22 pounds in one month??? that sounds amazing to me! don't forget when you read posts about people losing much more than that: make sure you look at their starting weight, because the more you weigh the more you lose, but it's all proportional percentage-wise. please try not to compare yourself with anyone else, as we're all different. would you be disappointed if you read the latest best seller in 2 weeks and your friend read it in 1 week? the outcome will be the same. relax and enjoy the journey!

This is a question you should be asking your surgeon.
However, I will speak from my experience. I had what they think was a small leak 4 weeks post op. I ended back in the OR for emergency surgery, where they then couldn't find the leak because my stomach was so inflamed. I was in the hospital for almost a week, on IV antibiotics, fluids, and had a PICC line for nutrients (lipids). I was not allowed to eat anything for 5 days because they weren't sure if I would have to have an additional surgery. After a battery of tests they still couldn't determine if I had a leak or if I had an ulcer that formed on the incision line that had ruptured.
I was a rare case. My surgeon, who is beyond excellent, told me that he has never had anyone with the situation that I had. And most certainly never had anyone with a leak so far out from surgery. He and his team were quite concerned for my well being and have been great with their follow up care.
Now, almost 6 months after I was sleeved, I am healed and healthy and am already surpassing their goals for me at this stage in the game.
Please talk extensively with your surgeon and/or his team about your concerns and questions regarding this surgery.
    Best of luck to you!!

Before surgery, I would go to a chain restaurant for lunch and order one of the specialty burgers, you know the one, a half pounder with melted cheese dripping down the sides, a slab of bacon nestled on top, some kind of flavored mayo concoction to push the flavor over the top, then to make it "healthy", lettuce, tomatoes and onions for color. Oh wait,, don't forget the pile of fries just in case you were wanting for more. I remember biting into that buger while greasy juices slipped through my. fingers, and chomping into it like it was my last meal, oh and don,t forget the fries, plenty of ketchup too. I remember leaving many a restaurant in a semi food coma and my gut just about to bust. But, I got my moneys worth.
But now, although I'm only a little more than a month since surgery, I can't even imagine getting more than a bite or two down before the sleeve sent me a warning. I will definitely be concious of wwhat I eat, but I'm begining to trust the sleeve and I can work together to keep me from becoming hypnotized by food that I don't need, probably dont't want, and get very little nutrtion from. So trust your WLS tool, it rally won't let you over eat unless you purposly work at it. Oh, and BTW, hold the fries.

I started eating salad about 3 months post op. Didn't really have any trouble with it. I don't eat raw carrots or celery as they are too tough still. I always pair my salad with a Protein - chicken or tuna. I would say try eating a very small salad (few pieces), and see how your tummy handles it. If you feel ok - next time try a little more.

I had my period the week of surgery and my surgeon didn't have a problem with me wearing a tampon. They put extra bed pads under me just in case but not once did i feel uncomfortable or uneasy about having it during surgery. So sorry you've had a bad experience in the past. But I do agree with the others...just let your doc know. No biggie.

I'm super excited and VERY nervous especially for the open Water swim which I've already started training for. I'm also going to talk about my training on my blog: www.julissaschultz.com.
If any of ya'll out there have completed an OLY tri please message me. I would like to know what your nutrition was like during the race and would also like to hear about your experience.

I try to implement some "active recovery" to help move out the lactic AND still get a bit of a workout in.
Ex: If I do heavy/intense squats on Monday, on Thursday I'll try to go a little less on the intensity scale and also go lighter.
Monday: 5 sets of 4-6 reps to failure with usually a weight of around 415-425 or so. Along with other supporting/auxiliary lifts like lunges, straight leg deadlifts or extensions also going very heavy.
Thursday: 3 sets of 6-8 reps but not quite to failure. On Thursdays, my legs are still usually sore from Monday's workout, but I'm able to get some movement and a light workout in to help push Monday's recovery along.
Then come Monday, I'm ready for a heavy and intense lower body workout again.
One thing I've noticed over the years, the time to recover takes a little longer than it did when I was in my 20's. So I think age is a big factor as well.

