    Over 300 pounds

Dozy: I started at 324. I was at 249 this morning though I haven't changed my ticket yet. I think one of the biggest challenges was to kick the exercise up a notch. I have managed to do this though through the hot summer months it was very difficult. I am walking between 4 to 5 miles per day and have recently started using an eliptical too. It really killed at first because my feet hurt from being so heavy, but it's getting easier as the pounds come off. Good luck. Sue

mona patti: The meetings in Norwood are for the Glasgow's patients - can attend before and after being banded. They have specific seminars for pre-banding. The support group is attended primarily by people that have already been banded by the Glasgow's.
  3. Don't be worried. I didn't expect it, but gained 9 pounds from surgery - Fluid retention. It will start coming off - just stick to the post op diet and you should be fine. It may take a few days to come off, but all of a sudden you'll start peeing like crazy! Good luck.

Javern: I had surgery at Caritas Norwood Hospital with Dr. Adam Glasgow. Dr. Glasgow is in a partnership called Glasgow & Glasgow LLP with his Dad. They're both very nice and caring. Their office staff is fabulous. I recommend them highly. They have monthly support group meetings too. The hospital went okay too. Good luck. Let me know if you have any questions about them. They have a support group meeting this Tuesday night. You should call and sign up for the meeting if you want to attend. I think there phone number is 781 769 5550.

    diet?

If I remember correctly, it was all liquids. They recommended sugar free carnation instant Breakfast drink made with skim milk. In addition, anything sugar free to drink. In addition, I think we could have Soup broth. Sugar free popsicles and fudgsicles too. I think that sugar free popsicles are helping keep my sanity. Good luck, and stick to it because if your liver shrinks the surgery is safer.

    OMG!!! Totally Gross!!

Hi: Pb'ing is productive burping - something comes up. Sliming is when something gets a bit stuck and your body creates this "special saliva" that's about ten times thicker than normal saliva. When you try to spit it out it comes out in a string about a foot long. It's more slimey than normal saliva, so I'm guessing that's where it got the name. It is so gross, and it's very painful too. Actually though, it kind of makes the pain go away when it's all done. I think it's what the weight loss/lap band devil does to make you eat slow, small bites, small quantities. I've heard that it happens to everyone. I read about it here on the forum before it happened, so I wasn't surprised when it happened. Good luck - small slow bites of small quantities keeps the slimey's away. Take care.

    Big Medicine

I love the show too. It started on TV last Spring. I was banded in July. They've shown 2 or 3 people that are being banded. It was very educational for me to watch. I didn't know yet about LBT so that was my pre-surgery education in addition to going to a pre-surgery seminar. I like how they show people who get plastic surgery too. It really covers the entire transition for some people that were very large. I look forward to seeing updates too. Well worth tivoing, or dvr'ing.
  8. I actually gained 9 pounds in 3 days post surgery. Then it started coming off. I could actually tell it was coming off because I suddenly started peeing like a beer drinker! Good luck. It should come off soon. Sue Magoo H-324/S-287/C-252/G-160
  9. Rain: It could be from being more active. Keep up the good work. Sue Magoo H-324/S-287/C-252/G-160

    Another easy canned meat recipe

Laura: I too like easy to make, with high Protein. I recently bought these new easier than anything meals that Hormel makes. They have some with chicken, pot roast, and turkey. I especially like the chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy. The calories are low for a complete meal, the protein pretty high, and they're very cheap. I think they're called Compleat meals. They don't require refrigeration and take 1.5 minutes to microwave. Try it, you might like it. My Daughter says they smell like cat food, but they do taste good. She told me that they don't really taste good, but that I probably think they do because I don't eat much anymore. I'm going to try your canned ham. Sounds yummmmmmmmmy! Hitting the Wall at 6 Months....

Hi Terri: A friend of mine tells me to change foods when I hit a pleateau. It seems to help. Good luck. Sue Magoo H-324/S-287/C-252/G-160

    Weighing yourself

Tanderson: You're doing so well:), I wouldn't change a thing you're doing. I am jealous of your success, although I've done well too so far. I actually weigh myself first thing in the morning, and again at night. I can remember when I would do this in the old days and the scale could be as much as 5 pounds heavier in the evening than the morning. Now it never fluctuates more than a pound between morning and night. I can remember a friend of mine who does weight watchers has a funny thing she says about people who weigh themselves too often. Something about using it for step exercises. Keep up the good work:clap2:, and screw the scale! Don't let the number change anything you've been doing, because it obviously works very well. Congratulations on your fabulous weight loss to date. Sue Magoo H-324/S-287/C-252/G-160
  15. Hi: I'm a long way from goal, but I'm curious. :cry How do you stop losing weight with the band in place? I was banded in July, didn't get a fill until end of September, and I lost every week. Do they have you eat more often? How does it work when you're at goal and don't want to lose any more weight? Congratulations if you're at goal and able to answer this question.:clap2: Sue Magoo H-324/S-287/C-253/G-160

