Why does everything have to include food?
I teach public speaking and our "how to" speeches always seem to include food. Yesterday it was chocolate mousse, banana pudding with vanilla wafers, taco dip and apple crisp. The students were in heaven. I wanted to cry.

slow weightloss in the beginning.....
The scale is not our friend!!! It can drive you crazy. So can comparing yourself to people on the boards. Take the helpful advice and leave the weight loss comparisons alone. We all wish we could lose 40 pounds in the first 3 weeks but that's just not reality for the majority of people. I am 9 weeks yesterday, and just now got to 40 pounds. And trust me when I tell you, that's plenty fast!!! My skin thinks it's a bit too fast!

Do you have a gall bladder?

Maryland anne arundel county
I would classify my experience as somewhere in the middle. I had no major complication but it certainly was not a breeze. I don't think the pain was horrible. I only spent 28 hours total in the hospital. I did end up with some severe bruising and a hematoma around one of my incisions. I also had a low grade fever about day 5 and ended up on several antibiotics. Certainly not the end of the world. I went back to work on day 7. For me, energy has been the issue. I have not been able to exercise which is huge issue for how my body is adapting to the weightloss. I've lost 40 since surgery. I've gone from a 22 pant to a 16, and a 2X top to a large. But I'm really saggy and part of the issue is a lack of exercise. I've been able to start walking on the treadmill the last few days and hope to start swimming next week. This is a lot more work than I anticipated.

Exercise
I was cleared at week 4 but did not have the energy or stamina to do much of anything until week 8. Just an example of how different our recovery is from one person to another.

I live in Frederick County but I start a new job in College Park mid-August. I'm 2 months post op today. I had surgery at INOVA in Fairfax.

Fitbit
My hubby and the next door neighbor are obsessed with beating each other each week. So if you have some friends you can use as motivation it's a great tool for anyone.

Looking for a sensible Breakfast idea!
Oatmeal or cream of wheat with fruit and nuts. I like banana walnut or apple almond.

Sleeversary and Weight Watchers LIES
My 17 tear old lost 65 pounds in one year on weight watchers. She's dedicated and motivated so WW worked great for her. Also, my mother who is 8 years post bypass follows WW to maintain her weightloss.

QUESTION: If U had gastric bypass & U had 2 do all over again verses the SLEEVE would U?
I have no regrets. I'm totally good with my bypass. I'm glad I listened to my surgeon.

PB2
I have regular peanut butter almost daily.

struggling
I'm 8 weeks out and still not hitting mine either. My biggest issue is fluids. I can't stand the taste of anything with artificial sweetner, which is a post surgery thing for me. And I have always hated water!

why endoscopy, colonoscopy?
I didn't have any procedures prior to surgery. I was only required to have my cardiologist do an ekg.

Denied insurance. We are crushed!
Will the insurance approve a bypass? My insurance does not approve the sleeve at the same rate as the RNY bypass. They said the bypass is the "gold standard" with longer proven history.

Itchy, bruised belly - 6 days postop
My brusing was so bad it took 6 weeks to go away.

What foods made you dump?
Crab cake made my heart race within 5 minutes. chicken noodle Soup from Wegmans Market Place made me throw up 10 minutes into the meal.( made no sense) Those the only significant issues I have had in 8 weeks. That being said, I do get nauseous and end up with diarrhea often, which my nutritionist says that is still dumping even when it's hours later. Strawberries are a no go for me. Still not eating steak. Bowl of cheerios with lactose free milk wasn't good. Small Totillas not do great.

I had my gall bladder out 2/14 and my RNY on 4/15. Trust me, you don't want to have a gall bladder attack! I had to go to the ER twice. The surgery recovery was less than a week.

April 2014 RNY/Bypass Post Op Support
I am stalled as well. I didn't lose anything in week 7. Today marks 8 weeks. I also had a stall week 3/4. My nutritionist warned me about this one.

2 months post-op 25lbs down. Anyone else?
So much factors in to how much we lose. Our starting weight, our dietary plan, whether we can exercise, how many stalls we have had etc. I'm 8 weeks post op. I have not lost anything in 10 days. I'm sitting at 34 pounds. I don't use Protein supplements and have only been on "real" food since day 15. I am happy for those who have lost more but I can't use them as a measuring tool. Neither should you.

Still havent had a bowel movment!
I had my surgery 4/15. For the last 8 weeks I have spent more than my fair share of time in the bathroom. While everything worked, I would not call any of it "normal" BM. Today, 1 day shy of 8 weeks, I finally had what I would a normal BM!!! Just shows how each journey is so different.

What do you ladies recommend ?
I didn't have a catheter after surgery so the first time I got up to use the bathroom I put on underwear. That made a huge difference for me. Gown was fine then.

Deviled ham? Other meats during phase 2?
I think your husband is correct. Most plans do not allow high fat food, especially that early.

Going back to work
It depends on your job. I went back after a week. Felt like crap but I was in the middle of a semester and could not miss classes. It was only 3 hours in the classroom. Driving to and from was the worse part. I think 2 weeks would have been the best bet for me. I felt much better by then.

June 2013 Group?
All the threads that included a month got moved. On the main bypass menu click support groups. They are in there somewhere. I think pick year first then the months show up.
