    Post Op March 2014

I am also having a hard time eating and I am 3 weeks out. I am really concerned about the energy levels cause I get tired pretty quickly and I am worried how I will function at work. I have lost 24 lbs and still have another 50-60 to lose. Also I am always thirsty.

    March 2014 Losers

I had my surgery on March 31st. So far I have lost 24lbs. I was 210 pre op, before liquid diet and now I am 186. I am on a puréed diet currently and will be introducing soft foods next week. At this time I barely have an appetite and have to sometimes force myself to have protein shakes. Is anyone struggling with their appetite? I have my vitamins daily no matter what...also I still feel the pain internally which is bearable but any idea how long it will take for the internal staples to heal completely? Thnks in advance for the info.
  3. Hello I also had my surgery on March 31. I am getting better day by day but I do not have the same amount of energy like I used to before surgery. Also I don't have much of an appetite either. Now I am on puréed diet where I still consume more of my proteins from my shakes. How are you doing?

    Returning To Work

My doctor advised best to take a month off if you can but if you can not then 2 weeks is the best. Now that I have done my surgery I personally think for me a month of recovery is a must. Everyone is different..in my case I had lay offs and when I got laid off, I had my surgery on march 31, 10 days after the last day of my work and now I am aiming to join may 5. So it's upto the individuals. Keep in mind internally we have staples that take 6-8 weeks to heal and also after surgery you have to build your stamina to be able to walk and have energy. 10 days after surgery is all liquid and then puréed and then soft foods and then so and so forth. I am on my puréed diet now. Your internally healing is very important cause you don't want to deal with any gastric leakage. Also you cannot push, push, carry etc anything and do anything strenuous. All this also affects your mind cause you do get tired a lot quicker after surgery than before. It's really upto you.

    I'm in the medical field.

So if this forum or platform is not for WLS then what is it set up for? What are people ranting about then? It's in relevance to WLS not where my dog ate my homework and let me rant about it. That maybe can be done on FB. This platform is set up for people who are going through major life changes that are in relevance to WLS not about oh I get sick of someone calling themselves a nurse but they are not...come on get real!

    Pre-op question

Please whatever you do do not cheat. It's important for you to stay on your liquid diet. When we are over weight, our liver becomes fat and being on the liquid diet it defats the liver which makes it easier to operate. If you cheat and don't lose the weight and when the surgeon sees inside that your liver is still fat, they will close you up and send you home. Yes it's tough to do the liquid diet but it's doable. You can do it. Stay strong and you have 7 more days...I promise you time will go by fast. Good luck and God bless!

Btw it's only illegal where you are signing things as someone else when you are not and I did my BSN at New York University and getting my MSN there also. So there...now can we stay focused on relevant stuff like WLS.

I thought this forum is for WLS rants...what does this topic have to do with RNs, BSNs or CNAs or MAs...let's stick to topics that are relevant.
  11. It's a choice that you would have to make that works best for you. I was going for the sleeve and decided to go for RNY because I wanted to get rid of acid reflex and not have to deal with diabetes or high blood pressure or sleep apnea. My surgeon sat down and told me the differences and he said for long run RNY is a better way to go than sleeve. And I also didn't want to revise anything later on and wanted to do what's right for me. As far as being on anti-depressants, I stopped taking them the day I came home from my surgery. Typically I would have spoken to the psych and decrease the dosage and slowly get rid of it completely. But of course I didn't do that and just stopped them on my own. Do I feel depressed? Nope I don't. But I do still get anxious...so next week is my first follow up after my surgery which has been 10 days now and I will speak to them about my anxiety. Either way I think you can only make the best decision for yourself and what works best for you. Being scared of the surgery was the last thing on my mind cause I am an RN and I am ok with surgeries. Best of luck and I know you will make the right decision for yourself.

    Tomorrow is it!

I had mine exactly a week ago. And I was not scared or nervous but then again I am also a registered nurse. My family was scared and nervous but I was like, yes please go ahead surgeon cause I can't wait. But everyone is different and I can understand your fear and being anxious but I promise you that you will be fine and will say the same I am glad I did this. So be brave, pray and you will do just fine, I promise. I will keep you and all the pals here who are going through this process in my prays. God bless.
  13. Yes I am struggling with my meds big time so all I have are my vitamins that are chewable and I have stopped my bp and anxiety meds. I can't be bothered to chopped them and mix it with applesauce. How are your hunger levels? All I have been dreaming about is food. But I just tell my head and pouch to shut up. Best I can do until I am cleared for my puréed foods. I can't wait to have eggs and yogurt.

    April 2014 pre-op group

So I was scheduled for April 26th and just yesterday, I lost my job. Luckily I have my insurance until end of this month and then Cobra will kick in April 1st, so I called my surgeon office and got my date bumped up to March 31st. Today has been my first day on the liquid diet and boy I am still hungry..just had 4 Protein shakes all day and lots of Water. But I know I am going to keep at it...
