Wallflower7522 got a reaction from Stacyann81 in From Surgeon appointment to surgery date!
It only took a couple of days once the insurance actually got the information but it took about 3 weeks to get all the information back in forth. I have UHC. I was hoping for a Feb 13th surgery date, my final appointment was on 1/8. I ended up being offered a Feb 18th date but opted to wait till March 4. You'll probably want to stay on top of your doctor's office and your insurance to get an approval that quickly.

Wallflower7522 got a reaction from 1Day1Life4Now in who cares if it is the easy way out?
Maybe (big maybe) it is an easier way to loose weight and keep it off but it's also the only way that is statistically successful. 4 of my close friends who are significantly overweight have had this surgery. They've also had long term success even when they don't follow the diet as well as they should. 2 of my friends have opted for diet instead. One lost 150 lbs while she stayed home with her son. She lived in the middle of nowhere and didn't have access to unhealthy foods at a moments notice and she had time to work out. She still had to work her ass off every second of everyday. As soon as she went back to work, she started gaining. The other friend has followed a very strict diet for 18 months. She's lost 75lb and has been stuck for months even though she works really hard. But it's been all that time and she still has at least another 100 lbs to go. Both of these girls were/are obsessed (like in a clinical burgeoning on eating disorder way) with their diets every second of every day. I can't live like that. It's not my personality. I could not do what they did on my own and I admire them for it. And unfortunately it doesn't have the same long terms results WLS has. I know that RNY patients will face many of the same issues that they face, but we have one extra tool in our shed. Neither journey is easy, they are both long, difficult roads, and you have to pick the one that works best for you.

    I made it!
My surgery was Tuesday at 8 am. I woke up in a lot of pain and pretty disoriented but I once I got some pain meds in me I felt better. The pain wasn't bad at all and I haven't been hungry since I woke up. I had some minimal complications with my heart wanting to beat at 150-160 but they got me well hydrated and that resolved it self. The most painful part of the whole thing was when my IV blew today and filled my arm with magnesium.
I'm home now. Working on setting up meals for the week. I lost 15 lbs on my preop diet but I've gained it all back in Fluid. The good thing is that I'm sure I've still been burning fat so I expect with in a few days I'll be on my way to losing again.

I'm 3 days preop. So far some things I've bought and loved or at least tolerated well:
Premier Protein drinks in chocolate from Sams club $20 for 12
Premier Protein in vanilla with 31 grams from Trader Joes or the Vitamin shop $2-3 each
A small Blender Bottle from Walmart. It says it's 20 oz but it really only holds about 12. $5
samples of syntax nectar Protein from the Vitamin shop $2
    Unsweetened apple sauce
    Cottage cheese
About 5 pairs of jeans in my favorite style in every size from a 22 to a 12
New sheets and a body pillow so I'll be comfortable when I get home.
I use my fitness pal to keep track of what I've been eating on my preop diet and run keeper for work outs. I'm hoping to buy a fitness tracker soon. I'm waiting to see what the next gen of smart watches look like before I decide on one.
I'm going to go check out this Popsicle maker ASAP. Thanks for the tip!

Wallflower7522 got a reaction from Loveskinnyme in The waiting game!
The wait between my final appointment and scheduling my date was nerve racking. I just researched as much as I could and started buying some new clothes here and there. Once I got my date I started buying Protein and trying recipes. My surgery is on Tuesday and I'm not nervous but I am questioning myself. I know I'm doing the right thing though. I'm sure I'll be a nervous wreck by Monday.
My advice to you would be to get your house ready for when you're going to come home. I had to rearrange some furniture. And rest as much as you can. I've had quit a few restless nights so I've been going to bed early when I can. Good luck with everything! I hope you get your days soon.

I bough bullion cubes to make broth. I like 1 chicken cube, one beef cube, and some onion powder. I bought a couple of types of Popsicles and a lot of yogurt. I bought some cottage cheese tonight because I was desperate for something different. I bought a couple of kinds of juice but I limit how much of that I have since it's high on the carbs.

I know I'm going to have a drain but I can't for the life of me remember if anyone at my surgeons office actually told me that. I've had 3 friends that had the surgery with the same surgical group and they had them.
At first I was annoyed at the thought of it but then it was explained to me that if you have a leak you can get very sick if you don't know it. If you start getting weird stuff in your drain they may put you back in the hospital for a few day and not let you eat but it will probably heal on its own. So I'll take the drain I guess.

