    In And Out?

    Same here, McB! Outpatient. Same time in; same time out the door. (Dec. 4th). If the patient is otherwise "low risk," more docs are doing WLS on an outpatient basis. Not fully accepted by all yet, though. PS: At first I thought this thread was about the "In and Out" burgers I've heard about in California. LOL!

  3. Also, I know that I do not lose weight with Splenda/sucralose...and it's in practically all the "Protein this or that" supplements and products. I had to drop those early on. So, maybe watch that too. But first and foremost...step away from the carbs. Eating them is self-sabotage, and for sure, you're eating way too many.

    You're being very "good" for that "last supper." No dessert? Or two? :-) Mine was mild; I had two knockwursts and baked Beans. Oh well. But now, I enjoy some filet mignon or other meats. Hey, protein! Enjoy, whatever you eat, and remember, you'll likely still get to eat foods you like, just not in the same amounts. Have fun!
  5. Quick reply. In short, you are taking in WAY TOO MANY carbs. You will not lose weight with all those carbs. Go see your doc and nutritionist; be honest with them re: your intake, etc. take a food diary, etc. Sounds like you need to totally reset. (Some recent research indicates it takes 6-8 days to clear the metabolic and hormonal effect carbs has on us. It's likely that the carbs are giving you the hunger. Trust me, I just went through this myself after I treated myself to a "few potato chips," and, after fighting with them for a few weeks, I'm just now getting back to satiety with my Proteins, and not craving.) See your doc, but you must stop eating all those carbs. It's simply way too many. But chin up; get back on the horse. You can do it.

    Best idea ive heard yet. Send a man my way amd I will take that advice!! :-PGirl, I'm looking, too! But for sure I know what to do with him, and how to care for and treat him, once we find each other! But I'm 58 and I don't know where the good, single, solely heterosexual ones are! BUT...I am looking so good these days, my confidence is up and I am getting out, doing things, going places. Good luck to you, too. PS: I do have (and have usually had) men calling me, etc, even some wanting to marry; but the ones around are not exciting me at all. Dang. Is it too late for that mutual attraction? Also, folks are crazy these days (WTF!!!?), so it's kinda scary!

  8. I didn't have the tired, grumpy, sour stomach phase. But I did, and still do, miss cooking and eating regular, full-size meals. But, hang in there. It does get better, it really does. Especially when you start really looking good, noticeably thinner, sexier, etc. ( but still, I miss cooking those meals). I will admit that my recent battle (since I entered Onederland) is stopping the "just a few potato chips" and some fruits that I allowed myself. Six weeks, and I've gained back 4 pounds and am fighting to go full-"protein" again. I made it to 191.2, but am back to 195. Dang. Let's pray for each other!

    Mirrors and pictures

    I understand the fear of cameras when pre-op. But I understand about fat pics available for public consumption; you don't want anyone to see you that way, or to even see yourself. Actually, one picture of me (when I was at my max, and was on a panel as the health expert for a national magazine's event) is what led me into depression; but it also led me to seriously check into WLS.) Take pictures now; you'll love the comparison later.

    I do understand. In fact, the picture for me here on BP--my 'profile picture' that ~looks like a floral print--that is from a summer skirt, which I am almost able to wear! A few weeks ago I did the full clothing swap-out, and my closet is now full of oranges, reds, yellows, purples, golds, etc. I even donned a very colorful bathing suit I hadn't worn in 20 years and dang, does it, its colors--and my cleavage--look great!! (I haven't worn it out yet [it might be a bit much for others], but I took pictues and sent them to some 'special' fellas. Enjoy, getnhealthy; there's more of that to come! Have fun!

    To the OP, I'm only responding to your last posts, just so you are clear: My first edit was before your reply to me, so I didn't change anything to make it seem one way or the other. I don't do that. That's like altering a medical record. I would never change something that changes the course of events. In my second post, my edit was the addition of this comment: "In fact, I didn't ask you to do anything; I simply made an observation." because I thought it was pertinent. Now, I will not respond to you anymore. You were inappropriate and your nastiness was uncalled for. Own it. Have a nice day. PS [My Edit for this post]: I only entered this thread again because someone new liked my post. While seeing that, I happened to see your comments. I will NOT check back on this thread again, as I have no interest in people who try to defend their misplaced nastiness.
  12. I'm not a big drinker, and I never liked beer. But yea, after long-healed, you will be able to have something...in moderation. I've had wine, and also a martini 2 or 3 times in the near seven months since surgery. Also a sangria at Legal Seafood. Just be careful; as McButterpants said, absorption may be faster, so be careful and see how one glass of wine affects you before drinking more. Also many doctors find that some patients replace one addiction (food) with another. Not saying you will overindulge, but some do if they have addictive-tendencies.

