ashrn80 got a reaction from GoddessMoon in Pre op Liquid diet SOOOO hard
I'm struggling with this. I found out my surgery date (11/28) on Thursday and was told to start my pre-op diet the next day. I wasn't mentally prepared for that and I haven't been able to grocery shop. So I pretty much decided I would start Saturday and was doing great until dinner time in which case I blew it. So tomorrow I jump back in and try this again....I have come so far I will NOT fail now!

Aetna denied me for gaining weight. I had to do an appeal and I was approved then. Had surgery 1/31

I started my journey June 2013. I had to do 6 months of weight management classes. sleep study, upper GI check and pulmonary clearance. My paper work was submitted 12/13/13. On 12/19/13 got a call I was denied. I was denied because I gained weight. So I appealed it. I have arthritis and degenerative disc disorder in my lower back. So I couldn't exercise what so ever. I could barely walk and stand. So I had been going to the dr over 2 years about my back. I also have PCOS. So I got all my records from my dr about my back. And I got all my records from my obgyn about my PCOS. I wrote a letter as well. I sent all this to aetna on 12/30/13. Because of the holiday aetna didnt get my papers until 1/3/14. On 1/7/14 my denial was approved. I had surgery on 1/31/14.

This Wednesday I will meet my 6 month requirement for my insurance then all I have to do is wait for the approval to set my surgery date. I would greatly appreciate some info on a good Sleeve support group in Cincinnati, I know I cannot do this by myself.

I received notification this morning that Aetna approved my surgery. Everything was turned in last Wednesday! I'm thrilled and shocked at the same time that the approval was so quick. I was expecting it to take longer. My surgery most likely will be Feb 7...possibly the 6th. So excited!!

Either way, be careful. Everyone is different. A slow loser is still a loser. YMMV = your mileage may vary holds true for this as in most things in life.
Why the hurry? It took years to get this fat....is it reasonable to assume you will lose it quickly? Is it healthier to lose it slowly or quickly? Can you love yourself enough to do what is right and then let it be knowing you followed the rules and did your level best?
What if you are within the averages and only lose 60-70% of your excess weight? Does this mean you are a failure to you? Why? Are your expectations realistic? WLS is not a magic pill or a magic wand waved at our fatness to be disappeared.
I started at 334, lost 24 prior to surgery eating 1200-1500kcal and some exercise. Lost 22lbs in the last 20 days since Dec 24 (surgery date). The problem with you applying my numbers to you is this does not apply to any other human than me. Yay me....but, have I fixed my mental issues that go along with my weight - working on it.
Almost all of us here need to get our heads right. We are seriously f*&ked up in our fantasies/nightmares about our bodies / weight.
This sleeve is working fantastic right now for me. It too can help you. It will not cure the problem we have between our ears.....we will have to fix that to get healthy in every way.

I am having surgery January 23, 2014. I am so excited. Dr. Needlman is doing mine. OSU is a great choice. My journey went very quick with my first appointment being October 31, 2013. At this stage in your journey the best advice I can give is to be proactive. I always followed up with every appointment and did everything I could to get the appointments done as quickly as possible. I even did a few with other providers due to scheduling constraints. It is an exciting journey, I just went today and made sure I had things for my post-op. Good Luck!!!

I had those same requirements for BCBS Federal Employee. I have had the same primary physician for three years, so I just requested a print out of my medical records for the last two years and highlighted my weight for each visit and every mention of recommended weight loss or calorie restriction. Pull together all the info you can get. It is better to have too much than not enough. My insurance approved in two days....had my sleeve 12/23/2013, enjoying a textbook recovery.