From my research, I have learned about lactic acidosis. Lactic acid builds up in the muscles when we exert ourselves through strenuous exercise and can cause you to feel muscle soreness. Proper stretching post exercise can help to move the acid out of the muscles, but from what I understand, it takes a combination of a few things.
First off is proper hydration. If you are not peeing clear, you are not hydrating enough. This is critical in relieving yourself of the acid.
Proper stretching post exercise helps the circulation which again, removes the acid from your system. Stretching should be dynamic pre-exercise, not static and a combination post. If you are not familiar with the difference, Google it.
Keep moving afterward to continue healthy circulation. Some folks will rigorously exercise and then go sit on the couch. Have ever ever done this and noticed how difficult it is to get up after? Yup, acidosis.
Exercise again soon after. This is going to not only help with the circulation, but also trains your body better in the production and removal of the lactic acid. Exercising once or twice a week is going to keep yourself in a chronic state of slowly removing the acids. Keep trying to find opportunities to exercise throughout the week. You should only be taking 1 to 2 days off per week.
Massage ... goes back to the whole circulation thing. Not only will this physically push the lactic acid out of the body, but aids your circulation in it's removal, too. You can do this yourself with some of the foam rollers or the myriad of other devices out there.
Good luck and just keep moving!

    Geoff,
Had to do a double take on your surgery date. It looks like 10/2013. I assume you mean 10/13/2014.
As the others have said. First off, follow your surgeons guidelines. That being said, I have been going to the gym and doing cardio and complete weight regimens since 6 weeks PO. And I'm sure that without the workouts, this whole sleeve thing would not be working for me.
Some cautions. - I had a unbilical hernia repair during my sleeve and subsequently avoided any strenuous stomach type exercises for a few months. And when doing workouts, keep the hydration up.
Another point to keep in mind is to be able to build any muscle during the process and certainly avoid losing any while losing fat weight, you must get in your Protein. I do whatever is necessary to get in at least 100 grams of Protein a day.
At six months my weight loss has slowed alot, but my workouts have not. As I get stronger, I am able to do more and even with the low calorie diet, I need to maintain the workouts in order to keep losing weight to reach my goal. The process has convinced me that even when I reach my goal, exercise will be the only way of maintaining my weight and avoiding any weight gain. Good luck with your surgery. Keep us posted with your progress.
FYI - Check into "My Fitness Pal". Makes it easy to keep track of your diet, your workouts and your weight goals.

Your post doesn't have your weight, so it's hard to imagine where you are right now. Crossfit is good in conjunction with cardio. If you've been largely sedentary, Crossfit is going to be horrible initially, which is not a bad thing, but if you supplement it with walking, light jogging, biking or use of the elliptical, you can work on building muscle with CF, but also getting leaner with cardio. I don't tend to think that only doing Crossfit is the best option, but it can give you a great community to be part of, and social experiences when working out are a lot more likely to contribute to you being consistent with exercising than is the case of being stuck doing something entirely on your own.
    Good luck!

So for 18 days you lost 1.8 pounds A DAY!
Then your body probably said : "WHOA--wait a minute here!"
Take it one day at a time and do what you are supposed to do and your body will likely begin loosing again.
You didn't gain all your weight in 18 days did you?
It still takes time to lose it even with weight loss surgery.
    Blessings,
    Kathleen

You just need to watch the ingredients. Ive seen smoothies which contain all kinds of sugars, calories and other unhealthy ingredients. And I have seen others which are high Protein, low sugar and generally healthy.
Not all smoothies are created the same.

Last week I posted I was starting a Personal Fitness Program at my YMCA. I have seen the trainer twice now and I like it. Now, I do have to say I do not believe the trainer is quite as knowledgeable as I thought he would be. Some of his advice is not quite sound. I do understand how to exercise, I just don't do it! LOL Anyway, I am listening and learning the machines, but I kind of tweak the work out as I see. I have increased my cardio and I am now up 8 weight machines. I am actually looking forward to going back to work out. I have made a deal of sorts with myself. I refuse to beat myself up if life happens and I can't make it to the gym. But...if all I have planned is to go home and sit on my butt watching tv, then I can go work out. And so far my daughter has actually enjoyed the daycare at the Y so that helps. I am excited to see what I can do to further transform my body. I was talking to a coworker today. She said I look great, and to those who know me I have changed a lot. But to a stranger I am still overweight and out of shape. That is my new goal, to look good to a stranger on the street. Someone who doesn't know where I was, how heavy I started. Right now I am not grossly obese or anything but I am still heavy. ( clinical definition obese) I just want to be average. I am close to a year out and now I am taking control again to continue my journey...
