    Craving coffee

I was told no coffee at all. Caffeine can dehydrate you and it is also an appetite stimulant.

    Fruit?

I'm not sure about apples but my NUT said that 10 grapes would be a serving of fruit. (for pre-op)
  4. I am really not sure. I meet with the surgeon next week and plan to ask him about it. Maybe it helps when you are put under?
  5. I was just diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea last week too! I was SUPER freaked out/depressed about it until Friday when I got the actual results back in the mail. Turns out my AHI events were 36 an HOUR! I read that and it snapped me out of being depressed/freaking out. I realized I am glad this is happening now so I can be better. The NP also told me that it's better to be diagnosed with this now because it will make surgery easier for myself and them. All in all getting the apnea taken care of is a good thing. From what I understand you will get a better nights' sleep. I have also heard that you will be happier and less tired throughout the day. Good luck!

    Protein Drinks

I tried the Premier shakes from Costco and the chocolate ones got so thick it was like drinking gravy. I just tried the Pure Protein shakes and those were SO much yummier! I got the frosty chocolate and vanilla creme flavors. There is also a cookies and creme and strawberry creme I haven't tried. You can get these at Walmart. They have 35g protein and 4carbs/1sugar. I highly recommend these over the Premier shakes.

    Protein Shakes

I just found the Pure Protein ready made shakes from Trader Joe's. They are AWESOME! I like them better than the Costco shakes. They have 3g of sugar, 1g carbs, and 35g protein. Both the chocolate and vanilla shakes are really good!

    commitments

I think it's GREAT that you are making commitments in baby steps! I think if you try to do it all at once it could get overwhelming. Thankfully I have been trying to do the same thing. Some days are good and some days are bad....really bad. But I know I gotta take things meal by meal, sometimes hour by hour to try to get through the day. If I were to do everything all at once it would freak me out and I would go the other way and binge eat.
  9. So I had my sleep apnea test last night (it was a take home deal). Well the results I got this morning were that I have severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). So I am going to have to go in and get the cpap machine and take some classes on its use. I am SO upset and have been just in a terrible state since getting the results! I talked to the np and he told me that this will delay my surgery for a FEW MONTHS! I am devastated! Has anyone else been through this? What am I supposed to expect? I have always heard that the machines are annoyingly loud and its hard to sleep with them because they are so loud. On top of it, we are supposed to be following a strict 1200 calorie a day pre-op diet and eating certain food groups at certain meals and weighing and measuring. I have been so upset today that I have been non-stop eating! Of course all I am eating is crap but then I am beating myself up for it! I feel like I am in this vicious cycle today! What do I do?

    HELP ME!

Thank you Angelface! I never looked at it that way, that it could save my life. I asked the np if the sleep apnea would go away with weight loss and he said that if I had moderate or mild apnea that it would likely go away. He was saying that he couldn't tell me for sure since skinny people can have apnea too (he has it and he is skinny). So....I am going to check with sleep department. I have two classes next week with them where I will get a cpap for a week. I have to bring it back after that week and they will go over the data from that machine with me and I will either get a machine there (if my insurance covers it) or I will be given a prescription and a list of vendors.

    No Pre-Op Diet?

I keep reading that most people are on liquid diets. My doctors only require us to eat better at a 1200 calorie a day diet. So we can get used to eating protein first, chewing, lose weight, and weighing out our food/counting calories. I guess every doctor is different!

    Why VSG

    All of your lists rock!
  14. I have a couple of questions. During the pre-op phase, did anyone have strong cravings? How did you handle them? I have read a lot that the majority of people were on a 2 week pre-op liquid diet. I am on a pre-op diet as well but it is food not liquid only. It is very restrictive with certain foods at certain times and everything has to be weighed out, etc. I have been having these strong cravings for things, random foods. I am having a hard time taming these cravings and last night was the first night I didn't give in to them (which I am proud of). These cravings come randomly and are for food I don't eat everyday but it's like all of a sudden I want it and I want it so so SO bad!

    Anyone ever have second thoughts?

I was in the same position you are in cutiepie. I flip flopped and couldn't decide. I also cancelled my appointments a couple of times but always called and remade them. What helped me make the final decision was the fact that I realized that I have to love myself a lot to take this step to better myself. I just have to keep loving myself enough and having the courage to give myself this wonderful gift of surgery to better my life.

170lbs gone.. 12 months post op.

Wow! Your before story really fits my life! I am hoping that after my surgery I will do as well as you have! I have a question for you. You state you are in recovery, what do you mean by that? Are you talking about just surgery or another program?
  17. You look so happy! Congrats, you did an awesome job!

    Psych eval tomorrow morning!

I hope everything goes well for you! I have my psych evaluation in a couple of weeks and I am super nervous about it but that's also because I am bipolar. I am hoping and praying that things go smoothly. The only thing I can say is try to be relaxed (well as relaxed as possible). I think that will help a lot.

    Hello!

I have been doing a lot of the same thing! Research on YouTube, on these forums and through obesity.com forums. I was on the fence between the bypass or sleeve but I met with the np last week and he said that the sleeve would be a better option for me. I take some other medications and with the bypass they may not absorb into my system. I think the sleeve is better also because the procedure messes less with your stomach/intestines. I meet with my surgeon later this month and want to be sure I am armed and ready with as much information as I possibly can regarding the sleeve. My advice would be to talk to people you may know that have had the procedure, even those that the surgery has failed for. Get their opinions, point of views, and feelings on the procedure. It really hits home for me to talk to the people I know personally who have had surgery, to discuss their struggles and triumphs, and feelings.
  21. I am really excited that I have made the decision to change my life forever. I have enjoyed my first 2 weeks on the pre-op diet given to us (it is not a liquid diet). I look forward to my surgery whenever it happens. Although this there will be tough times to work through, I look forward to growing and changing and becoming a better person inside and out through this journey.

    Ready

Good luck mizzzmoka! I am looking forward to the day I can say the same! Try to think of it this way (instead of being nervous)...you are giving yourself a wonderful gift through surgery. At least, that's the way I see it.

Why did you choose the Sleeve?

I am pre-op but the band was never an option for me. I didn't like the idea of having a port right under my skin and having a foreign object in my body. Further when I was in my orientation class the nurse started talking about the band and that you have to go to the doctor every couple of months FOR LIFE. Also that after awhile the silicone they pump the band up with sweats out into your body. That just sounds gross to me. She was explaining about someone she knew that moved out of the country and had to fly back to the U.S. just to get her fills. This just didn't sound like the right option for me. The sleeve doesn't bypass things so there isn't malabsorption and still keeps things working they way nature intended it.

You look great! I am so happy to hear that you don't regret your surgery.

    Kaiser patients

Hi Michelle! I am not sure what Kaiser you are going to. I am going through South San Francisco. I just have my appointment yesterday with the nurse practitioner. I asked about the stay and he told me that the stay is one night but that now they are even sending some people home the same day! Don't know if this helps but that's what he told me.
