  1. Insurances put a lot of requirements on weight loss surgery because it is a lot of money to dish out to cover it. So gaining will reflect negatively for the insurance company because your asking basically for them to cover a weight loss surgery, and gaining is telling them in their own opinion that you are not ready. Your surgeon will possibly deny you because gaining makes the surgery way risky because of your liver. Your liver must shrink to make sure that when they move it, it will not bleed. If it bleeds it complicates the surgery by a ton. They would have to actually open you up to do the surgery. I would write a letter or get in touch with your insurance agency and tell they your predicament you are in with being off such medicine and talk with your primary care physician about a most effective way to loose weight and being off the med you were on. Hopefully you can get this all fixed up so you can get the surgery. Insurances are a real pain sometimes. Best of luck! I am cheering you on, you can do this!
  2. I am ten months out and I drink on occasion 1-3 cups of coffee depending on the day or week. Some weeks or months I can go without. Unlike today, this is a three cup day. Stayed up way to late last night. What I do different than what I use too is use fat free creamer and a splenda packet. After drinking coffee I normally drink A LOT of Water like over 64 oz. I would just listen to what your gut says, coffee that early for me made me sick. It took me up till nine months to finally get back to drinking coffee again, but not on a regular basis.
  3. Congrats!! You look awesome! Keep up the the good work!
  4. The bariatric clinic I went too has a requirement that the patient must loose five pounds before surgery, also your insurance will sometimes demand such requirements as well to pay for the surgery. The doctor there had me start the liquid/product diet a good month and half before the surgery. I lost a total of 30 pounds before surgery. I started at 397 and surgery morning I was 367. All they want you to do is to shrink your liver, and the best way for that is by loosing weight. Shrinking your liver makes it way easier for them to get in there to do the surgery. If the liver doesn't shrink it makes it way harder for the surgeon to do the surgery and the possibility that the liver will bleed when they pick it up. A bleeding liver is not good at all. My suggestion would be to stick with the diet they have you on and the surgeon will be happy with any weight loss you do before surgery. Over all it makes it easier on them and you as well. Wishing you the best!
  5. I can't stop laughing because I have run into awkward questions like that. I am extremely sarcastic so usually without hesitation I would say something off the wall and not expected which I love their reaction to it.
  6. I have found out first hand some women are just catty b*tches, and your better off having friends who will push you and be motivated with your journey. I have rid of toxic friends especially some women in my life who were jealous that I was losing weight faster than they, or couldn't wrap the idea around their heads that I will not be the fat friend anymore. I had one friend of mine actually told me to my face that even though I am losing weight I will never get a man. I was like really? Buh bye dear was my reply back to her. Men can also be just as bad as women at times which is weird to think that. Congrats on your weight loss, and let the haters hate, move on and be beautiful and continue your journey! You got this girl!
  7. I have been and in your position right now. I have been up and down the scale now for a month and slowly loosing like pound or two. I just have fifty to go to reach my goal. Stalls are normal, I would contact your physician or NUT to help you get out of the stall. That's what I have to do. I know my problem is that I am not eating and also when I do eat I snack. Good luck, and I know your stall will break soon!
  8. I love popcorn like everybody else does in my family. For Christmas last year my parents bought me an air popper which I love. When I feel like I need to snack usually its on the "time of the month" I usually pop some popcorn. Only things I put on it is either little bit of olive oil or sesame oil and sea salt. I cant go to the movies without contemplating for five minutes in the lobby if I want or need popcorn. Usually after the five minutes I walk away and go see the movie. Only a few times I have bought myself popcorn.
  9. It took me up to about 50 pounds to really notice a difference in my pant sizes. Top size went down a lot more dramatically than the pants. Right now I have lost 145 pounds and still in a 18/20 and size XL shirt. I have a pannis that has gotten a lot smaller but Spanx is my best friend to help me smooth down my baggy skin so I can fit into the size 18 pants perfectly.
  10. I am 10 months out and I occasionally will have a drink here and there. Nothing in excessive amounts either. This weekend I went out with my best friend for girls night and had one beer. It settled fine till I got home then it was bad news bears later. I have noticed since I have lost 140+ pounds that I cannot drink like I used to, it hits me really fast compared to my friends who haven't had this surgery. Depending on what I drink, I do notice some change with the scale but nothing dramatic. I just drink lots of Water. I think letting us have indulgences now and then is okay rather then being super strict all the time. Being strict on yourself is stressful, I have found this out.
  11. I have to say growing up the nickname in grade school and middle school was "fatty" then in changed in High School to "Sexy Lexy" to this day I am perplexed why they gave me that name. In elementary and middle school the name calling got to me then I grew a pair magically and in high school I took no sh*t from nobody. The "sexy lexy" nickname was only in band, and was given to me from band camp. Like I said it puzzles me.
  12. Hi there! So your situation kinda reminds me of mine. I lost not 85 prior to the sleeve but I lost about 35 which is a big leap from where I started at 397. I am a slow loser. Where you are at right now your body is fighting to keep the weight on, because you where big for a period of time (I don't know your story but for me I was 397 for years) your body is used to all that insulation when you dramatically change it your body is going to fight you. I stalled out about two months out and didn't loose any weight for about a good month. Then BAM! the weight started to fall off of me. I would keep doing what you are doing, try to increase your calories to 1,000 instead of sticking around 600. I am nine months out and I still struggle with the whole making the daily calorie intake. Your doing great, keep your head up and you will get through this! It just take some time.
