    Pre-op diet, help!

I lost ten pounds and then stalled the last five days or so. I was drinking so much water and trying to hydrate for surgery, I think it counteracted the weight loss. You will do fine! As long as you've followed your Preop diet, there should be nothing to worry about.
  2. Thanks @@alyce20 My goodness! I texted my sister and told her I had the butt gurgles lol! She finds it hilarious! I'm glad my side effects amuse her lol
  3. Much of the research has been leaning towards the band as being subpar to the sleeve and/or bypass. I don't watch the view, but I know Rosie o'donnell has always been outspoken and brazen in her comments. I think that we shouldn't take offense to her comments, just know that she may have the same information that many of us have seen on the band. I spoke with one surgeon who doesn't even perform band surgeries anymore. I chose the sleeve for my own reasons and believe everyone is entitled to what they want done with their body. One surgeon told me I should have bypass, but I knew that that wasn't right for me. Good luck to anyone that chooses to pursue weight loss surgery as a means to better their health.
  4. @@Kaylap I quit smoking years ago, but those that do smoke are told to quit plenty of time before the surgery. Smoking can inhibit healing of the staple line and any healing in general. You can do it! It will be difficult at first, but it will happen. I tried multiple times in 2001 and finally quit cold turkey. I finally had enough of smelling like cigarettes and having my lungs feel bad. Once you quit, you will be reversing the damage and getting the sleeve will be a huge stepping stone to health! I think I gave up smoking and started eating more. I grew up with a family that ate seconds and thirds even, and was part of the clean plate club. I wish you the best.
  5. I'm just stopping while I'm ahead for now. I can always eat more refried Beans in a few hours right lol... I'm excited to start eating small portions and knowing I will have leftovers. I will be able to eat mini meals and if I want I can have the same thing for lunch and dinner. Haha As long as I'm getting my Protein in I know I can do this ????

    Sleeved on 9/24/14!

Congrats! I only had gas pains as well...but those are so painful. I wish they could suck the extra air out lol I also had a hiatal hernia repaired and didn't have pain there until I felt the dreaded slimes and got nauseous and dry heaved. The pain was like being punched and the air being knocked out of me. All in all I am not regretting my decision! Keep me posted on how you are doing!

    Bathroom problems

Haha I just posted my own diarrhea question...I was never constipated, but I think my lack of medications that I normally take is causing this

    Moodiness

Anyone else moody post op? I am a week post op as of yesterday and feel like a raging bitch sometimes. I worry that my husband will end up leaving me...

    Taste for water changed?

I have been drinking decaf tea. I used to drink it all the time, but then I forgot about my cupboard full of tea. Lady Grey is my go to right now. Chamomile is really good too. I tied a cinnamon apple spice, but even without sweetener it was too sweet.

    Safeway Soups

Luckily I'm only eating a few tablespoons. Far less than the serving size.
  11. I'm still on my liquid/protein shake phase and just tried the tomato basil bisque from safeway...it is so yummy and had so much flavor. I actually thought it would be a good alternative to pasta sauce and may just add zucchini noodles or slices to it when I can eat solids.
  12. So once in a while I feel like a twinge in my sleeve that lasts for a few moments, but what is it? Is it gas? Hunger? Or thirst? It's not painful at all, just different...I'm thinking gas
  13. I can't wait for my liquid/protein week to be over! I know it's for safety reasons. So I will gladly adhere to the post op diet...but I went to the store today and bought tons of mush/purée food Gerber pears, peaches, applesauce, Apple/mango/kiwi, oatmeal (for mechanical phase), unsweetened applesauce, sf Jello (can't wait until I can add fruit to it! My sister and I both love banana and peaches in different jellos), no sugar added Libby peaches and pears, a huge tub of fage greek yogurt, and I think that's about it...looking forward to the next phase ????

I think it's the missing days of Zoloft lol

    Baby Food

Hahaha! I actually don't mind the fruits, I am going to add my unjury powder to them. It takes the work out of making my own applesauce and stuff for now. I plan on finding things to mush up, but I have a horrible issue with textures...like puréed meat would not work for me...and I don't eat mayo which I know people use to help wet the meat...ugh if only I weren't so picky
  16. Hope you all had great surgeries! Wishing you the best recoveries!!!

