My Friends My Journey
As you can read my stats on the left over there. I'm Gastric, 4 years out. I wrote about me and my Husband today, which got me to thinking about my friends. I'll come right and tell you, I'm 54 years young. And you'd think that women my age would be soooo far past bad and catty-like behavior, not so much. My friends and I have been sitting around one table or another, or on vacation or at a Spa, for 15 years b*tching about how we should or gotta lose weight. Then!!!..I was obliterated, by my Doctor, who diagnosed me as' Morbidly Obese' and very unhealthy. The Nerve. I had a denial file (that's on another post). So long story short, I had the surgery. Didn't consult friends, no need. Just family. It was hard doing all that research over the 4 years of contemplating this surgery and not asking their advice, but this was something I wanted to be just MINE (and my husbands), and if I failed at it, I just didn't want to go threw everything it takes to make your gal pals know your ok and life goes on. I considered this a private matter. Much as I love my friends, together we are 'Drama Queens'. Its what we do..lol..drink wine, talk sh*t, check out the latest fashions, make plans for a vaca or GNO's (Girls Night Out) ..blah blah blah. Basically any social thing we can think of to be together. Wellllllll...Surgery complete, time to tell 'The Girls'. hmmmm? little bit of a shock at first..expected. Ya know??? there's always one in a crowd that rots the rest of us. I was waiting to see who it would be. And ya know what?? Its always the one you don't expect..hmmm! I really didn't expect ANY backlash from any of them, were friends for Christ sake. AND there it came, " I suppose now that your on your way to becoming a skinny b*tch, you cant hang with us"?..I was prepared, yay me. I was hoping I wouldn't have to use my arsenal of defensive scenerio's, So my come back was.."Girllll I don't remember our friendship being based on BBW (Big Beautiful Women) Club??? You betta' check yoursel!f"..and that put and end to it, thank goodness. We resume are b*tching about other stuff. So, I never had to get rid of friends, thank goodness, because if it came right down to it, I would have. My surgery means more to me that any MEAN friend. I'm hoping that all of you have supportive friends and fam. But a lot of us don't. So prepare yourself before hand, with as much dignity and tact as you can muster, just in case you have a MEAN family/friend moment ..thanx for listening.

I have a Sleeve question? Im RouNY
I'm a RouNY, gastric bypass. I'm 4 years out, you'd think I'd know this question seeing I did my research on all possible surgeries that would be the right choice for me. BUT I can't for the life of me, remember why is called: VSG? what's the 'V' stand for?? I suppose I could Google it...lol

emotional wreck
bad typing..I don't have an affliction for depression, and I hate meds..sheezz I gotta get spell check or sentence check!

emotional wreck
damn girl..sheeeezz..when it rains it pours..the depression is a normal side effect. I had it. but first let me say this->Im not bio-polar or have a affection for depression to begin with. I had a bad bout of depression, call my psychiatrist, she told me it was normal, but if it hasn't pass in time, we would start discussing meds, I had meds, so I waited it out. Thank god it finally went away. Horrible experience, that was.

