How long were you out of work?
esskay77 replied to Emmyandlisa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It depends on a lot of things. Which type of surgery? How is your pain tolerance? Will you be off pain meds by then? Frankly, I could have gone to work by then but you will be tired, just prepare for that. I was off the pain meds by then, too. In fact, I stopped taking them the day I got home from the hospital. You don't want to drive while on the pain meds. But I have a pretty high tolerance for pain. I also do a desk job and was petty good by then, though a little slow. You can't be carrying anything heavy. One of the biggest things to deal with is what and how to eat. But I can't tell you what to do, I can only tell you that I possibly could have done it but I don't think most people could/would. Make sure to take care of yourself regardless of your decision. -
I love the applause box and I bet there is an app for that!!!!

Are you asking for chicken recipes that you do on an actual grill? I don't have any for that since I guess that is more just rubs and things, not actual recipes. But, if you want chicken recipes in general... Chicken Marsala The recipe is actually on the Marsala wine bottle. I usually double the liquid. 4 chicken cutlets (I don't always follow how much, just fill up the pan with flattened out chicken) 2 tbsp butter 2 cups mushrooms, sliced 1 1/2 cups Marsala wine 1/2 cup Water 2 tbsp fresh parsley chopped 1/2 tsp rosemary (optional) Pound the chicken so it is thin. The recipe calls for you to dredge the chicken in flour but sometimes I don't do that and it comes out the same way. In a large skillet, melt butter and saute mushrooms over medium heat until browned, 10 minutes. Remove and set aside. Add chicken (sometimes I add a bit of olive oil if the pan seems to be a bit dry). Cook through, probably about 4 minutes on each side if it is thin. Remove to serving platter. Return mushrooms to pan and stir in Marsala wine and water, parsley and rosemary. Sometimes I thicken it up a little bit by using a mixture of corn starch and water in a little cup and pour in slowly while stirring, depends on how you like the sauce. Don't make it too thick. It should be pourable I then add the chicken back into the pan to get it warmed up again and mixed in with the juices. Put on a platter and serve. MMmmmm!! Chicken Stir Fry A couple of chicken breasts, cut up into cubes A bag of stir fry vegetables (or you can cut up your own veggies) Add some olive oil to a pan and heat up Add chicken and cook mostly through Add veggies and cook everything through Because I'm not good with stir frying, my pan tends to get dried up so I add some low fat, low sodium chicken broth to the mixture which adds some liquid into the pan but also adds some really great flavor Serve and enjoy! I have more but I don't know if this is what you were looking for so I'll stop here! Best of luck!

Post surgery questions
esskay77 replied to tina winkle's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know about the perforated bowel but the gall bladder is a pretty common problem. Many surgeons automatically remove it when they do the gastric bypass. Mine didn't but I did have to go back and have it removed. People who lose a lot of weight usually end up having their gall bladder removed due to stones, etc. So, I don't think this is necessarily unusual, just a hassle. -

Vitamins making me stall?
esskay77 replied to msmisaacs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Talk to your doctor/nurse and/or NUT but there is a reason you are not supposed to take Calcium with the other Vitamins. That is one thing that I hear from all docs so don't take them all at once with your multi!! Take them later in the day. I'm not sure about taking them all at once. I assume that isn't a good idea but I don't know why. If it was a good idea, they would have you do that already. Please follow doctor's orders and don't make your own rules. You will be more successful in many ways that way. But is that causing a stall? Probably not. My guess is that if you aren't following the Vitamin rules, maybe you aren't following some of the other rules? Be very diligent. Best of luck! Let us know how it goes. -
Plain water hurts my stomach...
esskay77 replied to blashlee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Until water tastes good to you again, drink crystal light or anything that is liquid to get your fluids in. Dark urine means you are dehydrated and that is not good. Drink drink drink!! lol -
Would love a meetup! Let us know when/where.