Left shoulder pain 5 mos post op

Chantay: I get this pain in the left shoulder occasionally radiating up to my neck. The first time it happened was when I got food stuck. The pain was so severe the first time I called the surgeon and had to go to the hospital to make sure I hadn't messed up my band. I didn't ask for anything for the pain, but they offered morphine, and it helped alot. When I get this pain now it is because I have eaten something too fast. I discussed it with my surgeon. He said that it's probably that my esophogus is bothered by whatever I ate too fast. The esophogus has some nerves that run up your left shoulder to your neck. So, that's probably why it hurts my shoulder and neck. It usually passes pretty quickly when I get it now. Of course if I pay more attention while I'm eating it's less likely to occur. Good luck and please pay attention when eating, slow, small bites, you know the drill! Take care. Sue Magoo H-324/S-287/C-253/G-160

Congrats Barb. Welcome to bandland. I think you're going through the toughest stage now. Things get much better when you can eat mushies. Be patient and let everything heal first. Take care. Sue Magoo H-324/S-287/C-253/G-160

PB? Worse Experience of My Life!!!

Strawarts: Thanks for the laugh. I have sympathy for you. I've been there, and done that, luckily it's always been at home. I'd like to share that I had the pb and slime, and also got stuck all at the same time. It was a month post-op. I had eaten about 1/2 cup of tuna fish that I had mixed up with mayonaise. I had eaten the same thing the night before without a problem. In addition to the pb'ing and sliming, I also got this god-awful pain in my left shoulder and neck. My daughter thought I was choking to death after I made the mistake of trying a sip of water that was too big on top of the stuck tuna. I thought I was going to drown standing at the sink in my own kitchen! Then I thought I might be having a heart attack. It was so bad I called the surgeon and went to the hospital. They made sure that I hadn't messed up my band. I didn't ask for it, but they gave me morphine for the pain in my shoulder and neck. Since that time I found out that there are some nerves running along the esophogus up through the shoulder and neck. These nerves can get irritated after too much pb'ing and sliming. I guess this is the bands way of telling us to slow down, chew, chew, chew, chew, and don't eat more than a 1/2 cup. It's too bad that formerly being 160 pounds overweight and living carrying around all of this excess weight wasn't enough that I have to go and get a band and that band has to remind me every once in a while that I shouldn't eat too much. Anyway, in conclusion, I love my band most of the time (down 71#), but I have hated it a few times too. Take care. Sue Magoo H-324/S-287/C-253/G-160

    how are you all doing?

Hi Sybaritic01: I was banded on 7/26. Doing well. Down 35 since banding, but 71 overall since I started dieting three months before banding. I still miss overeating, but that's in my head, not in my body. I'm exercising alot - 4.5 to 5.5 miles per day walking. Some good things are happening....closet with three sizes in it, down to lowest size, need to buy new clothes soon. Silly things, like I don't have to sit down to put on socks and underwear. Can almost touch toes without bouncing, but not quite. Going for second fill on Friday. Hope to be filled anyway, because I'm hungry. Keep up the good work. Sue Magoo H-324/S-287/C-253/G-160

    Fat Free Half & Half

Maria: I use it twice a day with coffee. I couldn't give up the flavoring in the coffee. I'm probably not supposed to:rolleyes, but I've been successful so far - down 71 :)since end of April, banded on 7/26. Good luck. Sue Magoo H-324/S-287/C-253/G-160

    Banded 7/20/07

Misskitten: Based on others that I've read about online this is not normal. You may have some unusual swelling. I would call the doctor if you're not keeping liquids down, but otherwise, give it a few days. Hope things improve soon. Sue Magoo
  23. Hi Wannabthin: I've just reached the 70.5 mark of weight loss. I started dieting at the end of April because my bmi was just over 50 and my surgeon doesn't band anyone whose bmi is 50. I got banded at the end of July 2007. I've lost 70.5 in total as of today. I eat three small meals (even smaller since I got my first fill last week) and I usually have a yogurt in late afternoon to hold me over until supper. I eat sf popsicles and sf fudgsicles at night. I also make a snack of crystal light iced tea by adding crushed ice and lemon and eating it with a spoon. Sometimes instead of the iced tea I have the lemonade. I exercise every day. I walk between 4.5 to 5.5 miles per day during the week and at least 3 miles per day on the weekends. I have a long way to go but I feel that I've had a succesful start. Good luck and soon you willbethin! Sue Magoo H-324/S-287/C-253.5/G-160

    Banded 7/20/07

Hi Misskitttin: I've lost 33.5 since banded on 7/26/07. I'm exercising alot and was feeling hungry until I had my first fill. I got filled last Wednesday and I've lost 5.5 since then! Good luck, and remember we didn't put it on overnight, and it's not coming off overnight. Sue Magoo H-324/S-287/C-253.5/G-160
  25. Hi everyone. I thought i'd get filled today, but no luck:rolleyes. Doctor says weight is coming off nicely so no fill yet. I go back in two weeks. Problem - I'm getting hungry and have been eating more in the past week than I think I should. I am still losing though. I feel like I'm the only one not filled yet. Anybody else out there banded in July and not filled yet? H-324/S-287/C-267:clap2:/G-160 Anxiously waiting for fill. Sue Magoo