  13. Hi Lizzy, I am young like you are and had the sleeve (just a tad older). Anyways our bodies are going through a lot and at this time when we start to loose weight our fat cells release a lot of estrogen and hormones that it has been holding onto for years. I thought I was going bat shit crazy when I was three months out. I would cry for no reason, and get really angry real fast. I am now getting those depressed feelings, and it is completely normal to have them. I would seek some help from your medical team or better yet see a therapist about it. One way I channel my issues and what is going through my head is talking with my friends, family, and peers. With that I also started a blog to document my journey. I can tell you that has helps lot, because it gets those thoughts out of my head and holds me accountable for my actions. This shall pass soon, just remember don't give up! Best of luck!
  14. I now love Hummus now. Never used too. I don't eat bread all that much but I do eat pita bread at times. Reason why it doesn't clump in my tummy. I also use Hummus to dip my veggies in as well. I chose to watch my carbs but not go over board with going low carb.
  15. First, you shouldn't be shamed for posting such a forum because you are seeking help. I am pretty surprised by the responses on here. I am very opinionated person but I will leave my opinions on mental illness aside (which are not negative what-so-ever). You are going through a total life changing journey and you are making changes in your life that you haven't made or thought of before. I can say I have not experienced what you are going through but have come across others who got in that mind frame. So, I can sorta get why you would starting to be judgmental towards others (which is fine as long as you keep it inside of you). I have cut ties with friends prior and during this journey because they did not support me. It is rough to cut out family members. Also our fat cells hold a lot of estrogen so when we loose that estrogen gets released so BAM flood of hormones are released and can cause a lot of mood changes and such. When I was at your stage I was very touchy and emotional all the time. I am not 9 months out and I can say that I am not as emotional as I was before. Also other than all those darn hormones you are battling being bipolar which is hard, I know many with that issue. The best thing for you is what you are doing is seeing your therapist, I would suggest to have him to have your meds check on a monthly basis just to make sure that during this journey you are getting the proper care and keeping your illness in check. I wish nothing for the best for you, and best advice I can give you regarding some comments is to just ignore them and read the ones that suit you best. You got this girl!
  16. Hi! Here are my images. I started at 397 and I am now 261 working towards that first goal of 250 which is only 11 pounds away. I am hoping I will be at least close to my over all goal in three months which is to weigh 200! So far this journey has been a roller coaster but so worth it! You all look amazing! Keep up the hard work!! (this is me before the surgery) (This is me after and 135 pounds down)
  17. I made a delicious chicken fajita pizza with fat free refried Beans then topped with chicken and sauteed veggies. After that top it off with some fat free shredded Mexican cheese. Bake for 25 minutes and when it comes out put some avocado, salsa and a little bit of sour cream on it. It was so good! I had enough left overs to do them for a week for lunches.
  18. I hate hearing people say that any type of weight loss is the easy way out! It lights a fire under my butt every time to speak up and say something to them. I normally just ask people who judge "why do you think this is easy?" I wrote a whole blog about this. (check it out if you want here is the link: http://healthykayleesite.wordpress.com/2014/06/17/cheating/)
  19. When I had surgery my period started and never ended till three months later. After numerous tests and ultra sounds and a different doctor. I was diagnosed with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) Usually being heavy hides PCOS for certain individuals, I would bring it up with your OB to see what he or she says. Its never fun to have irregular periods. Hope all the best for you!
  20. The site is an awesome idea! You should set up a Facebook page, and start a gathering from that as well. I have never seen a weight loss dating site before. I am now single now and currently on OkCupid which is not a bad site. I am just chose to be upfront with most of the people I talk to or go on dates. I have meet a lot of bariatric patients on that site as well. I would do some research on how to market it through Facebook and also various other social media sites.
  21. I will not lecture because lecturing sucks. But the one thing that I have taken was Biotin that you can get from GNC which was only $9 a bottle. I take one every other day, it has helped dramatically with my hair growing, and also my nails. Also, ontop of that I get Vitamin B12 injections monthly to help protect my hair. Also I use a shampoo that helped as well, that had collagen and biotin in it, which was Organix thick and full biotin and collagen shampoo. Target sells the shampoo: http://www.target.com/p/organix-thick-full-biotin-collagen-shampoo-13oz/-/A-14462805?ref=tgt_adv_XSG10001&AFID=google_pla_df&LNM=14462805&CPNG=Unassigned&kpid=14462805&LID=13pgs&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=14462805&kpid=14462805&gclid=CIWWyq-_6L8CFQUFaQodpRcAGQ GNC for the Biotin: http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=480276&catid=183842&aid=338666&aparam=480276&kpid=480276&CAWELAID=120142990000023543&CAGPSPN=pla
  22. Everybody's tummies are different. I know I can hold roughly a little over 4 oz of food, which is fine. When I was two months out I could eat the amount I am now. Rock on with the weight loss!
  23. I am just getting out of the size 22's let me look in my closet. I have a lot of really nice clothes I need to get rid of because I work in a office setting. I have a lot of dress pants, skirts, the dresses I cant give up just yet because I still can make them look really good. I have some really nice dress shirts that are trendy and also the dress pants are as well trendy. I will let you know what I find, and post a few pictures to see if you are interested
  24. Hi there! I have had sushi with no problems. Sounds like you have a rough bout of food poisoning from having the sushi. Hope you start feeling better.
  25. I am Catholic and it took me up till I was three months out to take the sacrament. I just went up with my arms crossed and got blessed till I could tolerate the host.
