  1. J Boyd 2014 - You have sooooo much to look forward to. I never imagined meeting any of the goals you've listed but I have in less than 3 months. I was sleeved on March 19 and have lost 65 lbs so far. Hopefully that gives you a little sneak peak of what to expect. Best of luck to you on your journey! !

    Weight gain

I got married October 2013 and the year leading up to it was so stressful. I think that had a LOT to do with my 30lb weight gain. I had not been sleeved until after the wedding, but just wanted to share with you that I truly think the stress did it to me. I know you probably dont have much extra time to exercise and workout because you are probably super busy. My suggetion to you is to try to do a liquid diet for 3 or 4 days to restrict your stomach some and then do low/no carb for the time remaining up until your wedding. I tried that before and was able to drop 40lbs in about 2-3 months (before my sleeve). I would have fruit for Breakfast and then just eat meat and veggies the rest of the day. I'm not sure how much time you have until your wedding, but best of luck to you and congrats!
  3. I have federal BCBS and my insurance did the same thing! They covered 100% minus the $250 hospital copayment. I love them!!!!!!
  4. i was miserable for the first 3 or 4 days, but i was almost back to nomal within 2 weeks. Maye sure you stay hydrated and honestly walking around and moving more does help you bounce back quicker. Everyday should get slightly better than the one before. I'm sure that in a few days you will notice a big difference in the way you feel.

    a streched stomach pouch?

Hello! I had my surgery 5 days before you and I know EXACTLY how you feel. No worries, you didnt stretch your stomach and you WILL begin to lose weight again VERY soon. My first two weeks on moist foods was the worst becasue i lost only about 3 pounds in two weeks. Then all of a sudden last week i saw a HUGE weightloss of 5 lbs in one week. I'm gradually eating more than i was the first two weeks and I feel like it may be possible that my body was just in a "starvation" mode and actually eating more may be causing me to lose weight. Make sure you excercise too. I go to the gym 3-4 times a week and it seems to be speeding up my progress as well. Your stall will be over soon so hang in there:)
  8. hello everyone. I am 1 day post op and feeling great. I must admit when I woke up from surgery I initially began to second guess my decision to be sleeved. However, by the end of the night I felt like it was the best decision I have ever made. I passed my swallow test this morning with no issues and the pain meds are helping tremendously. Looking forward to heading home tomorrow morning will keep you updated.

    will my story ever stop?

Irene, I'm so sorry to hear about your experience. I'm glad that you are still able to be so positive and still be optimistic about the future. You have been through a lot and you have been strong enough to overcome it. Thank you for sharing your story. Hang in there and best of luck to you! Moni
  10. Hello, I've heard of both a 14 and 7 day pre op liquid diet, but never 2 days. My doctor told me that the purpose of the diet is to allow your liver to shrink so that your stomach will be more visible and easier to get to during the surgery. My diet is 7 days and i'm on day 3. If 2 days is enough for your liver to shrink then go for it! Best of luck to you on your journey:)
  11. Hi everyone, My surgery is scheduled for next Wednesday and I started my 7 day liquid diet yesterday. I went to bed with no energy last night and woke up with the biggest headache. I feel so nauseous and weak. Anybody else experiencing this? Does it get better??

    Liquid diet

Hello! I just started my liquid today and it wasnt as bad as i expected. I guess the key is to stay busy without burning TOO many calories so you dont get hungry lol. Today i had Greek yogurt, Jello, chicken broth, and a Protein shake. My diet allows for decaf coffe, but not sure what you can put in it. I'm also allowed to have sugar free popsicles which i'm looking forward too tonight:) I heard day 3 is the hurdle where things start to get better. Just stay focused and remember why you are doing it!!! Best of luck!
  14. Good morning everyone!!! I just received a phone call today from my doctors office saying that my insurance has approved my sleeve surgery. I’m so relieved. My doctors office submitted my info to my insurance (BCBS Federal Virginia) on Wednesday, February 26th. The insurance received the documents on Thursday, February 27th. I called the insurance on Monday, March 3rd to see if they had reached a decision and they said they were still working on it. They contacted my doctors office on Wednesday, March 4th and it was approved that fast! It took a total of 5 business days which is excellent! Best of luck to anyone out there anxiously waiting on their insurance approval. I start my liquid diet on March 12th and my surgery is March 19th. Wish me luck fellow sleevers!
  15. During my first consultation with the surgeon, he asked me a bunch of questions regarding my past efforts with trying to lose weight. He asked about my support system, my reasons for wanting the surgery, and he asked my ideal weight. We also discussed my goal weight based on my body type. The bulk of the session was the opportunity for me to ask questions. Here are some of the things i asked the doctor that may be good to bring up. 1. How soon after the surgery would I be able to start trying to get pregnant? 2. What are the risks/complications and the chances of them occurring? 3. What are the stages of the approval process and what classes/doctors appointments will i need for approval? 4. What is the average amount of weight a person my size would lose in 6 months after the surgery? 5. Why is gastric sleeve better/worse than other procedures...lap band/gastric bypass/etc? 6. What is the recommended goal weight that I should ultimately reach based on my body type? 7. What exactly happens during the procedure and how long will it last? 8. How many years experience does the surgeon have and how many patients has he lost during the operation and why? (this is a pretty hard question to ask, but i did so that i would at least know. My doctor has lost 2 patients but they were almost 500 pounds, high risk, and had multiple commorbidies and were going to die if they did not have the surgery). Since I am a low risk patient, he assured me that he had done thousands of surgeries and that i would be fine. Good luck to you!!
  16. Hi everyone!! Today was the BIG day I've been waiting for since I started my gastric sleeve journey in October. I almost shed a tear today when my doctor's secretary called me to schedule my surgery date. I will be sleeved on 3/19/2014. The doctor says I'm only required to do a 1 week pre-op liquid diet. Any advice anybody has to help me stay on track? Any favorite pre-op diet foods/drinks you recommend??

    Tomorrow is the day!

    Best of luck to you!!!!
  18. Sometimes you have to do something you've never done before to get to where you want to be. It's definitely scary and I'm sure most of us are/were terrified at that last moment before the operation. Just remember why you are doing it and maintain your focus. You will wake up and your new life will begin. Something you've been wishing for for a long time is about to come true. Be proud of your journey and stay focused. Celebrate!!!! You'll be fine:)
  19. I agree. I dont understand why some people have different diets. It seems a little extreme to have a 14 day diet. My surgeon has me on a 7 day liquid diet. Not sure why it varies, but worries me a little.

What are some of your goals?

One of my friends who has recently been sleeved told me to make a list of my goals. Here are some of the things I cant wait to do.... 1. Confidently wear a bathing suit in public...preferably a tankini. 2. Ride a go cart 3. Not have to turn sideways to pass thru the gate at the metro station 4. Wear a pair of low rise jeans 5. Wear a pair of high top uggs and have them come ALL the way up my legs. 6. Wake up without my feet aching. 7. Comfortably ride on a roller coaster with my husband. 8. Proudly post full body shots on facebook and instagram instead of just face shots. 9. Wear a pair of denim shorts in the summer...I always wear capris because i hate my legs! Hope this helps...
