  1. Some surgeons don't and instead do a low-cal diet with fasting prior to surgery. For the ones that DO require liquids, however, it's done primarily to shrink the liver and pancreas before surgery to reach the stomach easier.

I was on a pre op liquid diet for 6 weeks, they told me it was so my liver would shrink so he could get to my stomach easier. Then after surgery I was on liquid diet for 4 more weeks. I was wanting real food so badly. That on my next check up I ate a few bites of scrambled eggs and orange juice and oh boy was I sick, they came back up and I am now 7 mos out and I still can't eat them.lol

  2. I'm looking for ideas for easy and quick foods.. I work 12 hr shifts and when I get home I'm tired and don't feel like fixing a big meal for me and my husband, is there anything out there that I could pop in the microwave to fix? that doesn't have rice or Pasta in them, I've tried just like frying hamburger and eating that but it gets boring, I'm 4 months out from surgery,

Use a crockpot put in chicken breast, 2 cans cream of chicken Soup, 2 cans chedder Soup cook on low for 6 hrs. Really good with mashed potatoes.

  3. Hi Everyone! I'm new to this site and pre-op. My insurance requires a 6 month medically supervised diet. I'm at month 6. I meet the surgeon on March 3rd. Between months 4 and 5, I stopped drinking Diet Coke and lost 21 lbs.

Now, I'm having issues. I'm eating Chobani yogurt, celery, turkey sandwiches on light bread (no mayo), fruit, drinking 72 oz of Water a day...and then I freak out a few times a week. Once, I ate a whole large pizza. I hate binging. I feel gross and ashamed. I haven't gained any of the 21 lbs back. However, is any of this normal? Does it get better after surgery? I'm seeing a therapist about the binging. Help, any advice will be greatly appreciated.

It is normal to Bing before pre open diet. I ate everything that I thought I would be able to eat again. When I started my pre open diet I never once fished on it, didn't want to. After the sleeve I am not really hungry any more, and you can't over eat because your new stomach won't let u .

  4. Hi Jenny I had my sleeve done 7/29/13, it was the best thing that I've ever done for my self. Just remember that it is a tool for us to use, we have to make good choices in what we put in our bodies. It is not a instant fix, we have to work at it. Remember to drink Water, green tea, crystal light. Also take your Vitamins every day, when they do your sleeve they pump you full of gases to be able to be able to do the surgery, when you are awake start walking around your room then move out into the hall and walk, walk ,walk this will help the gas to dissipate, if you don't you may feel like your having a heart attack from the gas build up. I don't own a set of scales and I have not focused on whether or not I was losing or gaining, I weighed 266 before I started my pre open diet, on day of surgery I weighed 242, today I weigh 188.4 @ 7 months. I recommend putting your scales away that way you just have to concentrate on what you are eating and drinking, believe me you will know you are loosing weight by the way your clothes are fitting.I have read so many different post about people who are upset because they are either in a stall gained, or only lost one or two lbs. in a month, with out scales I never was worried about those things and I think it's the way to go, every time I went for a check up I had lost weight. But to each his/ her own. Best of luck Louise

  5. I am type II andmine was out of control before surgery. I was taking 50 units of Lantis every day, 12 units of Humalog before meals with a sliding scale between, also was taking Byetta 10 units twice a day.Now my blood sugar runs anywhere between 85-130 if I don't take my Lantis I'm down to 15 units every morining and sometimes 1-6 units of Humalog, I no longer take the Byetta. I weighed 266 pre surgery, after my liquid diet for almost 4 wks, I weighed 242 on day of surgery. Tody 7 mos out I weigh 188.4. I feel like a different person, I no longer have to use a scooter when I shop,I'm able to walk longer distances before my back, hips are hurting.I am so thankful that I did this for my self, its the best thing that I have ever done for myself. I try to eat more Protein than carbs, veggies,or fruits. I supplement with greek plain yogurt with unsweetned almond milk, add blue berries or other fruit, and stevia to sweetne it then blend it.Also I eat high Protein Bars, and shakes.

    ood Luck

    Shel

I'm so sorry that you are having such a hard time. Don't give up the weightt will start falling off. My Dr did nit want me weighing at home, I don't own a scale. I don't know if I have had a stall or not. I weigh at the Dr's office, I'm now 6 mos and weigh 191.6. Still have a way to go, just stay on your program drink your Water, and take your Vitamins.

  7. I LOVE palak paneer! I make a "healthy" version with tofu instead of paneer--lower in fat.

My husband is from Pakistan so we cook South Asian food a lot. I've been worried about being able to eat Indian/Pakistani food after being sleeved. I suppose if I stay away from the rice and the naan bread I should be OK.

