7:30am. It wasn't until hours later a nurse told me I actually had a heater in the room.

The hotel is awesome! Not anything fancy but comfy. Staff is so friendly. The beds and pillows are the best. And there are a few English channels on with shows on like 2 and a half men, Big Bang theory, and CSI.

Can't think of anything else for now. Just know that you will be okay and this is an amazing journey you are about to embark on! I'm so excited for all of you!!! Yaaaayyyyyy!!!!

Wow! I needed to hear this about now!!! Thank you!!!

  3.
I had very extensive plastics Oct 14 2013 by Dr Sauceda in Mexico - 4.5 months ago. Scar maturity varies alot by individual - genetics etc. I did use silicone strips but have stopped recently since they make me crazy... I am now using massage and lotions including mederma. I can't show the breast lift ones but they are essentially invisible since I only had the lollipop incision, no scarring under the breast.

This photo is in a cocktail dress with no Spanx or other flattening clothing... wow what a difference

One of these days I will get around to updated bikini pics to compare to my preop ones ...

    Congratulations!

  4. I wish I knew that I would have diarrhea for the whole time since surgery because my gall bladder was dysfunctional and that I would still have it even after gall bladder removal .. Still dealing with this but would have done it anyway.

I wish I knew that I have a deformity that makes my hiatus hernia impossible to repair 100% and that I will be on the lowest dose of nexium forever .. But I would have done it anyway.

I wish I knew how much better I would look and feel just 7 months out because I would have done it sooner.

I wish I knew how awesome running and riding my bike would be after losing this weight, I would have done it sooner.

I researched the hell out of this surgery and went into it with my eyes wide open and I don't regret a thing. I haven't had any deal breakers. If I didn't lose any more weight in my life I would still be over the moon.

Mistysj, thank you for this! My surgery date is March 11.

  5.
I'm having a revision from the band to the sleeve with Dr. Garcia (Ready 4A Change) on March 8th at Florence Hospital. I'm super excited and trying to stay as positive as possible. I like the fact that there will be four different doctors in the operating room at the same time. I feel confident about my decision and just pray that everything goes as smooth as possible. Good luck to everyone with your personal experience and look forward to chatting with you on this site!

Thank you Breathless! Hard to believe that I will be in Mexico in 10 days! I have cataract surgery on the 5th (there's no real healing time for that), also my daughters baby shower and baby dedication this weekend ... so hopefully these things will help for the time to pass.

  6.
Hi, I am in Mesa AZ and also going to Tijuana to the Obesity Control Center to Dr. Ariel Ortiz. My pre-Op diet has been 15 days of Protein Shakes three times a day and Clear Liquids and green vegetables or salad. I have lost 10 pounds and my surgery is scheduled for this Wednesday the 26th. Good luck and stay in touch. Pat

Patsypatrice, I hope you are doing well. I am from BC, Canada, and have a home about 45 minutes from you in San Tan Valley. One day to be my winter retirement home and by then, 6 years away, I intend to be fit and healthy and active! I have done several half marathons, but, the weight comes on when I'm not in training. But not for long! My surgery date is March 11 in Tijuana.

  7. How is everyone handling the nerves? I was having a full blown anxiety attack on Tuesday when he gave me my date of next week. In fact my blood pressure was up, and when the surgeon listened to my heart he commented on how fast it was going. Then I made the mistake of going straight to the lab to get my bloodwork done and of course my WBC was high! I guess mental stress can raise it.

Anyway, main point is that I am feeling much more at peace. I am soo ready for Wednesday. Just wish it would get here already so that it can be done and over with!

Thinking of you! So glad you have some peace now. I can totally understand! We are holistic individuals ... When one part is out of wack it impacts the whole.

I am doing a bit better after finding one post on here from someone who had a positive experience with my surgeon at same hospital in Tijuana. Phew!

  8. Pre-op, I'm on nothing but Protein Shakes, broth, Water, and sf popsicles. My doctor recommends Unjury, which I have a bunch of. Love the chocolate, as do my kids. It has 20g Protein, 100 calories and 4 carbs. I also use Syntrax Nectar Cappucino protein powder a couple of times a day. It has a great flavor, no carbs, 90 calories, 23 g protein, and I have that in the morning now instead of my coffee with milk and flavored Creamer.< /p>

I hope is able to find some decent tasting high protein, Lo or no carb flavours to have following my Clear Liquids phase. Is it possible to add any of this protein powder to water, even on clear liquids phase, post op?

  9. I am getting vertical sleeve on March 11th. What are each of you doing to prepare. There is so much to do before hand. I am getting overwhelmed on what to do first.

I'm the 11th too! I'm having a band to sleeve revision. I'm overwhelmed too. I've been making a list on essentials we will need and buying them here and there. Also I'm kind if addicted to this site and it's really helping me be better mentally prepared.

    Hooray for us March patients!

Just found this site! Yay! Another March 11 surgery ... Dr. Osuna, Tijuana
