There may be other threads like this, but I thought I'd start a new one here, so everyone could contribute no matter which surgery you had. One of my big inspirations is looking at everyone's before and after pics. I've spent hours on Instagram looking at people's pics so. I thought others might feel inspired too so if you feel comfortable share your before and after pictures here.
I'm only 7 weeks out (RNY) but I'll start. My BFF had surgery a year ago. We went to the zoo two years ago and when we went back this weekend we thought it would be fun to find the picture we took then and take similar ones now. I was at my high weight then, and at my current weight in the 2nd pic. I still have a long way to go obviously, but I was pretty happy with the difference so far.

Not ever....LOL - thanks for putting things in perspective! Can't believe I'm on day 10 now. I was terrified I wouldn't make it past day 1!

I struggled with telling people outside my family and also I'm a leader of a Girl Scout troop of Junior high girls; want to talk about body consciousness issues, talk to a 13 year old girl. I had serious reservations. I mentioned it to a couple of parents and they were supportive and when it becomes obvious to my girls I feel ready to tell them I had WLS, and it was appropriate for someone my age who had health concerns.
I think of all the humiliating situations I've been in because of my weight and I realize, I need to do this just for me. There may be folks who look down on my decision, and cruel people will be cruel no matter my size. Those kind don't have a thing to do with me.

Im in the very begining stages of figuring this whole thing out. I am not telling anyone, not my family not my friends. The only one who knows is my boyfriend, and thats because hes going to be the one taking me home. I know my family won't be thrilled, my mom died a few years ago and a elective surgery especially this? What if something happens? My best friend of 25 years will not be happy for me, if anything it could drive a wedge in our friendship. I will deal with questions when the time comes. Im not going to give answers, it's my business. It was a hard decision to do this and I don't want to have to justify why I decided to do it.

I'm waiting to be discharged now. I'm in minimal pain. Yesterday was a bad day but I did it to myself.

I had my surgery Monday came home Tuesday. So far I'm pain free except for a little soreness at the I incision sites. I'm so glad I did this. I'm tolerating the liquids but not the Jello. I'll wait a couple of days before I try then again. So far so good. I'm walking up and down my stairs and later this evening hubby and I are going to walk around the block to see how I feel afterwards. If I feel good then I'll start walking again, if not I'll stick to my Wiifit workout for a couple if weeks.

I used food to shield me from all kinds of emotions and obstacles. In my generation it didnt seem like anyone was talking about nutrition cleaning your plate. I didn't really know much about why i was obese until it was too late. I am also convinced that genetics loaded then gun too. My daughter studied nutrition and said that and the other half of the problem is environment. My son was starting down the path as an adolescent and took control of it and looks great. It was his transformation that prompted him to take me to a consultation (really an intervention because i was stuck and scared) and he brought his sister . So i gave birth to him and he helped save my life. I hope that more young people get this under control early. However it is worth many discussions and reflections....

Surgery Date Set April 30!!! Now im getting nervous.

Today is day 7 of my preop diet and it seems to be getting a little easier!!! I can have 4 prepackaged "New Direction" (like optifast) diet foods a day, plus 4 oz. lean meat and unlimited green veggies. The diet food is pretty bad but the serving of meat and veggies helps. Plus unlimited sugar free Jello, popsicles and crystal light. I am so ready for my surgery it's not even funny. I have moved from scared, to anxious, to slightly nervous, to impatient! LOL
