Hi, I am a 35 year old happily married mother of 2 from Colorado. My daughter is 4 years old and my son is 19months. With that being said having surgery was a huge decision for me!
I have battled my weight from about the age of 9. All I know is being over weight. I knew I was loved but for one side of my family being over weight was a huge disappointment and I was very aware of that.
Growing up I always hid the pain it caused me & led a pretty happy life over all. I hid how sad I really felt.
The big change for me came after the birth if my son. I was the heaviest I had ever been and starting to feel the toll on my body. Although I have not had trouble with blood pressure, diabetes or many other afflictions associated with weight. I knew if I did not conquer this, I would end up with health issues. My joints began to ache. Fat hangs and hurts! I felt sluggish, sick and tired. I could feel depression creeping in. I didn't want to be the fat mom.
Tired of trying to hide behind clothes, which only made me look bigger. Not feeling confident in myself and found myself shying away from my husband and intimate situations.
My birthday came March 2013 and I was done. I didn't want fat and weight to steal anymore years from me. Any more joy! I had found out that my Aunt on my fathers side had gotten the "sleeve". She had huge success from the procedure so I reached out to her for information. Quite the conversation... I learned that obesity robbed my great grandmother of a joyous life and the same had been true for my Aunt. Interestingly she is a healthcare professional. I received information from the professional side, as well as a patient..
I decided to move forward, demand a referral to weight loss doctor and eventually got excepted into a medical weightloss program. I began taking phentermine with doctor and nutritionist care in Aril 2013 while I waited to begin the long process twords VSG. I lost 41lbs in that time. It was so amazing to not feel hungry all the time. That helped me feel stronger in my decision that the sleeve would be a good tool for me!
As I went through many classes I did feel scared BUT what it boiled down to for me was not waisting any more time. I wanted to be healthy and happy. I have lived on one diet to the next & just never had lasting success. Time to get a real tool to conquer this life long struggle.
I am 1 week post op as I write this. I was so scared, but I feel like I made the correct decision for me, my future and my family.
It is honestly hard to believe that I could actually not be over weight. That this is possible.!?
I am willing to do the work on my end. Can't wait to actually see lasting results. To run and play with my kids, swim with my family & not always trying to hide. To not shy away from my husband and feel like fat will no longer stop me from anything!
I am feeling good by the way.. For only being 1 week out from surgery I only needed pain meds for 3 days and I am able to eat a number of things. I am working hard to balance my fluid intake with healthy intro diet.
Excited for this new journey :D
