About Me

  1. Had my surgery May 20th and it began with comlications. The first was diarrhea. Every day no matter what I eat. I was taking prescription Imodium with Atrpoine with little success as well as Bentyl for the abd pain. I was often dehydrated. Then came the eating of solid food. Sometimes it would go down sometimes it would get stuck. If it got stuck I would spend hours retching even with nothing in there. Then last Saturday I took my first sip of coffee and because so nauseated that I dry heaved in the bathroom for 15 min, trying to catch my breath any sip of something would set it off again the next day I had an EGD which just showed a mild stenosis which he dialated and told me I have a very small pouch with some ulcers so he prescribed carafate. I'm at a loss as to what else to do. I don't like to eat anymore because of the vomiting even drinking can be painful. I'm getting more and more depressed as the days go on

Black Stools 3rd day post op

I heard it was possible too to have black stool for a bm or two after surgery but I would inform your doctor anyways. They will want to know.
  3. No it does this! I was so grateful someone showed me this. Now I make it my goal to never eat and drink together!

    am home from the hospital

That first week was rough, I'm not gonna lie. I asked myself what I was doing a thousand times. The pain goes away, your energy returns and the food and eating get better. You just have to take it one day at a time and remember why you wanted this. And use a heating pad!
  5. I am 3 1/2 weeks post op on puréed foods and it's really not that bad. My energy was low up until week 3 but I now feel relatively normal. I don't lift much even though I think I could if I needed to and there are such varieties of food out there that you can come up with just about anything in a pinch. Heck, you can even hit a Jamba Juice for a protein smoothie and no one would know you were on puréed. I think it will be ok, just get some refried beans at a Mexican place, soup at a restaurant, even Chinese you could do Egg Drop Soup.
  6. That video really helped!

    Anyone having surgery in May

I am having the same problem. I read it takes time for the intestines to adjust, especially to fats. That's why it comes out yellow. It's inconvenient let me tell you. It wakes me up at night. I read taking Imodium before bed may help I'm going to try that. I ate puréed Tuna yesterday with light mayo and spent all night and all day in the bathroom. It's getting old quick. I am 15 days post op.

Newbie with bowel issues - help?

Your story sounds exactly like mine! Had bypass May 20th and woke up in terrible pain. Spent my two days in the hospital crying and wondering what I did to myself. Continued the regrets at home another couple days as I started having diarrhea. My doc said it was not the norm but it happens and it will get better, especially as I move to more solid food. The JP drain was a big part of my pain and after it came out I felt a lot better. I just got clearance for full liquids and the diarrhea is already better. So hand in there. I've lost 20 lbs since the pre op diet and surgery. Now that I'm through the worst I'm starting to get excited about the new me!

I have had diarrhea every day as well. No pain or nausea or chills but I go a few times a day. I guess it's normal? I had my surgery May 20th and just started full liquids today.
  11. Did you get your date? Mine is May 20th.

    Anyone having surgery in May

My date is set for May 20th? I have not seen anyone else with that date here. I have a three year old that my husband and mom are going to help me take care of for the first week, then we will see after that. I start my 10 day pre-op diet on May 9th. My doctor gave me a choice between his bariatric shakes or Carnation Instant Breakfast No Sugar Added shakes. I took the Carnation because they gave us samples and they were pretty good. I'm allowed to have a small amount of fruit a day pre/op as well. Getting excited and nervous.

    Approved and Surgery date.....finally!

I got mine for May 20th can hardly wait!!
  14. Got my surgery date of May 20th. Finished the pre-op classes and now just need the blood work and EKG. How are you doing with the process?
  15. I am going to go to support groups but it's tough I have a toddler. It also doesn't seem real until I have a set date. I love that we get the gym membership and personal trainer though, you can bet I will use that! Since you get one for your spouse as well I'm making mine do this journey right along with me. I'm going to the pre-op classes at the end of March. We have BCBS and they had basically no requirements except the BMI over 40 and I'm at 43. So I hope my approval comes quick!!!