My Husband My Journey
I'm always thinking of relevant subjects for Pre and Post op topics that might pertain regardless if you had surgery or thinking about it. So this morning I'm staring at my Husband across the table, were having coffee, and I'm thinkin'..."this is a great guy..I should tell my new friends on the BPal website about him, he deserves some recognition. I'll try to make this is short as I can... My Husbands name is Terry. The day the word 'GASTRIC BYPASS/RouNY' entered our lives. And changed it. He has been a somewhat apprehensive trooper. During my 4 years of research, and my paper literature all over the house, who knew, that even unbeknownst to him, he was learning right along with me. I'd say something, negative, and he'd say, "Well I was reading one of your papers on the table about that and..."lol..wow . ok skip to: I GOT MY SURGERY DATE!!! YAY (for me anyhow). I'm jumping for joy, doing my happy dance, I look over and he's NOT jumping for joy, no happy dance. What the hell!!??.."what's the matter Babe?..I thought we settled all this?"..Honest to Goodness, its him who was having second thoughts..lol..Here's a synopsis of our conversation. Terry: I know we discussed all of this, but do I have to eat everything you eat, all the time? Me: No babe, its my Journey, how many times have we discussed this. I told you, I refuse to be a 'food Nazi"..But if you could try not to bring to many treats/sweets into the house and leave them hanging around, I'd appreciate that. Just bring in what your going to eat. Terry: Am I expected to be involved in your exercise routines? Me: ok what's happening here sweetie, I thought we cover all this. Here's what was happening with him. When I got my actual surgery date. it became real for him, and all his insecurities started to overwhelm him, it was all good, till then. Totally understandable. He'd heard a lot of stories about spouse's leaving once they got skinny..blah blah blah. I had before and again at this moment, reassure him that our marriage/relationship was totally in tact and strong enough to survive almost anything. I believe its the relationships that were in jeopardy BEFORE RouNY was intro'd into their lives, and was inevitable to fail whether Gastric happen or not. WLS is not a marriage destroyer, it can used as an excuse for divorce, but definitely not the cause. My family and I have dubbed Terry as the "Honarary Gastric" glossary man. He knows more about this lifestyle than me it think. Always asking me if I checked the sugar content of this and that, how many cals are in that one container?..so I let him think its my journey, but really its OURS!! and I'm not even sure he's aware of it ..lolololol..thanx for listening.

Are You On a "Diet" for the Rest of Your Life?
Are you on a diet for the rest of your life?.. Is what a male colleague asked me today in the break room. I work for a major oil corporation, so it's basically all men, me and one other woman, in the main office area of the building. When I started this job I thought it we important for them to know I was a Gastric Bypass Person. Well naturally when were all eating lunch together, they have questions. My lunch is significantly and visually different than theirs. Some bring their own, most got to fast food joints on their lunch hour and bring it back, others take a full lunch hour elsewhere. But today Jeff took his lunch in house, and ate with me. Pleasant guy, overweight, with very high cholesterol, so he tells me, and is looking for foods that will help him lower it, and did I have any suggestion? So were talking, ok I'm talking, I tell him to nix the fast foods, that otta help a bit. So were talking a bit more, and out of the blue he asks me his question. It kind of caught me off guard, but I smiled and told him, NO. He looked a bit perplexed. I think there's a stigma that come with this surgery, that people have pre-conceived notions that were all rabbit food eaters, fruit smoothie fanatics, and self-righteous heath nuts.etc.. well not in my case anyway. I think once they knew I was Gastric, they started watching what I was eating..lol..and it was far healthier than theirs.. I got it pretty quick, when someone is eating unhealthy, and they know it, good foods in the room make them nervous, like they know they should be eating better to, I think. They always want to know what I brought today, and what's in it..lol. I'm pretty sure I taught them the word 'Quinoa'..lol I told Jeff that my surgery was 4 years ago, and now I eat pretty much whatever I want, but my stomach is it's own portion control. Some things make me sick, some don't. With lunch almost over, and not much talk about his high cholesterol but a lot of talk the foods I eat, I hope I conveyed to him that I have changed my eating from Dead Food to Live food, and if good clean eating is a diet, well yes I'm on a diet. He got it. I love my job

WLS and Food Addiction
You all are so right. Thank you..I just feel an instant kinship with anyone who had this surgery. I want so much for everyone to succeed and when they have hippcups or a bump in the road of their journey, I take it personally, I want to instantly reach out and help. Gotta work on that. Its not easy, we all know that. If it were easy to lose weight and be healthy I wouldn't have had the surgery. My journey to this point has soooo not been easy. But because I wanted this soooo bad, I feel everyone else does to, and sure they do to. I have to remember we're all human, and mishaps are inevitable. Note to Self: Just work on YOU, and pray everyone else has a safe, happy and productive life. Think its time to call the psychologist, I've got to lighten up! not everyone succeeds, but I wish they could. thanx for listening to my rant, I'll try not to do it often

Need some advice while making this decision
It is quite daunting and overwheling in the beginning. Its alot to ask from a morbidly obese person. Before surgery we ate at will. We had no eating or drinking rules, unless we made them ourselves, which caused YO-YO dieting. Yep, I had YO-Yo rules, and WLS has lifetime rules, which is what were really after anyway, arent we? to find self control and disapline? In time with the knowledge your gaining. You will find your nitch, what works for you. Pick a few,try them on, and pick what works for you. The guidlines aren't so strick, the further your journey takes you. So now we are learning a NEW way, and its unerving, and seems impossible. When Im at a resturant now, I see Im eating and drinking (water) like all the skinny people around me...lol..silly observance, but its true, makes me smile.

