    March 2014 Sleevers

Hi all, my surgery is on Tuesday 3/25. How are all the other March sleevers doing?
  2. I know everyone's rate of weight loss is different. I've lost 10 pounds in the 2 weeks since my surgery. Is that average? I feel like it's on the slow side. I'm only consuming 600-800 calories a day and walking every day. How is everyone else doing?

    pre-op and starving!

You can do it!! You are in the home stretch!! I started feeling less starved around day 4-5. I bought some herbal teas- some of them have great flavor and break up the monotony. Plus, warm liquids made me feel more satisfied for whatever reason!

    Rate of weight loss

Thanks! I know I'm too focused watching the number on the scale!

Enough of the super sweet protein!

I hear you on the sweet drinks!! Blah! Have you tried cream of tomato soup? Campbells made with fat free milk is 10 grams of Protein per cup. I've been drinking that every day! Wegmans has a chicken broth that is 4grams of protein per cup and only 30 calories. I also put a spoonful of plain greek yogurt on sugar free Jello. It cut's the sweetness and it's sort of like whipped topping (not according to anyone else in my family...lol) Definitely going to try taco seasoning in my greek yogurt too!

    first Dr visit today

Hooray! Congratulations! My surgery was 3/25 and I've lost 10 pounds consuming between 600-800 calories a day. Is your calorie intake more/less? I see the doctor this afternoon and hope to be cleared for Stage 3. Do you feel any restrictions when eating? I've been able to eat yogurts on Stage 2, but haven't ever had any restrictive feelings when eating or drinking. This is probably a good thing, but it seems like most people do have some restrictive feelings when eating/drinking. I am so worried about stretching my sleeve out move to regular eating.
  7. Coffee! I'm only 2 weeks post op, but I thought I would really have a hard time without my cup of joe! My husband and I would always get up a have a cup (or several cups!) of coffee early in the morning before we woke the kids up. I've been drinking decaf green tea instead and having a warm cup of something to wrap my hands around seems to fulfill my fix!

    Protein option

Good info. I do remember my nutritionist saying our bodies can't digest more than 30 grams of protein at one meal, so it might be a good idea to split it into 2 shots! I've also found that if I mix in a tablespoon of SF pudding powder or SF flavored coffee creamer into my protein shakes it cuts the whey after taste.

    Surgery is in four days!

Going to sleep under anesthesia is pain free. I did have pain afterwards but it's kind of a surreal experience with the pain medication and I kept falling back asleep. I felt some discomfort the next day, but nothing significant. Best of luck to you!

THIS is how the first 4 weeks go...

Great post! I'm two weeks out- yesterday was the first day I felt like my normal energy level was returning! Walking is so important, no matter how slow you go!

    Walking

I've been doing between 15-30 minutes a day. Today I did 40 minutes on the treadmill at the gym!

Newbie here, 3 weeks post op

Welcome! I'm just shy of two weeks post op. I have a very hard time with the shakes too. The easiest ones for me are the Atkins Advantage and the No Sugar Carnation Instant Breakfast mixed with fat free milk. They are 13-15 gms a serving. My doctor allows yogurt and cream Soups on Stage 2. So greek yogurt and tomato Soup have been my friends during this stage. My 2 week follow up is Wednesday and hopefully I will get the green light to move to pureed foods! Kim

    4 months, down 88 lbs

    Inspiring! Good work
  14. I my NUT advised no popcorn for at least one year out. She said the kernel pieces, like the ones that get stuck between your teeth can actually get stuck in your sleeve. Ouch! I would suggest keep moving around and drinking your fluids. Don't let one bad day get you down!

@@lindwalt I'm still 4 days out, but I've read others say to cut carbs when you hit a stall and try to reach 800 calories a day - are refried beans high i carbs compared to chicken? Also focus on your non scale victories....down 2 pant sizes...woo hoo for you!

    March 2014 Sleevers

We seem to be living in a parallel universe because I just read your post and felt like I was reading my own. Sleeved the same day, same pain, same response to trying protein! The pain on my left side is so intense though that I could not possibly be back to work. At rest it is non-existent, nut when I move about I want to cry out. How can this pain be worse than it was 2 days post-op? Baffling. On a happy note, down 13 lbs since pre-op diet/7 since surgery so that's exciting. Not regretting anything, but surely ready to be out of pain and off meds. I wonder if you're suffering from gas pains? They put quite a bit of air into our stomachs to do the procedure laproscopically.

    March 2014 Sleevers

I came home yesterday afternoon- my surgery was on the 25th. My pain was very manageable with the pain medicine and I slept alot! I struggled with nausea alot- oh it was horrible- everytime I sat up, got up or got a medication into my IV line, my mouth got all wet like I was going to throw up. They adjusted my anti nausea medication and adjusted my bed so I was sleeping in more of an upright position. Focused breathing helped me work through it too. I haven't had any nausea since being home. YAY! It's funny everyone says don't buy your shakes beforehand because your tastes change, but when your trying to get organized before surgery and have the things you need it's tempting not too. I spent $85 at GNC on shakes (which I did use on the pre-op diet) But even the sight of the container turns me off now. My NUT said I could have greek yogurt in stage 2 (plain or spit out any chunks) I had a 5.3 oz container of vanilla chobani,,,I at it over an hour and 15 minutes But it tasted good and real! I'm having 1/2 cup tomato Soup made with skim milk, the warmth is soothing and provides 6 grams of Protein that chicken broth does not. Good luck everyone, keep posting, it's inspiring!

    March 2014 Sleevers

Thanks for all the feedback! I'm going to make a list tonight of all the reasons I'm having the surgery so I can read it when I have buyer's remorse! Off the top of my head: •I have not been able to lose and keep weight off for 10 years, but I've continued to gain •I hate sleeping with a CPAP machine - the last thing my husband sees before he goes to bed and the first thing he sees when he wakes up is either me in the mask or me with a red ring on my face from wearing the nose piece all night •I get winded bending over and climbing stairs •I want relief for my varicose veins •I want to prevent diabetes which runs in my family •I do not ever want to not be able to go on a ride with my child due to my weight ever again

That's great you don't need a pre op diet, have you lost a lost of weight otherwise in your preop phase? I've struggled with my preop too. My daughter's Girl Scout Cookies arrived earlier this week!! It's interesting how the preop diets vary so much surgeon to surgeon.

    Pre-Op Diet Hell!

I also started to feel better around Day 4. I was definitely cranky the first couple days (confirmed by my family as well ) I stopped at GNC the other day to get shakes for my post op recovery and was pleasantly surprised by all the flavors in their Total Lean line- I tried Cinnamon Bun and Key Lime pie and they were an exciting break from the choc, vanilla and strawberry I've been drinking for the last week and a half. I wish I'd stopped there sooner. You are in the home stretch, you can do this!!
