any recommendations for pureed food in the initial period?
joydenstar replied to joydenstar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi bufflehead, Thanks so much for your reply! I really appreciated it a lot I will definitely go and give the pureed meat a try and maybe get some flavours in. Cottage cheese and thinned down Protein chai tea are also good suggestions. I will bear that in mind in my visit to the supermarket. Thanks, again. -
Hi I was recently sleeved on Wednesday and was just discharged on Sat. No complications (Thank God!) but doctor wanted me to stay in hospital to rest and recover as my mum had her hands full with my niece. Also as well, I developed a fever and hence was not discharged on Friday. Could I check with you whether on top of the liquids we have to consume, do we had to consume Water in-between the beverages? My NUT told me to get 1.5litres of liquid in but I have forgotten to ask her if it is 1.5litres + 1.5litres of water. I was asking as water tasted metallic and I only used it to drink the stomach-protecting medicine. I actually thought that the hospital did the clean the cup too properly and that is why the water tasted metallic but to my horror, it tasted like that as well at home? Anyone has any suggestions how to get rid of the metallic taste? Your help is much appreciated and thanks in advance

Feel like throwing in the towel...

Please don't throw in the bucket I was looking at your nick and realised we are of the same age. We had really a lot of years to go enjoy and the delay pales in comparison to the abundant life you are able to enjoy in greater detail. I will pray for you to have a good person who will complete your paper work successfully. Do keep us updated! -

Hi #sassypants, once of the biggest things i could have from this surgery was to remove my sweet tooth so you are lucky! I was craving all the time for chocolate malt drink or soy milk because they satisfy my sweet tooth. Now I got to think of how to curb it -

Getting sleeved in 24hrs-nervous, scared, and an emotional wreck :(!
joydenstar replied to ny2fly's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
For myself, my mum is at home just in case. Just ask someone to be with you if possible. If not, do ask your kid to avoid knocking into you. I showed my niece my wound dressing and she had since treated me delicately. She had always been jumping on me and i was very nervous that she would do the same postop. You will do well! -

any recommendations for getting the needle in the veins more easily?
joydenstar posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi All, this might sound like a ridiculous question to all of you but i hope that i am getting all the help i can get. I always have difficulty getting the needle in for my blood tests and stuff as my veins are invisible to the nurses. Each blood test usually involved at least five pricks (in the mid arms of both hands as well as one or two on the palms). Even the veins on the palms are tricky. I held off the anesthesia for my endoscopy. With the surgery coming up, could you advise me if there is anything i can do to increase the veins' visibility? Thanks and appreciate your help so much! - to a happier and fuller 2014 ahead! -

joydenstar replied to joydenstar's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Guys, mini update. I was sleeved on 5 Feb. Would like to shout a Thank You to all of you who had replied as I had entered the room confident that they would find a vein regardless. The doctor poked me on the wrist and continually assured me that they would locate a suitable vein when i was asleep. I was just so grateful that the veins showed on the wrist at least! During the hospital stay, they also had 4 tubs of blood drawn at the high dependency unit and Thank God for patient nurses who took the time to seek the elusive vein which they found at my mid-arm. Another miracle. Thank you all for replying as I was so assured by all your updates -

What is the purpose of the pre-op liquid diet
joydenstar posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi All.. Just curious, I have been reading about the pre-op diet everyone is talking about before the surgery. I was wondering what is the use of this diet as my operation is scheduled on 5 Feb. What is the benefit of going for such a diet? I would want to do it if it will help the surgery in anyway. I might have had a confident or nice doctor who is nice enough not to order such a diet for me (as it was the Chinese New Year festival before that - something similar to Christmas) but I would definitely want to do it if it can help minimise complications in anyway. Would appreciate any form of advice. Thanks in advance. -
"No drinking 30 mins before/after eating" - probably a silly question
joydenstar replied to kwoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My nutritionist told me that not drinking 30 min before a meal is to ensure that the sleeve won't get stretched and stay the size it was. Not sure if it is 100% true but since she said so, I will definitely try to ensure that i obey this rule. Probably, you can use this as your motivation? -

Hi HarlemLoser, You are really speedy in your reply and funny too! I do not really have a strong sense of humour and did not catch your first phrase the first time round but upon relooking it the second time, I was "LOL" So I guess, I should also do some form of pre-op diet to help myself and the surgeon. It will be a struggle with all the celebratory lunches and dinners but I will get by and refrain from losing my will to live. Thanks a lot for helping this newbie! -

Are there other newbies on here?
joydenstar replied to sbailey1's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi All, I am new too! in fact, this is my first post. I will be having my VSG on 5 Feb 2014 (5 weeks from now). Really scared but filled with hope for a fuller, healthier and better life ahead =) I am glad to find bariatricpal as the country where i come from, Singapore, still views weight loss surgery as a cosmetic one. Although my boss and colleagues are sympathetic, they still think it is a beautifying surgery. I am glad I can have the chance to read all the posts here and be encouraged. To all of you, a better 2014 ahead!