I still struggle with....(fill in the blanks)
I am a recovering 'Sugar Addict"...Everytime I try to get out, Krispy Creme tries drags me back in by developing another delish pastry the size of my head. I work in a large office building, and there they are, every morning!!..I drag me and my coffee back to my office.. donut free. I gotta get a Kerig in my office. But so far, so good, Im not tempted, just incredulous at the size there getting!

Slow Weight Loss Need dietary suggestions
ohhhh you are NOT gonna like this..lol..for just 365 little days, (per order of my nutritionist) I did not consume, Bread, Pasta, Sugar, Rice or Any form of Diary. I went past my goal in 8 months. NO RED meat either. Man I thought that was harsh. But I wanted to get there the fast way possible. But I did eat all forms of fish, pork/ham, venison, turkey. duck, goose, chicken, crab meat, shrimp, just not 'cow'. And I'll be damned, well-la 8 months later 115 lbs. Oh and NO PROCESS/DEAD foods. I did my shakes, I did my fruit, vegs, & vitamins. Amazingly I still don't eat those foods til today, and don't miss them either. To strict, I know, just wanted to add to your post

WLS and Food Addiction
Ok..I've calmed down a bit, but I'm just sayin', if I went into this surgery BEFORE I got a grip on my sugar addiction, it horrifies me to think where'd I be now..and maybe I saw myself in her, IF I didn't get help first.

WLS and Food Addiction
This post should probably be in the 'Rant' section. So tonight I'm at my WLS support group. The subject was Food Addiction. I like this subject a lot. I over came my sugar addiction BEFORE surgery. So I'm very sympathetic to this subject. Right up until this (large)woman started talking about her lack of will power. Then she starts crying, at this point I'm thinking this poor woman needs to get a handle on this before she has her surgery. Wow she's really in a lot of pain over this. Then she says "IM 2 YEARS OUT AND I CANT GET A GRIP ON THIS AND I'M NEARLY BACK TO MY STARTING WEIGHT" My sympathy FLEW straight out the window, I think I gasped out loud. Here come the rant and the High Horse again!! Aarrrrrhhhh..ok, I'm not angry because she was back to her starting weight, it happens. I'm appalled because she DID NOT ask for help when she felt the situation was getting out of hand. What the hell!!! she shows up at a meeting when she is so beaten down and ashamed she doesn't know what to do. she says she never went for help before her surgery for her food addictions BECAUSE SHE WAS ASHAMED OF THAT!!!!..Now I thinking what Doctor/hospital allows a person to go ahead with this surgery before they are totally cleared. Then she says, she hid it from everyone. I almost exploded. Let me tell you why (riding my High Horse). This is a body altering/life changing event. A life time commitment to that change. Why on this God given planet would one attempt such a thing without getting help first. I know its judgmental, and I am being harsh, but that's one of those "GET YOUR DUCKS IN A ROW" thing I'm always talking about. I had a horrible sugar addiction, I know it's a shameful secretive thing. But the opportunity to get help is encompassed and obtainable when applying for this surgery. I don't think better late, than never, applies here. Sorry Im really angry. I didn't approach her. I couldn't. Maybe at a later date if she keeps coming. Am I being to harsh & judgmental? Just need a sounding board here? maybe at a later date my compassion will return for her. To snarky on my part?

I survived my first meal at a restaurant
I really don't know much about the sleeve, I'm gastric bypass. But I gotta tell ya, 3 wks out of surgery, that meal would have killed me dead in my tracks. wow good for you..I wasn't even that hungry for weeks after my surgery. All my GBP friends are wishing they had the sleeve now..lolol
