1. Hi Karen, To answer your question...I ride on my bike 20 miniutes a day. I usually try to do it in the morning before my shower. It helps to put on the TV to pass the time. Or, I just look out my window to watch the birds, deer, or groundhogs in the back yard. When I started riding I just did it for 10 minutes and worked my way up to 20 minutes. I teach at Fort Dix Elementary School. Most days, when I get home I'm not in the mood to bike ride for 20 minutes. All I want to do is sit down and relax for a few minutes before cooing diner. I found it harder to loose weight if I didn't excersise. I think the trick is to start off slow and work with your body. If you don't have a bike try walking. As a kid I never was much into playing sports. But, I really want to make this work. I guess they call it work for a reason. Anyway, hang in there! Have a great day. Jane
  2. Hi Karen, I understand your being scared. I was a little scared 2 days before I had my surgery. The lap band surgery was July 24th. I'm happy to say everything went fine. I stayed in the hospital over night. I was a little sore, but, was able to get up and walk just a couple of hours after surgery. I came home and took it easy for the weekend. Then, back to work on Monday. I was glad I only had to go to a 6 hour workshop for school. I am completely fine now. The big thing to remember is to stick with your clear liquids the first week. The second I went on to puddings, soups, and yogarts. Now, I'm eating real food. I go back to see my doctor in 1 & 1/2 weeks. I think I'll be getting my first fill then. I also worried about this not working...after all, nothing else every worked...but, I'm happy to tell you it is working. I have to be careful what I eat...but, that's part of the life changing for better health. Hang in there...it will be worth it!!! Jane

Hi all!

This whole thing is new to me.

I'm 56 years old, married for 3 years, and a grandmother.

I'm getting my lap band on August 24th. Today I go to the doctor's office for may last visit before the surgery. Part of me is excited...part a little scared. I guess it's just the unknown that bothers me. Not the surgery part...wanting to succeed. I know from reading a lot of posts that it can take a long time to reach my goal. Please, say a little prayer for me. Thanks.

Hi Cindy, I just wanted to check to see how you were doing after surgery. I had the lap band on Friday and came home yesturday. I feel very good. Actually, a lot better then my room mate at the hospital. She had a lot of pain from gas. I was very fortunate and didn't have any gas. I got out of bed and waked 3 times that day. I'm working on getting enough protein for each day. That's really a challenge. Anyway, I hope you are doing OK. Jane

Hi LJS69, Thank you for your encouragement. I'm felling much better about tomorrow. You're right. Once the surgery is behind me I know I can make the life changes to make it work. Are there any words of wisdom you can give me about the first week or two? Is there something that you can remember that worked, or didn't work? Instead of being nervous...I'm now excited about the future.:nervous (Jane)

Cindy, Thank you for those words of encouragement. Yeasturday, I spoke to someone who had the lap band for 3 months. She also had reservations as the surgery date got close. She answered all my questions. She also said it was the best thing she did for herself and she would do it all over again. Best of luck. I look forward to hearing how you are doing after you get home. angel (Jane)

Am I doing the right thing??

Thank you Stefgray for those words. I also am going to have the lap band on. My surgery will be this friday 8/24. I did my research and even watched a real lap band surgery on the internet. Then, I read about the "slime and golf balls". It really made me scared. Thank you for the words of encouragement.
