  1. I am scheduled for bypass Tuesday March 11 at Ruby Memorial in Morgantown with Dr. Quinlin

Hi. I hope ur sugery went well. I had my surgery 7mth ago. I'm down 91# i feel so much better. I live in Ky..but all my family is from w.va in logan and parkersburg not sure if that is by you or not.

Wow! Congrats on your weight loss! I'm only 3 weeks out, but feel much better also. Logan is South of me and Parkersburg is an hour West. We go to Parkersburg for a day out once in awhile just for a change of pace. My youngest son had knee issues when he was younger so we spent a lot of time at Shriner's in Lexington. Luckily, my cousin lived there so we had a place to stay.

  2. My work requires me to stand alot...(teaching preK). I plan to go back April 7 and am worried because even just standing in my kitchen for a short time causes my side to pull and sting. I am wondering if a compression garment will help take the bite out of gravity! Any suggestions on one that is good for the money??

  3. Everything I have tried up to this point just hasn't set well with me mostly due to taste. I love Water, but it hurt so bad I couldn't handle it. The other day my husband had to run into Panera so I had him grab me a glass of Water with lemon. It didn't seem to hurt as bad as plain water. I have noticed if I drink ice cold water with lemon it doesn't hurt at all. I was at Kroger and saw their Diet Decaf iced tea sweetened with splenda I think. Anyways, I bought it and put it on ice, waited until it got cold and was able to drink it with no problems. Hope this helps some of you that are struggling with liquids. Have a great day!!

  4. Tonight is my second night in the hospital and I am hurting. The built up gas in my belly mixed with the pain of the incisions is very uncomfortable. I haven't been hungry nor thirsty, although I am drinking sips of Water now. I started walking the hallway only 2 hours after surgery. How long before this gas passes? How long before people start to feel better?

My surgery was Tuesday March 11 and the first couple days were the worse for gas pains. I still had them until Saturday, but they weren't as bad. Once in a while I can feel a bubble rumbling around, but I barely notice and I am a week out. Just keep walking!

  5. My one week post op was today also... I have lost 24lbs in two weeks. I know it's mostly due to being on the liquid diet for two weeks, but hey, I'll take it! Got to have refried Beans with sour cream (pureed) for lunch and a strained chicken, broccoli, and cheese Soup for dinner. It's amazing how good it taste when you've been without for two weeks! Good luck to all having surgery in the past few days and Congrats to those that lived through this past week since surgery.

  6. Just got called, they moved me from 11:45 am to 7:30 am. Reporting at 6:00 am - I'm so glad, I didn't want to sit around all morning.

My was scheduled for 8:30am last week. I was very thankful not to have an afternoon appointment because I couldn't imagine sitting there waiting! Best Wishes! You'll do great!

  7. I'm 6 days post-op. I'm feeling pretty good. No pain meds. Focusing on Water intake. But I have this weird thought in the back of my head that I never had before surgery. "What if this doesn't work?" Really feel crazy over here. I'm not sure what I'm expecting but dang that thought is ticking me off and bumming me out.

I had a little crying spell this morning. Second guessing my decision and just feeling bad. I think all of these thoughts are to be expected. I also went off my pain meds, but I am very cranky and snappy today!

  8. I too am having a hard time with fluids... I just don't want them. I really just want to go to sleep and wake up in a month or so! Trying to stay positive! Tried sugar free Tang and it was a nice change from regular Water. I do not like flavored waters so I'm glad to have found something I can tolerate. Hot tea is a lifesaver! Instead of taking life one day at a time, I have changed it to one sip at a time! Now what to do about "itchy belly"??

I have an itchy belly too. I've used ice packs when it's really bad since we can't put anything on it. I've had no issues with liquids other than I'm really thirsty so it's hard not to gulp. I'm getting my 64 oz easily. Just still really thirsty.

I never thought about putting ice on it... I am going to have to try that! I understand what you mean by gulping... I have to remind myself to sip.

  10. I had my surgery Tuesday, March 11. I still have major pressure under the left breast, but it subsides for a small amount of time if I walk it out. I try to drink 1oz of Water every commericial break. It's a long slow process. My life right now consists of drinking Water, broth, sleeping, and passing gas! I am very paranoid over every strain, pain, and gas bubble that presents itself. By mid afternoon, I get a "weak" feeling and try to get down as much warm broth as possible. I don't know if it makes a difference or not, but I like to think that it does. Tomorrow will be one week since my last bm. Doc does not seem to be concerned. I see him on Wednesday for my one week appt so hopefully if nothing has happened he will give me something for it. Congrats to all those struggling this week. It will be worth it!!!