    Alcohol intake

I never really drink except maybe a once a year sangria, but I am going to wait at least a year until I even attempt a sip. With smaller tummies and lower body weights we will get drunker faster. No need for duis
  18. Like rovobay said, a lot of people will be pro sleeve as it's the sleeve forum, but here were my personal reasons why I chose the sleeve: 1. I am a volume eater! I may not be shoving Oreos and junk food down my throat, but I overeat, even the good stuff like fruits. 2. I am already anemic, have low Vitamin d and b12 levels, so I did not want to have issues with malabsorption. 3. The thought of having most of my stomach removed doesn't bother me, hut I get the eebie jeebies from the thought of having my intestines movers around. 4. I don't really eat a ton of sweets so the major possibility of dumping syndrome being a deterrent wasn't needed. 5. I also love to bake during the holidays! Like Graham Elliot, he chose the sleeve so he can still taste test what is being made. Like I said in #4, I don't eat a lot of sweets, but being more prone to dumping syndrome wouldn't be good for testing recipes. 6. My mom has a history of colitis and ulcers, and was hospitalized once and had to receive blood transfusions...that alone made me want to leave my intestines alone. 7. I have had migraines since childhood and NSAIDS help me. They can be used occasionally with sleeve (at least some docs ok it) and with bypass you can't take them at all. 8. With bypass you have a small pouch and your anatomy is changed and if something happens and a medic or doctor needs to scope you, the can perforate your pouch if they aren't advised you have had bypass. It's late, so if I think of anymore I will add them, but take the time to make the decision that is right for you. Regardless of what surgery you choose, we will all be out here rooting for you????

    Devastated :(

@@jessdawn37 Don't give up hope! I actually went in for surgery in September 2012 and when I woke up I was told they couldn't do the surgery due to my liver. I thought that was a sign that I was meant to stay this way forever. I had gotten into a car accident in the parking lot of that clinic, and it seemed that whatever could go wrong always seemed to go wrong there. Fast forward to the end of 2013 and I decided to look into other doctors. I went to a surgeon who told me I should do bypass, but I know that wasn't the right decision for me, so I looked again and found Dr. Landerholm. I went in for a consult and told him how I gave up and he told me never to give up hope. He had me do a three week pre op diet and I had surgery last Monday (9/22). I also had a hiatal hernia repaired that the first surgeon said I didn't have, so I have to look at it as a blessing in disguise. If the first doc had done the sleeve, I'd still have a huge hole in my diaphragm where my stomach was stuck. If you would like to msg me please do: mkwhite1280@gmail.com

    DO WE ALL NEED THERAPY?

I am trying to blog daily...it helps me hold myself accountable, and I want to be able to document and help anyone else that may stumble upon my blog. I find such inspiration in shellys blog theworldaccordingtoeggface.com and bariatric foodie.com so I wanted to set up my own...if I start sliding I definitely have to be accountable for my actions.
  21. I am using this post op time to really evaluate my food choices and what I am putting in my mouth. I hope it continues for years down the road! My family has a long history of obesity, and I want to be a good example if I am lucky enough to be blessed with children. I had the sleeve to lose weight and start a family. I'm 33 and I have said every year for the past ten years that I will lose the weight on my own, but I haven't. I want kids so bad, but as most girls who are overweight know, obesity wreaks have on your cycle and can cause secondary infertility. I pray that in 18 months when I can start trying that I am blessed with a baby. I think we have to keep our goals in mind everyday. I know if I sit down one day to eat at a picnic, I will be able to eat a few chips and not the entire bag. On my pre op diet I was lucky to be able to eat whatever I wanted as long as I remained under 40 carbs a day. I literally counted everything I ate. I had taco salad one night and had 10 bite size tortilla chips crunched on top of the salad. 20 chips had 20 carbs, so if I had 10 carbs from that, I was happy. I didn't feel deprived and was able to still eat normally. I will continue to count carbs as it is the only way I lose weight.

    My date

    Good luck today!
  23. I love fage! I wish I got 5 bucks each time I said it haha I am flavoring mine with torani syrups right now and when I can have it, I may actually buy different fruits and make my own fill ins and freeze them in ice cube trays to change up everyday. I can only imagine the possibilities: Apple cinnamon Peach cobbler Raspberry Blackberry Boysenberry Kiwi strawberry I used to eat the split cups all the time, but they are too sugary ???? so I will make my own ????

    Frustrated

I was on liquids the day of surgery and the day after, I'm on the 1st week of liquid/protein drinks and to be honest I have a really hard time with protein! I am eating plain fage greek yogurt with torani syrup added for flavor. I'm drinking tons of herbal decaf teas, Water, and still eating Jello and pudding. It is hard! I'm starting the next phase on Wednesday and that is mush/puréed food. I just stocked up on baby food.
  25. I am losing my boobs! I have gone down to the smallest notch on my bra...but my tummy is still lagging behind...I thought I'd try some of my older capris from years ago, but they still are a little too small...maybe in a few weeks
