  1. HevnB... I'm glad to see this. A good friend of mine is mid-70's and he wants the sleeve. Please DO follow up post-op to share your story. You might be heaven-bound, but not getting there just yet. Good luck and many prayers for your surgery on Monday. Oh, the sleeve has fewer complications. You are likely more progressive than folks in that other forum. :-)
  2. Don't rush your system, or possibly complicate your stomach's healing process. Take it easy. (IMO).

    Spicy foods?

I love spicy food, and have had no problems with it post-op. Tried some at five weeks out; no problems at all, thank God! :-)

quick breakfast ideas to take on the go

I can't seem to edit previous post. I added that I might make smoothie with fresh spinach, kale, apple & Sweet/Low.

quick breakfast ideas to take on the go

I sometimes go to Krystal and get the lo-carb scrambler: scrambled eggs, cheese and sausage or bacon. Two spoonfuls and done. One order lasts 2-3 days. LOL. Or... I make a smoothie with fresh spinach, kale, an apple, a Sweet & Low. But I do better with 'Protein first.'
  6. I would check for another weight loss center/ team.
  7. You probably need to start exercising (as do I. I've done none to really make mention of ). But also, check again with your nutritionist; 60 gms of carbs seems like a lot at this stage, especially grains--starch. (You might want to get the book, The Grain Brain.) And as I've posted elsewhere, I personally had to stop all products with Splenda/sucralose. When I did that last week, I broke my stall. Lost 5 pounds. Re: 'the girls"--boobs...yeah. A friend of mine said, "Well, you have to let me get next to them before they go away!" LOL. Of the men calling me, he is last on my list of them all, so I thought, yeah, dream on, dude. You ain't the one.
  8. Drink what clear liquids you can (not easy). Also, IF you were on any HBP meds, and are still taking them, check your blood pressure. It may have dropped a lot. Around my POD # 8 or so, I felt soooo weak/lethargic. I checked my BP and it was 110/54. It hadn't been that low in 15 years. I actually had to suck on some potato chips to get it up a bit higher [note: NOT advised for weight loss. It was a one-time thing I did for myself re: my BP.] It gets better, but trying to hydrate is a key thing, even though it's tough to do at first.

Dangers of Sugar Free - how much is too much?

I figured out, and recently confirmed, that Splenda/sucralose blocks my weight loss. It's "made from sugar, so it tastes like sugar," remember that ad? In my body, it acts like sugar. I recently stopped all those [protein] products that have it in them and finally broke my stall. Almost going into the '21__' weight, down from a max of 271.2 and a surgery day weight of 257.2. Whoo-hoo!! I do fine with Sweet & Low.
  10. Watch out for medications with NSAIDs in them (non-steroidal) meds, like ibuprofen, etc. They can cause bronchospasm. (Has something to do with 'prostaglandins.')

    Yes, Lynn, I am .

    I'm Starving!

Be patient, girl. Not even a week out. It likely isn't hunger pangs when you sip at this point. Your stomach was just cut, it's still swollen, tissues need to heal. The discomfort is post-op discomfort and spasm of your stomach's response to what's coming down. . Trust me it ALL gets better. Again...you just had surgery. Be patient.

    When did you stop?

I stopped around 5th week. Haven't had one x 3 weeks now. Also, I don't lose weight with Splenda/ sucralose, so... I told the nutritionist and she said I'm doing great. Eat my protein with actual foods.

What kind of foods are you eating?

How do I contact this site's moderator? The app in my iPad for this site isn't working today. Anyone else have this problem today. .??

What kind of foods are you eating?

Don't suffer. Order it, you'll take 2-3 bites, and you're done. Craving satisfied. No stress. Put the rest in little containers and freeze. I'd try to avoid most of the rice, though; and don't eat it everyday or force it down in full and stretch your stomach.

    Protein shakes

Unjury Chocolate Splendor is delicious. Pure Protein ready to drink is good. However I won't use any of these because of sucralose/Splenda in them. I also mixed Isopure with Crystal Light. I have so many sample packs of Unjury. Oh well.

