  1. So I'm 3.5weeks post op and still on my soft food diet but next week I move on to real foods. I'm nervous about not having a limited diet but I have already changed the foods we buy, my brain does think about what I will eat for the next meal. I'm rarely hungry, but I do occasionally see a goodie in the pantry and remember how good they taste. I don't want to eat it I just remember how it was before. But just to keep myself in check I decided to get rid of some leftover Easter candy and I put it all in goodie bags for my oldests birthday party on Friday. I'd rather not have the temptation here at all. I know I'm just starting my journey but I can see how my brain reacts to food differently than before and I am so grateful for the change. I hope I can keep moving forward and beating those demons that have controlled my entire adult life.
  2. I'm sure this is going to be typical but I need some reassurance. I had my sleeve on 4/14/14 and so far I'm down 11lbs from surgery. My thing is, the last 7 days I have only lost a pound. It's really hard to see the scale not moving so soon after surgery. I've struggled with my Protein and liquids but that's getting better. I guess I just expected to see more of a loss in 7 days. So what has your experience been? Is this typical? Is it just my body trying to figure it all out?

    Feeling a little down.

I've managed to lose a few more pounds for a total of 13lbs post op. No way I could have lost that in 3 weeks (that averages out to 4.3lbs each week) on my own so I've stepped away from the scale and will weigh in once a week if I'm feeling good about it, but I may limit that for awhile. I don't want my life to become a number on the scale. I'm following the rules and I know the weight will come off. I'm sure I will be less terrified once a get about 60lbs gone. I'm feeling better, my clothes are loose and that's an amazing feeling.

    I just want to cry

Today is my 3 week mark. So I'm just a few days ahead of you. I'm on soft foods so I can have tuna, talapia, things like that. I sit and eat with my husband and 3 kids. Sometimes I have food with them and other times I just have water. Now instead of being down that I can't have some of the things they have I try to focus on talking to my family. I ask my oldest about her day and really listen to her stories. I talk to my twins and encourage them to eat (they are terrible eaters) it's just less about food now and more about the time I spend with them at the table. This may or may not help you but it has helped me. I steam a bag of edamame and eat a few here and there. It will get better for us and we will get to the point where we can eat the same foods as our family, just in smaller portions. I'm already starting to transition my husband and kids towards the way we ALL should be eating.

    Incisions

I had 4 incisions for the actual surgery and then the 5th is where they put the drain.
  6. Congratulations on your success! I'm not quite 3 weeks out and feel better already after a 33lbs total loss. It's always great to see people who achieved their ultimate goal.
  7. I'm a stay at home mom but I needed help the first three days with my kids. But after that I was good to go. I would have easily been able to go back to work within a week.
  8. Thanks for sharing! I too lost 11lbs the first week then nothing in week 2. I was so bummed. I'm almost 3 weeks but trying to weigh only once a week. Congratulations on your progress!

    April 14th!

I'm just now getting to where I can tolerate much of anything. For Breakfast I have a Protein shake Water in between Snack - boiled egg or cottage cheese (like 3 bites is all I can do) Water lunch - Protein Shake (usually the rest of what I couldn't finish at breakfast) Water Snack - today I tried edamame and it was delicious. Water Supper - tuna or talapia I'm getting maybe 500-600 calories in each day. I've been really focusing on protein because I've had a really hard time getting in more than 35g each day. The last 2 days have been better. But then my water intake suffers because I'm so full. I have to make myself drink and/or eat. I have yet to feel hungry.

    April 14th!

How are all the 4/14 sleevers doing? I'm feeling great, but my loss has stalled out for some reason. It's incredibly frustrating. I've lost 11lbs since my surgery date for a total of 31lbs, but I don't know why the scale hasn't moved in over a week. I'm following orders and trying to get all my protein and liquid in but it's difficult. I look forward to hearing from others.

    Shorties

I'm 5'2 and my doctor didn't give me a target weight. He said most patients lose 60-80% of excess weight which still leaves us overweight. That's with not doing much extra. For my surgeon I think they try to stay away from putting a number on where we should be so that this journey doesn't seem so daunting. I personally have a end goal of 135, but I may see that at 150 or 160 that I am good and wouldn't want to weigh less. This journey is more about how I feel and being healthy than only focusing on the number on the scale. I'm just going to be thrilled to weigh under 200! That will be a huge accomplishment.

