    Day 1

Ai first I wasn't going to tell anyone but family and a couple close friends at work, but I ended up letting evertone know and have not heard one negative comment. Everyone has cheered me on and celebrated the little victories like eating a scrambled egg the other day. Heaven after 4 weeks of liquids. I did lose 13 pounds before surgery since that was what my doctor required and have lost 18 pounds since my surgery. I am 2 weeks out and post op has been pretty much what I expected with a couple of small speed bumps. Good luck on your journey, you will not be sorry.

    Sleeve or bypass

Hi. When I first decided to have WLS I was sure I wanted the sleeve, but I was never quite comfortable with that. After a lot of research and soul searching I decide on the RNY which I had 6/24/14. I have been obese since childhood and felt that the extra components the RNY offered would be better for me. Good luck on making your decision and with the surgery itself. Melissa

JUNE 2014 POST OP SUPPORT GROUP!

Hi, Sent request for new Facebook page. To be honest I cannot understand why people would invite you into a group and he for o apparent reason and without explanation drop you. If there IS a reason fine but at least have the courtesy to tell the affected people why they were dropped.
  5. When my husband and I met I was overweight but since we have been married I have put on a lot of weight, He loves me anyway. He has had a lot of serious health issues that we got through together. When I first talked about having WLS he was not totally on board because he was worried about the risks but after our first visit at the Bariatric center he felt much better. He has been right by my side through it all,I had RNY on 6/24, and I do not see that changing.

    packing/ prepping for hospital

I packed only the essentials. Comfortable clothing to wear home preferably with a loose waist band, pajamas, robe, slippers. I also brought my own toothbrush and hygiene items. Stuff like that. I also brought my IPad but a book or something other to pass the time. Good luck with your surgery. I am only 10 days out but I feel great. Melissa
  8. I would like to thank the vets for all their input. Before I had my RNY I had done tons of research and thought I had a pretty good handle on things. Boy was I wrong. I had to spend an extra day in the hospital and when I got home I stepped on the scale expecting a nice loss. 22 pound GAIN is what I got. I was pretty sure it was Fluid but I posted about it and got great info which eased my mind. Also reading others post about things I experience has made this life changing event easier. Again THANK YOU.

    New-surgery was 6/23

Hello, I had my RNY on the 24th and I did have a drain. I do not have any pain there but do have a lot of discomfort from the bruising on my lower abdomen when I try to lay down. My recliner has been my best friend.

New to group 1 week post - op

Hello all. I had my RNY on 6/24 and am experiencing some of the same issues. I too have severe bruising on my lower abdomen which my doc assured me was normal. I also had retained so much Fluid I gained 22 pounds in the hospital. Thankfully I have lost 24 pounds in 4 days. I am finding it impossible to both drink 64 oz of fluid and get 60 grams of protein. The Protein Drink fill me up so much I cannot take anything else for fear of it coming back up. My biggest issue is that I have no soreness when I am up and about but I cannot lay in my bed,I have been sleeping in a recliner since I got home from the hospital. I hope we can keep in touch and share stories through this life changing journey.

JUNE 2014 POST OP SUPPORT GROUP!

Hello fellow June people. I had my RNY on June 24 and was in the hospital for 3 days, had to stay an extra day for low urine output. Since I have been home I have had ups and downs. Somehow in the hospital I gained 22 pounds. I know it is likely fluid but it was quite a shock when I got on the scale. Other than some loose stool and gas pains I feel great. I am so glad to have found this thread so I can compare my story with others. Tonight I went to a major league baseball game and although I had my concerns about going we had a great time and I feel pretty good. I tried to submit a request to the Facebook page but the link would not work for me. Can someone help me with that,I would love to be involved? Thanks everyone reading your posts has helped a lot.
  13. Hello I had my RNY on 6/24 and feel exactly the same way. I am on full liquids and after a few bites I am not sure if I am full or what. All I know is that I feel like I am going to bust. After I drink Water I feel a strange sensation in my chest and after a few seconds it goes away. I think this is normal. I have tried very hard to sip on water or my Protein drink constantly through the day but have not had any where near 64 oz yet. I have felt a little better every day and hope it continues. I hope you feel better soon. Melissa
  14. Hi all I had my RNY on June 24th. All has gone as I expected to,gas pains surgical pain, etc. The only real problem I had was Fluid retention. My urine output was so low that I had the catheter for an extra day and had to stay in the hospital for an extra day. I also have gained 10 pounds since the surgery. I am guessing it is fluid. Has anyone experienced this and how do you get rid of the excess fluid? Thanks.
  15. I am scheduled to have my gasric bypass on June 24 and would like to talk to people with the same date or near to the same and compare experiences.

    Any June 24th people?

Well here it is surgery day. I am so excited but also a bit nervous. I know the next few weeks won't be easy but I am ready to start my new life. Good luck to all June RNYers.

    Any June 24th people?

2 days to go and I cannot wait, The preop diet has not been too bad but I have not lost any weight. Surprising. I was lucky and my doc allowed 1 meal a day. I hope we all have routine surgeries and easy recoveries. Let's all keep in touch on the other side.

    Any June 24th people?

Thanks to you all for responding, It is nice to know that I can talk to other people who really understand. Lorraine you are probably right about my body saying " Ok where is all the sugar and fat that I used to have." and it has decided to rebel. But it will just have to get used to it. I am trying to drink as much as I can. You have some great ideas. Thanks. jtickle you will do great. I had my gallbladder out laproscopically and it really was not that bad. Take the meds when you need them and walk as much as possible to help with the gas. Good luck to all of us. Very soon we will be on the other side and sitting on the loser's bench.

    Any June 24th people?

The only issue I am having with the pre op diet is I am really tired. I have an active job and as soon as I get home want to go to bed. Cindy and Lorrainne, it would be nice to keep in touch and compare experiences. I keep thinking I should be more nervous but I guess the excitement of a new life takes over. I am so happy to have found this site. My family and friends are very supportive but I don't think they truly understand so I love hearing other people's stories and comparing notes.
  21. I really like the chocolate splendor and have ordered some of the unflavored for post op.
  22. I reallylike the Unjury mix. It is a little bit of a pain to have to order it online but it mixes well with skim milk and tastes great.
  23. I too had originally opted for the sleeve but for many of the same reasons you gave changed my mind and opted for the bypass. Until this past year even though I was morbidly(i hate that word) obese I was riding my bike up to 20 miles, taking clases including SPIN at the gym and was very active. I have a very arthritic knee which has limited my activity to the point where I can't do much. I am an RN so am on my feet alot and by the end of my shift even if I wanted to go to the gym I cannot. I am looking forward to getting the surgery on 6/24 and getting back to the activities I love and miss. I think with some time and learning more you will be more comfortable with the bypass. Good luck.

    Changed my mind

I got the book The Big Book on Gastric Bypass and found it very helpful. It has information on every aspect of the surgery such as pre op preparation, post op diet and the surgery itself, I read the entire book but as my date gets closer find I myself looking back frequently. Just a suggestion.

    Changed my mind

Originally I was going to get the sleeve but after doing a lot of research and soul searching switched to bypass which I am having 6/24. The hospital time is the same but you will need to be more careful with diet after to avoid dumping. I believe the recovery time is the same since both are done with a scope. Hope this helps.