    I agree. I don't live online, and this--BariatricPal--is the only board I am on because I do feel that most people here are here to support each other. I call those who seemingly overreact for no reason "rhetorical agitators": they bark for no reason, and also react before simply reading and understanding what was written. Like you, I just ignore that energy. Don't have time :-). Thank you for your post. :-)

And I said "kudos" to you, that means "congratulations; good for you." The nastiness of people online is so unnecessary and misplaced. We live in sad times.

    Also... chewing gum may cause you to swallow more air, hence expanding your stomach, putting tension on your stomach staple line. Suck on some Popsicles. They'll help your need for something sweet in your mouth, and hydrates you.

    @@slvrsax Hi. My highest weight ever was 271.2, ( my surgery day weight was 257.2), so, yeah, we were about the same weight, and are now. Re: Crystal Light: I love it, but all of these things have Splenda/sucralose in them, and I figured out years ago that I do NOT lose weight with Splenda. So...I hear ya! We'll get there, helpers one to another! All of us here.
  21. Last week many bariatric specialists convened in Miami. Here's the link to the agenda: https://spring.asmbs.org/schedule/. If I get time this week, I'll try to post links to the actual lectures. One focus: Periodic testing blood for "deeper" indicators of inflammation and potentially altered body chemistries, post-WLS. Ex: To help the "different" gut flora (bacteria), do pts need Probiotics on an ongoing basis? Also, should GBS/RNY, VSG and LB be done as an outpatient if the patient is uncomplicated, except for their BMI/weight? Hospitals will say no, as will hospital-based doctors. But does the patient need to bear that expense if they are otherwise low risk? (My VSG was done outpatient; anyone else? Did you do well?)

    Also Mercury is in retrograde. Crap happens. I am not one to follow astrology, nor live my life by it; and despite my being a true scientific-type, when "Mercury is in Retrograde" all kinds of hell can happen. Seriously. It has made a believer out of me. It can jack with you in many ways. It ends July 1st, so we all might need to just hang on as we do our best during this time of seeming to go backwards. :-)

    Back to bad habits

    Gina, I can relate. Since I passed through what had been my 20-year nemesis--'200 pounds'--and made it into Onederland on May 13th [weight 197.8 that day], I've been off-program. I was planning to post a topic: "Warning: Carbs: Once You get Started"... Like the song, oh, it's hard to stop. I have grazed on stuff I hadn't eaten in a while: potato chips; some crackers. a little bit of ice cream. Granted, I can't eat much of those things, but still... Dang. Fortunately, I have still lost a few pounds since May 13th, and have NOT seen '200' again. I'm hanging ~191-192 lbs. But I need to get back on track, as well. We can do it. I'm going to try to go cold turkey again re: the carbs, because they really can and do hook you, give you hunger, cravings, etc. I need more Protein, to get ~ketotic again, etc., and quell those urges and carb desires. Hang in there, and know you're not alone. [Oh...PS: Don't keep pointing to "childhood memories" at this point. Focus on what YOU--the adult--CAN do for YOU TODAY. Choose to be a victor, not a victim.] Hang in there, and/or go get counseling if you feel you really can't lay the childhood baggage down.

    Changing amount I cook

    This is the major "issue" I've not fully accepted. I, too, am a phenomenal cook; people love my food, and so do I! It is sooooo annoying not cooking as I used to do, and LOVE to do. And I'm a single woman (alas), so I don't have to cook for others with any regularity...unless I have a party, etc, which as been rare of late. But I am loving practically all else since VSG, so I have to just accept some things. At least you can cook for the hubby; just know your amounts will change.
  25. I had an Egg McMuffin this morning; but I just don't eat the bread. Maybe just one bite of it. The egg, cheese, Canadian bacon-- all good! I have had a Wendy's cheeseburger, but I can only eat maybe 1/2 of it. I finish it the next day sometimes. I had a slice of homemade pizza the other day, using onions, bell peppers, hot turkey sausage, cheese and spaghetti sauce baked on a whole wheat tortilla, but didn't eat the tortilla. The beauty of the sleeve. Love it.
