Why do people say Revision patients lose slower
yvimac1 replied to PrincessErin's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Omg! I don't feel alone anymore! I had a horrible time with the Lapband. Put in 2007, don't even know what kind it was. 1st time I went to get it filled port was flipped; surgery again! Went to get it filled again band had a leak:(; surgery again!! Fixed!! Had to wait longer to get filled because of possible tissue damage, then what do u know surgeon moved:( new surgeon filled me once. Then my insurance was cancelled. For a year it was fine and I got insurance again then all of the sudden I couldn't eat anything or even drink anything. The band slipped really bad made my stomach to the shape of a mushroom. The new surgeon replaced the band with a new band, it was supposedly an even better band. Yeah rite!!! Got my 1st fill no problem went to get second fill when they checked to see how many cc's was already in the band there was nothing in there! Band leaked out!!!! Doctor said I had to get an upper GI. I was so mad, sad, disappointed u name I had it! My sister and I got it done at the same time and she has never had a problem. I left that place didn't go back. Forward a year or two; I went to another hospital because I was in my 2nd trimester of pregnancy and having complications not caused the the band had to tests done they told me I needed to get the lapband removed because it had slipped! Had to get it removed by the doctor that put it in (2nd doctor which BTW has a god complex). Finally in mid 2012 he removed the band after a couple of months after having my baby! Woo hoo or so I thought! Turns out the self proclaimed wonderful doctor left the tubing inside! In the beginning I had no problem with the tubing, but little by little I started having stomach pain drs were uncertain that it was the tubing because it's designed to be in the stomach. The pain became consistent to the point of not being able to take deep breaths in order for me to breath I had to press down hard on the area of pain . There was no way in hell I was going back to the "god complexed doctor" I decided to go to the hospital where I had my son. I was dying had emergency surgery by the weight lose surgeon "my hero" Which BTW will be performing my RNY if god permits. And here I am......ready for my next chapter!what do u guys think? -
I regret it too! Could you believe it never actually got it filled! They went in my stomach for something Lapband related no lie about 7 times. I lost 70lbs once only because I spent 3 hours a day at the gym! When did u get it put in and how long ago have u had it in

I have started to change what I eat little by little, I do use the fitness pal but not as often as I should. I have not put in 100% because I am scared of being denied by my insurance.

Why are you getting the band removed. I got it removed because it never actually worked I had a lot of problems the whole time. A true nightmare!!!!!

Hi Scylla, I live in the city of Chicago, my doctor is Dr. Hungness, the surgery will be at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in downtown Chicago. I was not given a date. According to my calculation I'm having my surgery some time in April just because of the 6month weight management program thing, but he told me that his office would be submitting my claim now. It would surprise me if I get denied; it can go either way now! Have you started to change your eating habits?
-
Hi Jess805, why did you get denied? You want the Lapband done?
-
Hello Scylla! I'm also in Chicago and I'm getting gastric bypass. What are you getting? Who's your doctor/ hospital? I Started my journey in November 2013, today I saw my surgeon for the final consult.
-
I saw my surgeon today he said that because I've already had the Lapband and now I'm getting gastric bypass it's a revision. The surgery is going to be of a higher risk, longer and I'm going to be staying in the hospital for a longer period of time. I'm still planning on going through with the surgery. I turned in my documentation from my primary, cleared by the NUT, psych eval and 2/3 NUT classes. Dr. said they were going to submit the claim with my insurance. I haven't finished the 6 months supervised diet can I still get approved? So I guess it a waiting game now!!!!!

Hi, Sophia......., I'm decided that I am going tell ppl when and if they ask me. Mainly because there is nothing to be ashamed of. I know I have a problem and I'm forced to look into and deal with it! Honestly having surgery is only going to prolong my life. I know people including family are going to talk s**t, and I don't care. I'm doing it for my kids and I.

I also have BCBS of Illinois and GBP is not covered in my policy due to my job. I also have the medical card that does cover it
-
I had the shrink eval., 2 with nutritionist, blood work like checking for cholesterol, blood cells, and cleared by my primary
-
I see the surgeon for the final consult and to turn in my primaries documentation so I guess it just a waiting game now. Even though I haven't finished my 6 month weight management program they are going to submit to my insurance.

I only have wonderful things to say about NWH. My surgeon literally saved my life, due to the last complication I had with the Lapband!!!!
-
Thanks! Where are you getting it done at? I'm having mine done at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. When did you start the program? I started in November, so I have a while to go. I have to see my surgeon for the consult Feb. 25 2013 don't know what to expect.

Omg do I need it!!!! Like most people in sure, I've got so many what ifs in my head along with what am I going to do situations! Like what am I going to do with my 2 yr old when he wants me to carry him, play with him and all the other stuff that comes along with the terrible 2s! He doesn't know what's going on. Insurance? Should I tell people like family, friends and even strangers? And what supplements or what brands should I get? Correct work outs? Recipes.....etc!!!!

Hello everyone! I'm new to this, from Chicago Illinois. I am in the middle of the 6 month monitoring process in the weight loss program at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. I'm so scared that my insurance will deny me! All my life I've struggled with my weight and tried every single diet losing some weight and gaining even more. On 2007 I had the lap band done. It did nothing for me always had a problem; slippage, not connected, flipped port you name it; it happened to me! Best wishes to everyone on their journey!
