    Showering after Surgery

I was able to take a shower 2 days after surgery. I used dial soap and soaped up a wash cloth and squeezed it over my belly then rinsed and patted dry with a clean towel. The Water does not hurt but I also didn't just stand there with the water hitting my incisions directly for long. You will be given care instructions before you leave the hospital.

    Omg I ate how much?

I am only 2 weeks out and my doctor had me stay on a clear liquid diet so that my new little tummy would have more time to heal before full liquids. Your stomach line takes months to fully heal so be kind to your body and follow the doctor's diet plan. Your stomach is a muscle and YES it will stretch or even worse you could cause yourself to get a leak!

    Silly Hospital Clothing Questions

I bought pj's and packed a bag with my kindle and a book. I never touched anything in my bag but the chap stick. The hospital gave me anti gas medicine through the iv, I couldn't put pj's on because of the iv's and I didn't care at that point. I slept more than anything and if I wasn't sleeping I was walking.
  4. I have been feeling great and following doctor's order's to a "T". I even agreed to do another week of a "Clear Liquids" just to give my new little pouch more time to heal before moving to full liquids. I have been having a hard time getting in 13 cups of liquids but besides that feeling good. I went to Target yesterday just to get out of the house and walk around. I even went grocery shopping with my 13 yr old who did all the lifting even closing the truck door for me upon entering and exiting. Today I have a dull headache all across my forehead and feel very fatigued I even took a 3 hour nap today. I also have a low grade temp of 100.6 but it hasn't gone any higher. Just wondering if the symptoms are normal for 9 days post-op. Yes I did put a call in for the doctor just waiting on his return call.

What are the signs of a leak?

I spoke with my doctor this morning and he doesn't feel that it is a leak. He thinks I over exerted myself by running errands and what not. I am still on a clear diet and am not getting that many calories he wants me to slow down. He is calling me in some antibiotics cause he said I shouldn't be running a temp 10 days post op. I go and see him Thursday.

    diet pepsi lovers?

I was a Dr. Pepper addict! I hate coffee and that was my go to for my morning caffeine fix. I would drink it throughout the day. I gave up soda a month before surgery so it wouldn't be a total shock to my body during the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. I am only 9 days out but have not even thought about wanting one. I am not even hungry yet!

What are the signs of a leak?

Yes I just took the liquid Tylenol that the doctor prescribed after surgery. My headache is starting to subside now and I broke my fever.

    Wanting to feel normal!

At my 1 week post-op appointment my surgeon asked if I could tolerate another week on "Clear Liquids". He said that it would be best for my new little tummy so that it would reduce the stimulation of the digestive system and give my stomach more time to heal. He said I could have a watered down protein shake but I tried that and it hurt so clear liquids it is. I want my little pouch to heal and for the swelling to go down before I try creamier liquids. Good Luck to all!
  9. I lost 7lbs my first week post-op!

    Want to cheat so bad!

Brush your teeth every time you feel the urge to eat! Nothing taste good with a minty fresh mouth. Do not jeopardize your surgery for a craving. You have come so far don't stop now!! The liquid diet is hard and if it were easy we wouldn't need weight loss surgery would we? I know it is hard having that internal struggle but you can beat it!! Do not let food control you anymore, you got this!!

    Week One Liquids

I have a ton of recipes on my pinterest board look me up http://www.pinterest.com/frenchiew/. I broke them down by the WLS stages. Here is a great homemade chicken broth recipe. http://www.familyfreshmeals.com/2014/03/easy-homemade-chicken-broth.html#_a5y_p=1415361
  12. I am on 2 weeks of Clear Liquids and then I can move to full liquids for another week, then pureed foods and so on. Every doctor is different my doctor said it was more beneficial to stay on the clear liquids for an extra week so that my stomach can heal and reduce the stimulation of the digestive system.
  13. My surgery was April 4th and I went home the next day. My back hurt more than anything since I am used to sleeping on my side. I am now feeling great and getting back into my daily routines. My doctor asked for me to stay on the clear liquid diet for one more week since I was tolerating it well. He said it would be beneficial to the healing of my stomach. I am looking forward to protein shakes and creamy soups next week. The only thing that is truly hard is not being able to pick up my toddler, he is 2 and weighs 27 pounds. I was so happy to be cleared to drive, I was getting cabin fever. I love going to Target and just walking around the store for an hour. Hopefully next week I will be cleared to start going to the gym. For now I just walk, walk, walk!

