    Love my "backyard"

So beautiful! How fortunate you are to live in such a lovely part of the country and get to see it from the saddle.

Not gonna eat over it. Nope. Not gonna do it.

Great attitude! I'm also going through a difficult divorce and I'm determined not to let all of the stress make me revert to my default setting of eating my problems away. You keep up the good work and stay fierce!
  3. Hi, Jay 15 I'm about 2 weeks behind you, but I know what you mean. I'm meeting with my nut next week and am going to get specific guidelines about calorie and daily carb intake. You do need some carbs in your diet, they just have to be good carbs and not the junk that we used to eat. There's a ton of good recipes and information on bariatric foodie.com and theworldaccordingtoeggface.com, but I'd suggest that you meet with your nut and get a plan that's right for YOU. Good luck and don't give up! You can do this!!
  4. I know that I'm only just beginning, having had my surgery exactly 3 weeks ago(July 28), but I'm so excited I just had to share. I'm down 30# from my highest weight, just had my measurements redone by my trainer and I've lost 12 1/2" and I feel great! So far, I'm thrilled with the changes both psychologically and physically. I think that Sleevie and I have a bright future ahead. The information and support from this website have been invaluable- thanks to all.
  5. Thanks to all of you who were kind enough to reply and/or like my post. I know that I have a long way to go, but I'm headed in the right direction and really feel as if I've got all of the tools that I need to make this happen for me. It's been wonderful reading so many success stories along with the people who were brave enough to post their complications and problems. I truly am so grateful for this forum and for contact with fellow sleevers, as well as for the care I've received from my surgeon, nutritionist and office staff. Can't wait until its time to post some before and after pix:)
  6. Oops, some how got an emoticon instead of July 28. That was my surgery date.
  7. Good for you! I'm a July 28th person, too.

    Sleeves Are Like Cats

This is one of the funniest and most accurate descriptions I've read here. Thanks for sharing!

  10. Hi- I think that the best thing that you can do is what you have done, reaching out on this site and asking for reassurance that you are not alone with your fears. You have already done a very brave thing, pursuing and having your surgery. Now we just stick to the guidelines set for us and we WILL have success. I'm only about a week ahead of you, so no great expert, but it looks as if you're doing great! If you're healing well and feeling a bit better everyday, that's success! If you feel that the number on the scale is going to cause you more anxiety, I'd put the scale away and just weigh yourself once a week. Wishing you all the best!
  11. Hi all! I was sleeved 7/28 and feel pretty terrific. Had my 2 week post op nutritionist appt today and got cleared for Stage 3(fork tender foods). Came home and ate a 1/4 c of tuna with light mayo and it was sheer bliss! I'm down 30# from my highest weight and she told me that the expectation is to have lost 10% of your highest body weight in the first month post op. I've already exceeded that in the first 2 weeks. Love my sleeve! So glad that I did this, even though it is hard work. Good luck to all my fellow July sleevers!
  12. Hi, all! I was sleeved 7/28 and just had my 2 week post op appointment with the nut. I'm down 30 # from my highest weight! got cleared for Stage 3(fork tender foods)

    My VSG Journey

    Congratulations on your approval!
  14. You look amazing! So happy to read about your success and see it in pictures. Your responses to posts are always thoughtful and informative and it's nice to put a face(and lean body) with the name. Good for you and thanks for sharing.
  15. Bariatric advantage caramel chewables- started them on day 4 post op after clearing it with nut. They're quite tasty and it's nice to have something to chew.
  16. Hi, Bobby. Congratulations on jumping through all of the hoops and having your surgery scheduled. I had mine on July 28th, about 2 weeks ago so it is all pretty fresh in my mind. Got to the hospital as requested at 7:30 am, registered with admissions(this was quick) and went to the surgical waiting room. Got called back pretty quickly, got changed, answered questions from the nurse, got IV started, spoke to the anesthesiologist and then my surgeon. This all took about an hour. I did make sure to tell both doctors that I am the type of person who has a hard time controlling nausea once it starts(I'm the one who winds up in the ER with every stomach bug) and they assured me that I would have plenty of anti nausea medication on board at time of surgery. Taken to the OR about 9:00am, they had me move from the stretcher to the operating table, get positioned comfortably, then it was lights out. Woke up in recovery with no nausea, mild pain and a morphine PCA pump( you control it). Was up and walking a couple of hours after I got to my room- with help the first time. Went to the restroom and did a couple of laps around the floor. Next day I had my leak test(a modified upper GI), then started clear liquids, kept them down well, went home. I'm doing well and feeling much better than I had expected. I wish you an easy surgery and recovery!
  17. This has been the hardest thing for me so far. I'm sitting here in pain because, yet again, I ate my scrambled egg too quickly and Sleevie is not happy. I'm going to download this app right now and thanks for the tip.
  18. Maybe it's a July 28th thing(my date too). I've found that I really need to make my meals very thin consistency and eat very slowly or I get stomach spasms and pain in my left shoulder. It's hard, because I'm hungry- not ravenous, but hungry. Protein shakes go down okay, and water no longer tastes metallic to me. All in all, everyday gets a little better. Hang in there!

    Give it to me straight.

Hi! I just had my surgery on July 28th and have been blessed with an uneventful recovery. I stayed one night in the hospital, came home exhausted but with minimal pain. I had a friend stay with me for a few days post op( single mom with a special needs daughter) and after the first day home she did very little for my care, but was great to have here for moral support. I started driving 2 days post op, as I was off of pain meds then. Once I was able to start full liquids(day 4 post op), I had a lot more energy. As far as I'm concerned, this has been much easier to recover from than previous surgeries that I've had. Now if I can just get the hang of eating slowly, I'll be golden. Good luck to you!
  20. Wow! Good for you for taking control of your life and making such a mature decision at such a young age. Wishing you all happiness.
  21. No advice as I am only 1 week post op, but I'm so glad to hear that your wife's prognosis is excellent and wish her a speedy recovery.
  22. I'm pretty sure that this is normal but just wanted to get some feedback from my peeps. I'm 6 days post op, all went well, thank God, and am on full liquids for the past 2 days on the advice of my nut. Water and cold drinks are going down much more easily, although I'm careful to take small sips and go slowly. However, my cream soups are causing stomach spasms and some are quite painful-feels like little sleevie is doing backflips and sideswipes. I'm really trying to take small spoonfuls and rest in between bites, but I'm so thrilled to have something that feels like actual food I think that I may be going too quickly. The spasms go away very quickly, and aside from incision pain I feel great. Love to hear from those of you further out. Thanks!
  23. Thanks for the replies! I think I may have figured it out- my soups were quite thick, I thinned them out, ate S-L-O-W-L-Y and did fine. Did the same with my Protein drinks and it really helped. Good luck, ThatCurvyGirl!
  24. Seriously, no one has anything to say about this? I'm not sick, don't need to call my surgeon, just want to know when other folks stomach spasms started to go away. Is it something I said?
  25. I really like Giant Sports Delicious Protein. Got it at Vitamin Shoppe after the salesperson mixed me a sample- with water and a shaker bottle-and it was edible. I've tried many brands, but this one saved my pre op diet and I still like it post op. Only tried vanilla so far, but I highly recommend it.
