I had surgery last Monday by Dr. Aceves. He was referred to me by a co-worker. I am very happy now with how much they do for you. They leave no stone unturned in making sure you have every ounce of knowledge needed.
I even emailed Nina having cold feet and almost backing out just days before. Once in there care you feel secure. I am back to work today and doing good.
I would refer Dr. Aceves and team to anybody who wants to go to Mexico and self pay.
p.s. I have bad anxiety and they kept me very calm.

Hey azinuit1, I'm having surgery in Mexicali March 20 with Dr Aceves. I'm not worried at all about Mexico - some of the best medical care I've ever received was in the Philippines and Panama.
I can SO relate to you because I did crossfit for a year while following strict Paleo nutrition, and never got below 263 lbs! I was the strongest female at my gym and I did lose some inches but never got below size 20 and that is soooo frustrating! I'm looking forward to feeling like an athlete again, being able to do all the activities that are so uncomfortable now. I live on an amazingly beautiful island surrounded by crystal clear 85 degree Water and yet my paddleboard is collecting dust. Not for much longer though!!
Best of luck with your surgery!!

Make sure to ask for early boarding so you can get the right seat. They will allow early boarding for medical usually no questions asked. Every time I have flown I ask for early boarding because being obese and flying is no fun! It takes the stress of finding the right seat away. Good luck!

BEYOND well worth it. Keep in mind that while the fee for Aceves is more, it includes a private up scale mexican hospital. Also I haven't had insurance since way before surgery, but I followed all instruction to a tee and heeled perfectly. Good luck with you're decision, and if you have any question feel free to ask

I only took a short flight to another part of Europe but one thing my surgeon did insist on is heparin injections for 2 weeks post op. They were easy to do myself- just grab a bit of fat on the tummy and go. The injection was small and felt just like a sting. Perhaps you can ask your surgeon about this.

    Hi Bonniedog,
I had one long haul flight followed by a shorter one the next day with no problems. It's important to stay hydrated, so drink plenty of Water. You can also wear the compression stockings you will get for surgery during your flight. And walk around during the flight as best you can. I paid a little more$$ to fly executive class on the return journey and the extra space was well worth it. Blood clots (DVT's) take time to develop, and not likely to cause problems until after the flight. Watch out for post flight pain, swelling or redness in your legs. They are a frequent medical problem, so your island should have the means to treat it. Let your surgeon know if you have had clots before or been on blood thinners. You have to get home somehow--so don't let the flight discourage you. Good luck!

Great advice Sleeveless in Seattle! I did just that and made my decision this morning (I'm 18 hrs ahead of PST so it's just my morning now).
I'm scheduled with Dr. Aceves in Mexicali on March 20. Woo hoo! Never thought I'd be excited to have my guts ripped out but I am! Many years ago I worked in Calexico and think it'll be kind of cathartic to return to the place where I was last at my kick-butt fighting weight.
