I wasn't always this way. In fact, I wasn't ever this way--right here, right now, I am probably at the worst physical shape of my life. I am consoled only by the fact that this is temporary. Earlier this year I made the decision to get WLS, and haven't looked back.

For the last 20 years, I have been determined--counting calories, counting fat, Weight Watchers, regular athletic exercise (military), South Beach, Rx trials, and the list goes on. I have tried everything I deemed healthy to get the weight off naturally, and maybe a few things that weren't so good for me. Sometimes I was winning the battle--I kept my weight in healthy range for a good 8 years one time--but it inevitably comes back, and the struggle is harder each and every time. I'm not even considering the WLS as a magic bullet, but just as a way to get my body, my health, and my life back the only way I know how at this point. I've researched and prodded this from every angle, and after the grueling diet and hunger pains I've suffered for the last two years with a net loss of 0, decided this is the best way to get a fighting chance again.

I look forward to seeing you all on the other side, and will start posting pictures when I'm not so appalled by how I look! :-D