    Doubting...please help

I am one week post-op and let me tell you that YES it is all worth it! The pre-op diet sucks but you just have to do it!! I had to be on the full liquid pre-op diet and it was hard and was more of a battle with myself. I would find myself in the kitchen and stare into the fridge. You have to really battle those internal demons during those 2 weeks. I lost a total of 18lbs during those weeks and I felt so proud of myself for sticking with it. I had to cook for my family and it was not easy...I found that when I felt like I may cheat I would go brush my teeth. Nothing tastes good when your mouth is minty fresh. We all have fears but mine were more about what if I didn't have the surgery. Diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, chronic pain, early death...These fears far out weighed my fear of surgery. I am feeling great and am starting to get back to daily life. You are going to do great, be positive and believe in yourself!!

    Vitamins

Now that I am officially a "Sleever" and 4 days post-op which type of Vitamins should I purchase? I was self pay and wasn't required to see a nutritionist so any advice is welcome!

    Any April Sleevers?

Pain was rough the first night but after getting up and walking it was bearable. I only take pain meds at night before bed to be comfortable since I usually sleep on my side and not my back. The gas pains are going to be the worst part. Just walk, walk, walk!! Besides that I am feeling like myself just get tired easy since I am on Clear liquids for 2 weeks.

    Any April Sleevers?

I am now 4 days post-op! All of the days on the pre-op diet where you just wanted to pull your hair out are so worth it! I lost 18 pounds during those two weeks. I was a nervous wreck the night before surgery wondering "Did I make the right decision?" , "Did my liver shrink enough"? so many thought's...But the morning of surgery when I was being prepped I felt a wave of calm come over me (and that was before the nighttime juice lol) My doctor and the rest of the staff were so wonderful and kind and also put my fiancé at ease. Now things are moving along and it's weird not to be hungry! I feel like I am on an episode of the Twilight Zone. You all are going to do so great and I look forward to following your journey's. All the hard work and effort are going to pay off and we are all going to enjoy our new fit and healthy selves!
  18. At this time tomorrow I will be a "SLEEVER"! I am filled with emotions..excited, nervous, my stomach is tied in knots! This forum has been a godsend and I am so thankful for all of you that have shared your stories and experiences. It is very helpful and is nice to know that people have been where I am going.

    Tomorrow is the BIG day!

Hi everyone, I had a little hiccup during surgery. The hospital I went to ordered a smaller tip guide so during the surgery the doctor snipped the tip off. It took him an extra 45min to find it. Thank god it was in the cut out portion of my belly. Everything else has been great. I was up and walking the day of surgery doing lap after lap around my ward. I got to go home the next day. Just having a hard time getting enough fluids down. The doctor wants 13 cups of clear fluids per day. I walk laps around the house, drink as much as I can then nap. This is pretty much how it has been since I got home. Hope to be able to get more fluids in soon.

    WHAT TO PACK FOR SURGERY?

My surgery is tomorrow...I packed my pillow, slippers, ipad, phone charger, chapstick, face cleansing clothes, face cream, dry shampoo since you can't shower, gas x, tooth brush/tooth paste, bringing loose pajama pants to walk around in the halls. don't need a top cause I will be stuck in the gown due to the iv. For when I come home I will be stuck on clear liquids so crystal light, Jello, Isopure clear Protein drink, broth, and that's about it!

10 Days With No Food. Lord!

I am on day 13 of my liquid diet and that is because my BMI was 47 and my liver needs to shrink before surgery. It is tough and you will have internal battles but be strong and don't give in. The first 3 days suck but the rest just fly by. Night time is the worst for me this is when I normally snacked. Watching the Walking Dead without chips and spinach dip was rough. lol But I have lost 20lbs since starting this liquid diet so if that isn't reason enough I don't know what is. You can do this!!
  24. I am having my surgery Friday and my nerves are starting to kick in. I don't really care about the skin cause I am planning on getting that fixed along with a new pair of knockers. I am a DDD and the first place I loose weight is in my chest. I just don't want tube socks for boobs. But that being said I am so excited to get healthy and to get this fat off of me! I rather look like I am melting than be the butterball I am now! Good Luck to you!!

    Can I Do This?

I am on day 12 and I feel that the liquid diet is a really good way to see where your head is at. I have struggled, caught myself staring into the fridge, it is all a head game. When ever I get hungry I brush my teeth..I know weird right? Ever drink OJ after brushing your teeth? YUCK! It works for me. Night time is the worst..the later I stay up the louder my stomach and head say "Let's Eat"! Just keep busy and push yourself. You may cry, be an irritable "B" for a while but in the end it is all worth it! Good Luck