    Stalls and Not moving Bowels

As long as you are passing gas, aren't severely bloated with a tight abdominal wall, and not vomiting your food, you need not worry that there's a bowel obstruction or something like that. (People can have a 'partial obstruction,' but again, it seems you would have more discomfort, and some vomiting by now.) I occasionally take Perdiem tablets (2) at night to help with bowel movements. Ask your doctor if that's okay with them. An enema might help with the stool low in your system; it might be hard and not lubricated enough to pass. With that gone, the other may come down.. You said you weren't regular "before" so, with even less food, it's not surprising that you aren't regular now. But talk to your doc about Perdiem, also unripe pears, well chewed. Good luck and keep farting--it's a good thing!

I threw up in my sleep :(

Agree with above re: not lying down shortly after eating/drinking. I don't like the chalky taste of MOM so I use Perdiem tablets--two at night and I get results by morning.

    wish you got lap band?

Lapbands are mostly going out of favor due to complications such as erosions and not-as-good results re: weight loss. I can give more info later; maybe tomorrow. Depending on your BMI or other co-morbidities, it may actually be contraindicated; the sleeve or bypass might be a better option. As above, many former LapBand patients convert to the sleeve. Some surgeons still do the band, but in a recent medical conference of 4,000 bariatric surgeons (and some counselors, nutritionists, etc.), the LapBand is less well received or done these days. I'll try to post to this again tomorrow should I get time. Weigh all factors, then do what feels right for you. In any case, here's praying for a safe journey and no complications next week or after.

    Tasting Room - Protein Drinks

If you find/know of any without Splenda/sucralose in them, please let me know. Splenda blocks my weight loss.
  21. I did a test...and it worked. I stopped ALL products that contain Splenda/sucralose, and the scale finally moved...5 pounds last week! (I realize other stalls may come, just because. But this is a factor for my weight loss regimen.) My surgery was Dec. 4th; weight 257.2 then. I had one stall at 3.5 weeks/23 pounds down; then I got to 233 pounds (1/5/14) x 2 weeks; then I stalled at 227 pounds. I stayed there for nine days, and that was during the time of my doing more Protein shakes, bars and trying some of the protein powders. From past experience, I knew that sucralose/Splenda blocks my weight loss: "It's made from sugar, so it tastes like sugar." Well, in my body, it ACTS like sugar. Beginning 1/26/14, I stopped all bars, shakes, (and the unjury packs; I have many of them!). I stopped everything with sucralose in it. I only ate actual food protein--fish, chicken, steak, egg salad, laughing cow, even a knockwurst with mustard/relish. Evena few pork rinds. Today, I'm down five pounds from last week. I won't officially recommend this for others; check with your M.D. or nutritionist because, again, these products are the very things they encourage us to ingest. But I personally won't lose with them, so I won't use them anymore unless they are all I have around. Today I'm down to 222, or, at the doctor's office today, 220 on their scale, with clothes on! Two months, 37-38 pounds. I wanted 40 pounds, but I'm happy, and I'm wearing patns/jackets I haven't worn in over 4 years. And it's only Sweet & Low for me. Just a thought for others who have stalled.
  22. Catered...you are SO CLOSE to being in the 100s! Three-four pounds away! Focus on that short term goal. You are so close. Don't let (whatever) rob you of that. It's right in front of you; just a few more steps. C'mon, you can do it!!
  23. After I left my doctors office today, and got a good report, I picked up something I'd wanted, ate some, and the rest is in the fridge. I had curried goat, rice and Beans, and a bite of plantain. But I'm over it now. I'm drinking H2O. I want to keep moving down the scale and get in Onederland in three months. I guess we'll have temptations and may yield on occasion. But try to remember the goal.

    How I broke my STALL

Thanks, Blondiee; looks like we had surgery the same week, and have ~ the same results so far. Congrats to you, too.
  25. Dr-Patient

    I'm disappointed....

You might want to check with your nutritionist and perhaps do what I did last week as a test for myself, to end my latest stall: I totally gave up ALL products with Splend/sucralose in them and yes, the scale moved nicely!! Thank God. I'm going to post about it; check my feed later today. Practically ALL of the Protein shakes, bars, drinks, powders have that stuff in there and I do not lose weight with Splenda.I just don't. Maybe you're like me, since those products are prominently used with WLS. Drink your water; get in protein (which at eight weeks out, can be actual food) and start walking/exercising. You will lose weight (right now, your stomach gives you no choice), but try not to get too discouraged.