Almost 18 months out and struggling a little....
esskay77 replied to sundiate2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm also stalled but don't feel I'm done yet. Have you tried the 5 day pouch test? Or diet. I'm going to try that. I've heard it works to sort of reset yourself. http://5daypouchtest.com/ I think that by this time, old habits start to creep in without us realizing it. Let me know if this works!! S -
Mom just said..
esskay77 replied to jackie's journey's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That changes back a bit. I go through periods where I have big bags under my eyes and look kind of haggard and then that changes and I start to look normal again. People just need to get used to your new look. And how sad that she would say that! -

It sounds too soon to be adding carbs? I can't remember when I was allowed to add those but I can tell you that when I did the weight loss slowed down for sure! And it is so easy to have carbs sneak back in and be a problem again. I'm not allowed over 100 grams of carbs/day. I didn't realize, this also includes fruits. When did fruits become classified as carbs??!! lol Keep track of how many grams of each (protein/carbs/fats) you are having. In fact, make sure to log it in your journal but you also may want to take a pic of each meal to find out if your portions are correct. Best of luck! -
Ibuprofen for Headaches/Migraines and menstrual cramps
esskay77 replied to KamiDP's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My doctor and several other WLS doctors I know are very specific--NO NSAIDS!! Which Ibuprofen is part of. Tylenol is fine. -

esskay77 replied to greeneyes22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WHat specifically are you eating? Can you share your food journal entries here? ANd how much of each? Maybe you aren't getting enough protein in yet, it's hard to say with so little info. -
I would still go--just get the soup (even hot and sour would be good or the dumpling soup without the dumplings). You will get full anyway, and just say you must not be feeling well and can't eat more or that you had a bite before you came or something like that. It's good to be around people!!

You probably won't get sick but I'm guessing it is not the best choice. Can you have egg drop Soup or miso soup or something like that? The sauce in most chinese food is something to always avoid but I also don't know if chicken will be good if you haven't had solid food yet. WHat does your NUT say? S

My hair! My face!
esskay77 replied to jackie's journey's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you talked with your doctor? This is always the first step. A lot of us take Biotin for hair/nails since hair loss can be common. I don't know if it works or not but it seems to for me. Are you eating enough Protein? That is also key. And, are you taking all your Vitamins? Keep a food journal and be honest with what you are eating, etc. Drink all your Water, too. But most importantly, talk to your doctor about what to do. Let us know how that goes. -

Baked mozarella Sticks...yay or nay?
esskay77 replied to BostonStrong617's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you are talking about breaded fried mozzarella sticks, then the answer is no. If you want to somehow melt some low fat mozzarella and eat that, then maybe? -
I was told: "I would start with your post-op diet routine and track all the you eat. My postop diet is 60 to 80 grams of Protein, 30 grams of fats, and no more than 100 grams of carbs. Eating Proteins first, then carbs and finally fats." Start logging your food in a journal, and get back to exercising! yes, the winter was harsh but it is now over with. You can do this. And get to a support group! It really helps.

6 weeks isn't very long. You will still be tired for a bit and eventually that will change and you will have a LOT of energy! lol. Of course, when you have your check up with your doctor/nurse it's a good idea to bring it up.

Gastric Bypass Veterans - Get real with me!
esskay77 replied to ilikecake2much's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My "good" average day: Kashi bar and coffee for Breakfast Hardboiled egg about an hour later If I have time, I have a nf greek yogurt for a snack lunch is usually some grilled chicken from the salad bar and some red onions, green peppers, feta cheese, cherry tomatoes, balsamic vinegar (and sometimes a bit of olive oil) If I remember but I usually forget: another yogurt or some cottage cheese for mid day snack dinner is usually some chicken or ground turkey meal (turkey chili, baked chicken, sauteed chicken, chicken stir fry, that sort of thing). Protein bar for dessert (Quest or other) I don't dump from any of that. If I'm cheating it may or may not get me but my symptoms are pretty mild. Some people don't get this, others get it really bad. The best thing is to eat right and you won't have to worry! -
I'm guessing that your doctor wants your body to settle in. You will probably lose more yet so it might be too premature to do the surgery yet. Just a guess, though. Congrats on the weight loss so far!! That's awesome!
