  1. I had my sleeve and hernia repair on April 15th. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I still had problems with the hernia repair at 2 1/2 months out. I started to feel half way normal by 3 months. My dr compared the hernia repair to a cut on your hand. While it is trying to heal, every time you move your hand, it opens the cut back up so it will take longer to heal. He said every time i would eat our drink anything, it was aggravating the hernia repair. BUT, eventually it does get better. It just really stinks for the first couple of months. The hernia gave me a lot more problems than my actual sleeve. 4 1/2 months out, I'm doing great. Down 74lbs from my surgery weight of 274. Hang in there guys!

  2. At first I didn't want to tell people specifically at work because I didn't want them to react negatively for me taking off the time away from work for what they would see as "elective" or "cosmetic" even. Since then, I have not told a lot of people about my surgery, but others I have. It is kind of a case-by-case basis. I have told the majority of my close friends and family, but not my co-workers and acquaintances. I view it as any other medical procedure, because it is just that, a medical procedure. I don't feel the need to make a blanket announcement about it. I just kind of view it as personal....if I choose to share it then, fine.

But in reality, while the surgery is an amazing tool, it is not what makes me choose the right kinds of food to put in my mouth, and it does not make me get out of bed every morning to run at 5:30, or it doesn't make me go to cross training while my family is still in bed sleeping on a weekend. When people want to know how I've lost weight, yes, surgery is a huge part of it, but in reality, it's so much more than that. So I can answer them honestly without disclosing my medical history should I choose to take that approach by telling them that I am eating a high Protein low carb diet, completely changed my lifestyle, and started regularly exercising.

I couldn't have said it any better!!

  3. Hope you are feeling better Sweetie. Tomorrow I will be 5 Weeks out. Last week wad the first time I felt half way normal. I had a hernia fixed at the same time as my sleeve and it had been a battle with it. Like you, I couldn't eat or drink for Weeks. The Dr says it will still take time to heal, but I started on actual food this weekend- lean ground beef and chicken. I feel 10x better. I'm still not getting in all my Water so that's my next step. I promise it does get better. It took me awhile to believe that, but it does. Just push threw and in a few Weeks it will be all better. :) Good luck!

  4. I had my surgery on the 15th. Went in at 5:30am and didn't get to go home until 6:30pm on Thursday. I was only supposed to spend one night, but my upper gi the next morning showed something so the Dr wanted to wait. I had to do a CT scan that afternoon and then xrays Thursday morning just to make sure nothing was wrong. Talk about wondering what I did to my self. I thought what on earth am I doing sitting in this stupid hospital cause now I can't take it back. Lol. I was really nauseous the whole time in the hospital. Yesterday went pretty well at home. Got my 64 oz of liquid, but couldn't stomach any Protein. Today I have been more nauseous and have almost drank 2 bottles of Water. I have to make myself do that. I would love to have a cheeseburger or chickfila right now (in my head), because the actual thought of eating something makes me want to puke. I did get on the scales a minute ago. After 3 whole days of iv fluids being pumped thru me, I'm back down to my weight the morning of surgery. I'm glad I took off 3 weeks from work. It looks like I'm going to need it.

  5. Ughhhhh I don't want not another Protein Shake. For the last month or so I have swapped my breakfast for a Protein shake and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm on day 5 of my pre-op liquid diet and I have had it i don't want not another one. I absolutely loved Chike and now I don't want Chike I don't want Premier Protein just ughhhh...what concerns me is I have to drink them post-op as well what the heck??? Have anyone else absolutely found a couple Protein Shakes they LOVE then find them undrinkable?I'm sitting at my desk looking at this shaker cup thinking not another one ughh!

I am so afraid of getting burnt out on protein shakes that for post-op I bought the Unjury unflavored powder to mix in with my SF kool-aid or crystal lite. There is only so much chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry a person can take. lol

  6. Today is my first day on all liquids, and I do believe my stomach is touching my back! This is really going to be a challenge. I don't understand how some don't have to do the pre-op diet, some do one or two days, and I'm doing two weeks. I'm just going to keep my eyes on the prize. 4/15 is my surgery date, which is also tax day. So essentially, Uncle Sam will be in my pocket whilst Dr. Wooldridge is in my gut. Men are so greedy.

I had a Protein shake for Breakfast, chicken broth, sf Jello and Water for lunch and drank Water all day. I ran back and forth to the restroom so much that I thought of moving my desk there. When I got home I was so hungry I hurried and had a Protein Shake. I guess I'll have vegetable broth, Jello and more water and imagine that I'm at Olive Garden eating my fav chicken and Gnocchi Soup. If anyone can add ideas to this diet, they'd certainly be appreciated. :)

Hey Girl. April 15 is my day too! Can't wait. I start my pre-op diet on Monday. I can have to 2 Protein drinks and one small meal with a lean meat and veggie. The day before it's only Clear Liquids. I dread it. I'm gonna live up it tomorrow! Lol.