I feel you. It's really hard. I haven't had the cravings too bad but I just feel like crap. It does make me constantly question if this is what I want. My arms feel so weak. Today was my last day of work though so I'm hoping I'll be able to rest a few days before my surgery, on Tuesday and I'll fell better.

Wallflower7522 got a reaction from Mellie May in How to tell your friends and family that you are having WLS surgery
This has been the absolute hardest part of my journey so far. My surgery is next Tuesday and I've only told some of my friends and family in the last few weeks. It's been almost a year since I started this, and i really didn't want to talk about it constantly for the whole time. I've really only told people on a need to know basis. My aunt works in the same building as me, so she would notice I was gone for a month, and the same with most of my friends who are also coworkers.
For a while no one but my husband and two friends that had the surgery knew. Then I told two other friends but that was it from early summer when I started until about a month ago when I went to my final appointment.
So far I've been pleasantly surprised with people's reactions. I have two friends who have struggled with their weight who I was worried about but they've been very supportive. One of them even traded me a bunch of clothes which was great.
My biggest concern was my dad. He really hasn't been in my life much until the last year and he's been a bit over bearing since then. Trying to make up for lost time I suppose. But I had minor surgery a few months ago and he drove me crazy. He's also one of the reasons I've struggled with my weight my entire life. I remember him making me eat until I literally threw up once when I was about 5 and even now he constantly tried to make me eat more, makes comments about how I "eat like a bird" ect...(I really don't). He also constantly questions my decision not to have kids. Anyway this weekend I finally just told him. My best friend had the surgery last year and he's seen her progress so he was excited for me. I explained to him that I don't want visitors in the hospital or while I'm recovering at home and he was ok with that. Honestly it's been a huge relief getting that over with. I feel so much more ready for it now that I'm not trying to hid it from anyone.
I still haven't told my mom. I don't see her much, our relationship is also very complicated but I can easily get through the entire thing without seeing her. She is a nurse so that would be super helpful but she is into a lot of "alternative medicine" and takes it very personal if you're not into it to.
There is a "secret surgery" thread on here somewhere dealing with similar issues. I posted there a while back, and I'm relieved at the progress I've made since I've posted that.
Good luck with telling people, I've been very lucky so far and I hope you are too. Don't let them make you question your choices. As you said in your post, it is a weight lifted when you finally come clean. I've watched a couple of your videos, and plan on watching some more while I'm down. You're going to do awesome.

Just got scheduled today for March 4th. I have slowly been incorporating foods into my diet that I'll be able to have before and after. I've been eating more yogurt and trying different broths. I'm going Protein shopping this weekend. I'll start my liquid diet in three weeks.
I gave up using straws for the most part a few months ago and I'm working on not having any carbonated drinks. I need to cut back on caffeine but that's going to be really really hard.
And the most exciting thing I've done so far is clothes shopping. I'm a 22/24 right now and I bought some smaller jeans. I just kind of look at them in the mornings and think how I can't wait till even those are too big for me.

I should be getting a surgery date this week and I've only told a few people. My husband, brother, and a handful of friends are the only ones that know. I'm usually pretty open about stuff but I'm also very introverted when it comes to the heavy stuff and I can not bring myself to tell my family. I think they'll mostly be supportive but I also know they'll be overbearing. My parents haven't always been great and now it's like they try too hard. Our relationship is complicated to say the least. They'll want to "be there for me" but they'll only want to do what makes them feel better about it, and not do what i really need. I've had two minor surgeries this year and they stressed me out both times by trying to out "good parent" each other. My mom is a nurse so I'm hoping she'll at least be helpful but I just really don't want my dad around. He's not going to take this "rejection" well.
I also just really don't want people visiting me in the hospital or at home. I'm going to look and feel like crap and be stuck in a hospital gown that leaves me super exposed. And my house is going to be a wreck because I won't be able to clean it.
Unless my husband insist I tell his close family I'm going to tell my parents a few days before and ask that they respect my choice and my wishes. I have plenty of support from friends who've had the surgery so I think I'll be fine. I'll tell everyone else after when/if the time comes. I'm sure I'll get put on the "why didn't you tell me" guilt trip more times than I can count but I guess I have to do what's right for me.