    Thanks for posting! B)

I am able to eat a little brown rice. I use chicken broth to make it.

  8. Freezing. All. The. Time.

I wear my cuddle duds all the time and when I sit at home I sit under my electric throw. At night we have an electric blanket on our bed.

This winter in Texas has been very cold and windy. Never in my life have I muttered H**y S**t so much. Every time I go outside when the cold wind hits me.

I will never, ever complain about the hot Texas summers again. Ever!

    Till at least July. :D

I live in East Texas , and it's been so cold and we have had snow ,which is very unusual for us. I turn up the heat, and curl up with a blanket.

  9. Thank you for the words of encouragement! It's probably the nurse in me expecting the worst, I don't know, but I will take a deep breath and calm down. I hope and pray in a few months, my regrets disappear! I have lost 11 pounds in 4 days :)

I was sleeved on 7/29/13, I was on Clear Liquids for 4 weeks, sf popsicles, sweet rewards fudge sicles, sf puddings, broths, water, and shakes. Then wk 5 I was allowed instant potatoes, 1cup chicken broth, 3 Tbs potatoes,sm. amt shredded cheda cheese. Makes good potatoe Soup. Cream Soups.< /p>

  10. I never eat less than two or more than four hours apart. Less than two is head hunger. More than four and you run the risk of getting overly hungry which can lead to overeating. For the head hunger, I drink a cup of Decaf coffee, Crystal Light, sugar free flavored waters, tea, etc. I love coffee so it is often my go to and it works like a charm for me.

It's easy to overlook the importance of learning to speak "pouch". But the short and long term benefits are well worth the effort. Focus on being very aware of what your pouch is telling you and when it's doing the most talking. Keep in mind that pouches are talkative by nature. Mine practically never shuts up. But with a little effort you will quickly learn to tell the difference between the seemingly endless "babble" that pouches seem to be so fond of and "Hungry! Now!".

Perhaps it's important to note too that in pouch speak, "eating" isn't synonymous with a "full meal". When my pouch is fussing about eating something, I often supplement the usual three meals a day with one or two light Snacks . Pouches are pretty easy-going and not terribly smart. Something to drink or a light snack will usually take them back to their happy place!

I try to eat Protein all thru the day, I also drink Water, and green tea.

  11. Well I now know why not to drive- didn't realize how much twisting and turning you have to do while driving.

Anyway everything is great! 1 tube gone. Monday should get the 2nd one out.

Glad your doing so well. Where is this PS located at. I'm trying to find one to check on cost. I have Cigna Health Spring and they only cover belly fat and maybe breast lift if I'm lucky.

  12. I am so sorry to hear about your loss , I know how hard it is to loose a loved one . I lost my son 3 days after giving birth to him, he would have been 27 this july. I didn't think I could go on but I had a 14 month old at home that needed me, I thank God for this comfort at that time, and for all the support ofmy family and friends. You have to take one day at a time, and the greif will gradually get where it's easier to handel ,but you never forget them they are always in your heart and memories. Your husband would be proud of you for the way you are going on with your recovery, he would want you to keep on with your program and continue with your wt loss, you seem to be a strong person and I know it's darkest before the dawn but you will make it. If you need fo talk we are all here for you . God Bless and keep you in your time of greif I will be praying for you and your family Loujse

  13. Thanks for the info, I'm half way to my goal wt and have been trying to find out about how much it cost and if my insurance will cover any of it . I need from my thighs and up to my neck done. I called Cigna Health Springs and they couldn't tell me ant thing said to talk to my Dr and let him submit a claim and see if they woulda aprove it. Does any one else have Cigna Health Springs, rhey paid for my sleeve without any problem. I hope that they will pay for what I need done now. I'm glad you are doing so great , good luck

  14. I know the stores are putting things out so earlier each year it's crazy. I to love them. I could eat a bag by myself before my sleeve, I was a chochohalic . Now if I take a bite of something I used to love it's usually too sweet so that it taste bad and I don't want it. It's funny how the sleeve has changed my taste. I'm so glad that it works that way. When I want somthing sweet I fix flouless chocolate peantbutter Cookies, 2 cups peanutebutter, 2 eggs, 1/2 cup truvia baking sugar, 1/2cup brrownsugar with splenda, 1 tsp vanilla mix well spoon on to parchment paper and bake oh I forgot the coco powder to taste. They turn out pretty good. I eat one or two depeding on size of cookie a day, my son in law devours most of them.

    Good luck

  15. Good luck Bella, I know how hard it is keeping up with a toddler when you are heavy. I wish I had had this surgety 30 yrs ago, it would have been so much better for me and child. This one of the best
