    Heu Guys

Today is my 1 month Surgeversary. I proudly lost 21.5 kgs which translates to almost 47 pounds! Its been a rough ride but i am enjoying it so far! If i have one piece of advice to anybody is just stick with the program and remember eat as much of the right foods as you can. It will bump up ur metabolism and get you to where you want to be. I still have 28kgs to lose but i know i will lose them.
All thanks to my surgeon Dr Khaled Qatry in Alexandria, Egypt who is the kindest most compassionate kind and always concerned surgeon i have ever met. He never focuses on the small things but always makes sure the big picture is right

Hi Y'all I am supposed to start my pre-op diet this Friday and have been contemplating having a last big meal (Thinking of a 16oz steak, mash and gravy with hefty piece of garlic bread. I know this is wrong and beats the psychological prep, but I believe in going out with a bang! So did you get one and what was it?
    Cheers

    Hi All,
I am a future bander from Alexandria, Egypt. I have set my operation date for March 1st 2014. I am so determined for this to work as I consider this my last chance. I am 29 and hope this will assist in shedding off the pounds quickly. Will keep you updated as we get closer!
    Cheers

I don't often read the external blogs people post, but did read yours. I suppose the title caught my eye. And I'm glad I did! Very well written! I'll offer a couple suggestions/replies to your quotes.
" Every meal now seems like a chore and I’m starting to dread mealtime…"
I'm guessing PART of the reason you feel this way is you're only 4 1/2 months post banding. For me it just got "normal"....after some period of time.
"I will remind myself daily that this is a process that will help me learn to live a healthier life" YES THIS!
There is no end date, no finish line, its our new life....
"And, I’m hoping in time, I will get used to this new lifestyle" YOU WILL!
    Best wishes!

    i love eating
as do most people who want to live......but i lived to eat and hence why i was supersized....i was told early on on this WLS process to learn to change what/how i eat.....it took time.....i now by habit, eat very slowly, take wee bites and let one bite go down before moving on to the next.......(case in point last night, i had the cold ASS supper last nigh....i made hot chili and due to me eating so slow, its cold not long after i start) and that is how it is for me now.....my food gets cold..
its just something we need to learn to do and def let your band or whatever WLS guide you on eating.....the signs are there (to stop, you had enough or slow it down).
great blog. i try to read it often.

I'm right there with you -- not a lot of restriction despite one fill. I've been avoiding rice as well. I only ate it once in a blue moon, but when I wanted fried rice, I wanted it. Now I stick to chicken and broccoli at Chinese restaurants and no rice.
I too had a last hurrah -- Steak 'n shake patty melt w/ cheese fries!
Before I was on the pre-op diet I thought I'd do a 'Foodie Favorites World Tour' - my nut didn't like that idea. She said I was reinforcing the deprivation feelings. I just wanted to eat my favorites one last time w/o much guilt! I had a few favorites and those that I 'missed out on' during my pseudo farewell tour, I've been able to have in small portions after surgery.
I'm actually glad it happened this way because I'm now allowing myself to have a little of what I thought I CRAVED back then and I'm figuring out it wasn't all that great after all.
To the chicken salad lunch person -- I hear ya, I'm a Monday-Friday tuna w/ light mayo girl. Easy and yummy!

Me too! I stay far away from rice it always gets stuck! Also any type of bread, I can do small bites of tortilla sometimes. I do fine with chips. But cake, breads, donuts... Any fluffy bread will get stuck! I'm glad for this since it's all bad news! To the poster: good for you! Eat up! I actually quit eating red meat and chicken since I had too many issues with it, so enjoy you a juicy cheeseburger! And a beer;)

Just got banded on Friday! And I'm so happy about it! I've been having some gassiness, slim trying to walk around a lot. I'm excited for this journey!
One annoying thing though (maybe you can relate) everyone around me now apologizes for eating, EVERYTIME! I've gotten to the point where I just snap back. I don't mean to be harsh, but I keep saying "don't feel sorry for me" "I CHOSE to do this" I just want to be apart of my family again, now I feel like they are just pitying me. They even went out to dinner and they felt horrible for telling me when they came back from errends. I told them "you know I can still go out, just right now all I can have is Soup." But I'd still like to be apart of the social aspect of it! Just frustrating, and I know it's a change not only for me, but my family too. Oh well, feels nice to rant. Lol.

Here in Italy they do not ask people who are going to have lap band surgery to go on a pre-op diet.
But I knew it would be too hard passing from the huge amount of foot I was used to swallowing to the tiny quantities allowed by the band.
So, a month before surgery I was for three weeks in a hospital where I followed a program of rehabilitation from obesity, which consisted in healthy food, exercise, group meetings with a nutritionist and a psychologist.
    It was very helpful.
I'm grateful for that experience because it contributed to change my attitude to food.< /p>
Anyway, I don't mean my old self never comes back..
Change is very slow and might take years.
Rossetag - I love the idea of the three week "pre-band" rehab program. I've never heard of it being done, but it makes good sense.

My last meal was all the snacky junk food in my house...chips, icecream, twizzlers, soda, etc...I even probably ate my kids fruit Snacks.
    Truly a glutton fest!
I'm so glad that desire is gone. I never thought about never eating certain foods again...I thought you just had to eat less. Now I stay away from all bread and Pasta...knowing what I know now I might have made a different last meal choice.

Thanks everybody for sharing your last glutton fest experience!
Yesterday my wife cooked up some chicken tikka masala with some rice and gave me a huge bowl so I decided to test my eating method, so I got out the tiniest tea spoon and set the timer on my phone for one minute. So the idea was 1 spoonfull every minute.... half way through I was stuffed but like a good old future formerly fat bastard I carried on and polished off the entire bowl, the achievement is its the first time since we got together that I never went for seconds.
Tonight is burger night, you see the problem is I own a gourmet burger store (next to the day job) and tonight will be the last big 10 oz juicy burger I will ever be able to finish in one sitting!

I didn't have a last big meal. I was already so fooded out and miserable, and felt there was absolutely nothing that I could shove in that I hadn't already had. I was so ready for this surgery, and already felt the absolute worst I wanted to feel. But that is not to say that I don't understand the "last supper" mentality. I've certainly done it before starting other diets

I've tried rice three times since being banded and all three times I got stuck and vomited. I've tried eating slow, chewing until the cows came home and even tried mixing in some sauce. Each time...stuck. It is one of the few foods I absolutely avoid because it isn't worth it.
