Size goal vs Pound goal
I agree because initially I wanted to weigh 145-- had been my goal weight since highschool. But now at 163 I am somehow wearing a size 8, I really don't want to wear size size. I am 5' 5" and feel like size 6 is just too small for my height. Im 42.

hi carrie c I'm from cleveland too. maybe we know each other. You will love being banded. You just have to commit to doing what it takes to eat band friendly foods, get your adjustments and exercise. Its really fun after some weight loss. Prior to weight loss I could bearly ride my bike. Now I outride my husband!

Dr land also performed my surgery, and I am so pleased with the results. Just as you said It is just a tool. I have to consistantly exercise, and I now do strength training too. I have lost all but 10 pounds of my weight. I was band oct 3 of last year (2007). what a diff it has made. I weighed in at 241 on the day of sugery I now weigh about 165 and wear size 10 and a few size 8. I at first wanted to weigh 145 as goal but that will cause me to wear like a 4 and that is too small for my 5' 5" height. I only want to lose about 10 more and its probably skin. If you follow the rules success is inevitable!

How many calories?
I agree. I was banded on Oct 3rd or 2007 and now have, after 3 fills, a great restriction. I eat proble between 500-800 cals max and mostly on the lower end. Never in my life would I have believed that I could even function on so few cals. but I do fine. If I eat anymore I would have to increase my fat consumption or carb consumption-- and would feel a little sluggish. I concentrate on protein since I only eat three very small meals and only have limited room. I love that I get full so quickly and it last so long. I'm losing weight steadily but not too quickly. Probably about 3+ pounds per week.

over 8 weeks out
December third was 8 weeks down about 41 pounds since starting and 2 fills. The first fill gave me some restriction but still not enough. The doctor but put in some fill and took some out. I now have much better restriction. almost perfect put I can still ea bread and take big pills. However I get filled pretty quickly. Tight in the morning as well. Having this band has made such a big difference in my life not only do I look much better but I feel much better. Even better than that I enjoy getting rid of big clothes. I never realized how big they really were. I can now buy clothes and if they are a little tight I now in a week or two will fit perfect.

Bandsters who have taken a cruises, Please Reply
I went to the bahamas exactly 1 week after surgery- on pureed foods . They pureed everything for me. I did not have any sweets only sugarfree treats but it was wonderful--pureed lobster and steak... what a way to get off liquids.

2nd fill, finally feel something
I just had my second fill 3 days ago already able to eat solids and have been pretty hungry. I do seem to fill a little quicker. The doctor putin 2 the first fill then at first 1 cc the second fill felt fine to me but he said it was tight so he removed half a cc. hopefully it will tighten up a little more for me. The nurse also suggested that I only put a small portion on my plate and see if that will satisfy me with out the stuffed filling I'm going to do that my next meal since I already progressed to solids. I kind of regret that the liquids and mushies didn't work as well as the last time for me because I usually lose quite a bit of weight when I'm on liquids but all in all I believe I only consumed about 600 calories max today.

1 week out
:clap2::clap2:here I am about 1week after surgery in a few hours and I can finally have thickened liquids instead of clear liquids I never thought I could get so excited about broth and potatoes. I can also start walking 30 min at a slow pace. Still having pain in the shoulder and was beginning to get pretty hungry so I believe the thicker liquids and the walking will help both ailments. I leave for a cruise to the bahamas on thursday so I'm least glad my diet has improved or graduated a little.

finally
Seems like after I got a date for surgery October 3, 2007 everything is going pretty quickly. I have put myself on mostly liquid diets off and on for the last 3 weeks just to see if it was tolerable or not. It hasn't been too bad. Sept is the month for nearly every birthday and even my anniversary so I did allow myself to enjoy a few days of celebration. But now I have to do the clear liquids per the doctors demands for the week prior to surgery and also no motrin or excedrin or any pain releivers except tylenol. It has been rough. My headache only dulls with tylenol and I never thought I could be soooooo hungry. However I can do all things through Christ who stregthens me. The protein shakes that I was doing aren't listed on the dr list of drinks only glucerna or slimfast so they dont seem to be as filling. I will however survive. Just be glad to have it done.

just getting started on the journey
Its been already a long process and I realize I'm just getting started. I began feb of 2006 with the physicians assisted weight loss program at memorial in chattanooga, tn. I lost around 32 pounds prior I had lost about 13. Never even considered surgery until I saw so many others having in a looking great. When I found out about the lapband and how safe it appeared to be, I decided maybe--then right as I was beginning to fully commit. I hit a snag with insurance needing weight records for the last five years. I had been so depressed from my being overweight that I did not allow doctors to weigh me for many of the 5 years. Just as I was beginning to except not having the surgery found out that there was miscommunication and that because of my bmi my high blood pressure my prediabetise I did qualify but I would have to have a physc evaluation from the doctor of my insurance choice. I did that long test and now I'm waiting going on three weeks for the results so that my much delayed surgery can be schedualed. I'm afraid that with all the ups and down of everything that I will gain weight while waiting so I decided just tonight to begin my excersise plan just as if I already have been banded and to go back to eating exactly how the nutricianist taught me so that when I am approved there will be no delays at all and I'm a creature of habit so I need to continue to build on the good habits I learned last year and not slip so easily back into the bad. Hopefully this journal will help me become more accountable for my actions.
