Slice them lengthwise and rub a little oil on them and maybe some adobo seasoning,,,,,,and then grill them.......before my surgery, I never even slowed down for grilled veggies, now that carmeilzed glazed flavor on any veggie, broccoli, cauliflower, etc. is to die for.........take some cauliflower florets and toss them in some oil and herbs and grill them....yum......

Slice lengthways, scrape out the seeds, stuff w/diced tomatoes, a little mozzarella, feta, chopped basil, and top w/turkey pepperoni - then grill till zucchini is tender and cheese is bubbly. Even my hubby loves this! Delish!!!!!

So I am 5 months post op and down 90 lbs.......I also carried my weight well presurgery......trust me.....it's all worth it.....buying normal clothes and not giving your shirts the "stretch" when you put them on is priceless.being able to buy clothes that are the right length proportionate to your size is priceless.... One of the only mental hurdles I have been working to overcome is the "big guy" mentality.......those days are gone.....people will not naturally move aside for you....they won't be intimidated by your size anymore.....it's a guy thing....and certainly an adjustment.......but once you start to appreciate being "normal" and not having to worry about theater and airplane seats, etc.....it's soooo worth it.....

inittothinit got a reaction from VSGAnn2014 in when do you start getting rid of clothes?
Get rid of it.......and don't even bother investing heavily in the next few sizes down. I made the mistake of buying clothes on the way down to my target weight, not realizing that with the surgery and the drastic weight loss, sizes I thought I'd only hope I could get to, I blew past and have had to re-wardrobe a couple of times......trust that this surely works and wait till you level off"......

"a fair amount of people revise to DS from sleeve"????
Uh, HUH?????? can you support this with some facts?
and as to your question, I ended up deciding on VSG and dropped almost 50 lbs in 5 weeks and have been taken off all of my meds.......and the sleep apnea is resolved as well. Your doctor will be the best adviser, but make sure they perform all the surgeries so they are objective about which one to recommend to you.

i just want to chime in that i think this is a bigger issue than just mean doctors.
many obese people are very sensitive in general to other people's opinions, comments, criticism. we internalize these things, feel bad/angry/upset/bothered about them and then eat over them. many of us have spent years eating our feelings. but the deal is, you cant just stop feeling the urge to do this without figuring out how to stop being such a sponge for other people's crap.
we all need to have better emotional boundaries so we do not continue the pattern of taking in and personalizing other people's stuff.
like a dog, kick some grass over that shit and move on. that doctor's issues arent yours, dont take them in and make them yours... let it go and move on! dont give yourself reasons to emotionally eat.

I saw the Think Thin (before I managed to find Quest), and I was wary of the sugar alcohol as well (sugar alcohol never agreed with me pre-surgery, and I don't want to risk it post-surgery).
I do quite like the Quest though...I can only do half at a time, but they're tasty, and about perfect for after a walk or bike ride.

I would have been lost without this site. I was on early and often presurgery. Just about every pitfall and positive that I have experienced has been shared by others here. It made my journey a bit easier.
There is nothing but experience that can explain things like post surgery gas pains or the new feeling of full.......having vets that have shared their firsthand experience is invaluable. Let's be honest....the surgeon,pcp,nurses,coordinator,etc........none of them have been through this 1st hand........we have........
Now there are some subjective things like diet and exercise and results,etc........we should all be taking them at face value and applying them as evaluated to our own experiences........

I'm not going to BS you.....this is an adjustment. I was "the big guy" the intimidating looking guy.......it has certainly played on my mind over the 3 months and 80lbs down.........but when you're in the store shopping in the normal guy section and changing tshirts because the one you have on is too loose, you will be happy.......I'm ok with being a normal size now......dropping 6 pant sizes feels good.....and having people tell you how fantastic you look feels good. Am I the biggest, baddest looking dude anymore? No.......but there are so many good things that outweigh the bad......there are more things to like than having big shoulders or being the "big" guy........

inittothinit got a reaction from Mrs.RRn in Gym (lifting) frustrations
Mrs.......I am dealing with the same thing......presurgery...years ago.....big time body builder.....heavy weight ...but post surgery, all the strength is gone......remember a few things....carb loading.....we don't do that anymore....ever...it's just not part of our diet.....I'd say that accounts for 25-30 % of strength.....secondly! our age.....we are probably mzny years removed from those heyday weights....and also! it's a mass thing.....even back then! I was still 30 or more lbs heavier than my current weight.......so don't stress about the numbers...just know that any weight you lift is better than no weight.....and sldo that without the carb loading that our diets used to have, we will be comparatively weaker than we were......just keep doing what you do?..you've done well for yourself since ether weight Loss......

inittothinit got a reaction from TovaNJ in Carbs: aka, the crack cocaine of foods
I haven't had any meaningful carbs since surgery. I know what a trigger feels like and carbs are it......so just pick a food that you like don't feel addicted to( like lunch meat or nuts) and use use that for a snack in place of carbs.....

inittothinit got a reaction from #9grammy in Sleep Apnea and Sleeve Surgery
I had severe apnea for the longest time. I was tired all the time and took naps every afternoon. I went for a study about 2 years ago as a result of CAD. sleep apnea is very dangerous and contributes to coronary artery disease. I started wearing the mask and noticed a huge difference. I had VSG in February and have lost almost 50 lbs to date. the apnea is GONE. no more mask.
I believe I read somewhere that apnea resolution is somewhere around 75% for post bariatric surgery patients.

    So how funny is this?
I was reading the thread(from frozen CT) and was going to post a quippy reply along the lines of " yea ,yea but try to get a decent italian meal or restaurant in FL)"
Then it hit me like a brick....... How much my life will change on 2/24.....
The idea that food or a decent italian restaurant has been some weird barometer for me shows how much food and eating has become so central my life.
. My life and lifestyle is going to change drastically and that food and eating shouldn't be such a focus for me. Eat to live , don't live to eat, right?

Just give it time....within a few months you will be able to eat a somewhat normal portion of protein.......I am 3 months out and can eat a normal protien portion cooked in any manner. I don't stress about marinades or fats used to cook........just make sure you eat the Protein first and then maybe a few bites of veggies and lastly, carbs.......I know it's tough at first but coming from a long time chef......it gets "normal"

By the time I was through the surgery and into mushy phase, I couldn't stomach any more shakes. I advise not to stock up too much, even with a flavor or type you like.......once I could get solid Protein or even mushy protein down, I haven't had maybe but a few shakes since. I will say you should start to experiment with Quest Protein Bar flavors because they have been my go to since surgery.......

2 years out and 200 lbs down? 10 lbs from goal? I say don't take just a bite......eat it all.........a bite is just the kind of test we couldn't pass and ended up here......embrace it...own it....enjoy it.... And then get back up on the horse like you've done so well for the past almost 2 years......really.....live a bit......it's a pop tart, not heroin:)