    4 weeks out-soft solid stage

I've been stuck for the last week. Monday made two weeks post op. I've lost 11 pounds since surgery and 20 pounds before surgery. It really has messed with my head to not see the scale move this early on. But I've struggled with my Protein and Water intake. Yesterday and today my goals have been to get 70g of protein and as much water as I can tolerate to see if that helps. I'm still on pureed so I'm not really eating much other than an egg here and there and a smooshed avocado. Everyone says a stall is normal but it hasn't helped me feel any less bummed about it.
  13. I'm two weeks out and have graduated to pureed foods. I use my kids baby bowls and a baby spoon to help regulate how much I eat in a bite. I did the same when I was on just liquids and trying to have broth. Learning to sip and take small bites is a big deal!
  14. I'm 2 weeks out and have stalled but I'm pretty sure it's because I'm having such a hard time getting in my proteins. I'm just starting puréed foods and the shakes are getting a little easier to tolerate. Despite the scale not moving (down 11lbs since surgery) I can see that my clothes are fitting differently. So now I am making a promise to only weigh once a week. I too am a busy mommy. I have a 5yr old daughter and 2yr old twin daughters. I think our bodies are still adjusting and we just have to be patient and know that if we are following the rules the weight will come off.
  15. I'm only 2 weeks out but it takes me about 2 hours to drink a whole shake. Now water I tolerate better and can drink a glass in about 30 minutes but the shakes are really hard for me. I asked my surgeon at my post op and he said most people struggle the first few weeks with getting in the 64oz. But it makes us try harder to reach the 64oz. But as you see everyone has different restriction. I just try to keep a glass of liquid nearby and my goals this week are to get in 2 protein shakes each day, hopefully it will get easier but it's a lot of work at the moment.

    Feeling a little down.

Thanks for the encouragement. I am currently weighing in once a week. And as you say I'm trying to not let a number be a reflexion of me but we all know that's hard to do when you have resorted to surgery because you can't seem to do it on your own. I am thrilled that I've lost 31 since I started my journey and I know that the scale will move. It just stings a bit when you aren't even eating solids yet and you have a stall. It will get better and today my goal is to get in 2 protein shakes (I've been struggling to get one down each day) and to get in plenty of water. It's all a learning process. For my brain and my body. But hearing from others always makes it better. Us newly sleeved folks (or at least myself) are terrified to fail. So a stall really hurts to the bone. But I WILL get to where I want to be, but I know it won't be easy. Thanks again for sharing.

    Memorial Day Challenge

225....kinda bummed about that. But it's better than a gain.
  18. Hi! My name is Casie and I'm 31 years old, married for 7.5yrs with 3 beautiful daughters ages 5, 2, & 2. I started my journey back in January by doing lots and lots of research. I finally made an appointment without discussing it with my husband and made the decision to move forward. My insurance required a 3 month supervised diet and my surgeons group also had a plethora of things that needed to be done before surgery could be scheduled. I found out that I have sleep apnea, which I wasn't expecting but all the more reason to keep pushing through. My journey is really just beginning as I am now 4 days post op. But I have no regrets. I can't wait to see how the next 6 months go. Heaviest weight: 256 Weight day of surgery: 236 Weight 4 days post op: 231
  19. I agree with everyone else. It's nice to have someone there. I would have been fine to be home alone, but we have 3 kids all 5 and younger so I had to have someone here who could mainly look after them. I'm now just shy of 2 weeks post op and back to normal except that I still can't pick up the little ones. But they have handled that pretty well and know to be careful around my tummy.

    My story so far...

I'm doing much better. I got my drain out today and in the last 20 days I have lost 14lbs. Dr Marker was thrilled with my progress and I'm just glad to have that awful drain removed. I get to graduate to pureed foods now so we will see how that goes. Glad to be on the other side of surgery and feeling like myself again.
  21. Ok so I've read tons and tons about post op constipation. But I don't think I've seen a single thing about post op diarrhea? Surely I am not the only person to have this problem?? And at what point should I be concerned?
