  1. Hi! I also had surgery on the 28th and have dealt with GERD/acid reflux for years prior to being sleeved. Sometimes you need to try different meds to see what works for you, maybe the protonix is not the best choice for you? I'd call my doc and see what they have to say. Good luck!
  2. Your liver will be fine and you are certainly not the only one who had some bonus food on the pre op diet. Just keep on going and you can do it! Good luck!
  3. Home after surgery 7/28. Felt pretty great in the hospital(aside from lack of sleep), but now I feel like I've been hit by a truck. Very sore at incision sites and all over. Also, have to say thanks to McButterpants-very good advice to "never trust a fart". Enough said.
  4. It seemed as if it would never get here, and yet tomorrow is my surgery day. Last week I was so anxious, but for the past 3 days I've just had this feeling that I'm right where I need to be. I'm so grateful to have this opportunity to regain my health and reset my relationship with food. Good luck to all!
  5. Thanks, everyone. Surgery went well and I'm so relieved and grateful.

    Simply amazing! Congratulations.
  8. I found "The Emotional First Aid Kit" by Cynthia L. Alexander helpful.

    NSV.. With cows!?

Looks like fun! Good for you-great NSV!
  11. My deepest sympathy for your loss. I lost a son to cancer in 2012, so I know what that pain feels like. You made the best decision for yourself, it is your body and your life and you get to decide what will give you the best chance at living the healthiest life. I wish you success and peace.
  12. Good for you, John! So nice to hear of your success so far. Much happiness to you and your family.
  13. Good luck to you! I'm right behind you on July 28th.
  14. I just had to share because you guys are the ones who know how exciting/scary this day is- just came from my surgeon's office and I'm scheduled for July 28th! I put it off until the end of July for a few reasons, but that date will insure that I can celebrate my special needs daughter's birthday with her(she looks forward to it all year), take a mini vacation to recharge my batteries before the pre op diet and try to set myself up for success. After all the months of testing, whoop, there it is.

    Pre op

There seems to be a lot of variation in duration and type of pre op diets, but as I'm on day 2 of mine I can tell you what I'm doing. I have 3-4 shakes a day made with a protein powder that has 100-200 calories/serving and 5 grams or less of fat/sugar/carbs and over 15 grams of protein. I can mix it with water/skim milk/ unsweetened almond milk and am also permitted to add fresh fruit. For dinner I'm supposed to have a meal with 4 oz of lean protein/1/2 c. starch/1 c. cooked veggies(Not peas, corn or lima beans). I am allowed raw veggies to snack on. I'm not going to lie, today was tough, especially when I had to go grocery shopping. Other folks say it gets easier after the first 4 days and I'm counting on that! Good luck to you!
  16. Oops, I'm scheduled for July 28 , not July 2 which makes no sense.
  17. I just went to a pre op meeting(scheduled July28) and we were given a kit from Lovenox. We were told that for a week post op we will be injecting ourselves daily with it to prevent clots. I've had these injections before after another surgery and they really aren't bad. My surgeon said that all other complications he can fix, but a clot is what people die from and he does everything he can to prevent that. We have to do our part too, walking and using the medication. Seems a small price to pay for a good outcome.
  18. If you don't want the sleeve, don't get the sleeve. Maybe it isn't the answer for you, or maybe not yet. I'm looking at it as risk vs. benefit- the potential benefit of the surgery(and lifestyle changes) far outweighs the risk of actually having the surgery. I'm already having significant health issues from my weight, have tried everything with varying levels of success and always gained back more than I lost. It's time for me to get healthy and I believe that I've found the way for me to accomplish that. My doctor is skilled, I've been tested 9 ways from Sunday and I'm as ready as I can be. Am I scared? Of course, but I'm more scared that I won't be able to accomplish the psychological changes that need to happen. Either way, whatever you decide, I wish you well.
  19. You should be proud! Congratulations!
  20. You look wonderful and so happy! Good for you!

    July 28 Sleevers

Hi! I'm scheduled for July 28th also. One thing that has me a little nervous though(besides the obvious) is that my paperwork isn't being submitted to insurance until this Monday. I finished everything June 6th, but they keep telling me it will be plenty of time. Hope they're right!
  22. I want to hold my daughter close(without my belly in the way), walk my big, goofy dog without my knees killing me and take an Equestrian Adventure trip with my BFF. Oh yeah, and cross my legs comfortably for the first time in 30 years!
  23. Good luck to all of you having surgery tomorrow! Here's hoping for smooth sailing on your way to a healthy new you. Planning on joining you on the losers bench next month.
