3 weeks post op. Not feeling too goid

I had the same symptoms and tried many antacids before any luck. My nausea started the moment I awoke from surgery, in fact, I was so nauseated that I could not drink water and ended up going back to the hospital two separate times for I.v. fluids and vitamins. I finally told my doctor that I wanted a prescription for Aciphex. I have worked in the medical field for years and know the success rate of that particular antacid. Finally after 7 weeks of hell I was prescribed a med that worked and after 2 days of taking it I was able to eat, drink and came back to life. I highly recomened asking your physician about it. Doctors are reluctant to prescribe Aciphex because most insurance companies do not cover it unless a bunch of other antacids have been tried and failed. Your physicians office will need a list of what you have tried so they can submit a form called a 'prior authorization' to your insurance company when trying to get this med approved. It will be approved, it is just extra paper work for the doctors office and a bit time consuming but that is their job, right? You are your best advocate and the squeaky wheel gets the oil. You do not have to suffer. Good luck and blessings.

    Emotional mess...!

I am so with you. My emotions can go from tears to rage in a matter of seconds. I am almost 5 months post op and though it has lightened up, it is still bad. I feel sorry for my husband and two young daughters. I feel like a basket case and am constantly apologizing for my behavior. I spoke to my surgeon about it at my 4 month follow up and he said it will eventually even out or go away. I sure hope so because I don't know how much more of this emotional roller coaster I can take. Hang in there, you are not alone.
  3. I am lactose intolerant and can not see, to find a Protein drink that I like or can tolerate. I am looking for the best bang for my buck sort of speak. High protein, low calories and inexpensive or at least sensible. Any suggestions would be very helpful. Here is a list of what I have tried and failed: Premier has lactose Muscle Milk Muscle Milk Light Beneprotein I am sure a few more that are not coming to me at the moment. Thank you in advance for your help

    Mood swings

I am right there with you. Don't know why but I can go from happy to crying to angry in a blink of an eye. My poor husband and kids are doing the best they can to deal with it but I feel terrible. I was sleeved 12/17/13 and am praying that in time it will get better.

    Complications

I am so sorry to hear you are having such a rough time. The patches worked like a miracle for me but after a week I started to build a tolerance for them and they started causing me side effects. (Dry mouth, metal taste, blurred vision, dizziness, irritation/ rash where the patch was placed) My surgeon said it was probably even causing my nausea, so be careful. It was the only thing that stopped the vomiting so I became dependent on them. I just did everything I could to get through the hard times and not end up back in the hospital, sounds like you are doing the same. Remember, it will get better in time. I would still do it all over again for the 40lbs I have lost and the way I feel now. Feel free to private message me

    Complications

You are not alone. I was sleeved 12/17/13 and from the minute I woke up I had sever nausea. This lasted for 6 weeks straight. I had to go to an infusion center 2 times for I.v. fluids due to sever dehydration. I tried 4 different anti nausea medications and 2 different antacids with out any success. Finally on the 6 week mark I was put on aciphex for my acid and started eating solid food. Up until this point I could not tolerate anything, even water. The only thing I could now stomach was ruffles potato chips with american cheese melted on top. Not ideal to say the least but it stayed in and gave me a little energy. After about 4 day of that concoction, I started eating other things and slowly came back to life. I still can not seem to get in enough water or protein I also wish I would have known nausea was a real side effect before having surgery however if I would have known how bad I was going to have it, I probably would have chickened out. The only bad thing is that, as soon as I started eating, I stopped loosing. I dropped 40lbs in that first 6 weeks. Since then I have lost 2 more pounds but that has been in the last couple days because I finally felt well enough to exercise. Having gone through it, here is what I recommend: Puke and ralley- drink water even if it come out to avoid dehydration and having to get fluids through an I.v. Eat what you think you can stomach even if it is carbs. At this point you need to recover any way you can. Make sure your acid is under control with medication. Hang in there, you are most definitely not alone but it does get better.

    So Dry....

I am so dry. My skin, especially my face. Prior to surgery my face was oily and now I am dry as a bone. I know I am not getting in enough liquid and am boarder line dehydrated at all times. I wonder if that is why I am so dry? I can not seem to put on enough lotion. Any one else have this happen? I am 10 weeks post op and down 41lbs.
  8. I am not familiar with these bars. Please clue me in on why they are so good and where I can buy them. I am always looking for new foods, especially bars. Thank you in advance.
  9. I can relate to your questions very much. At 3 weeks out I thought the same thing. 6 weeks was my turning point. I got hungry and wanted real food. Not just protein shakes. Once I started eating more solids I started experiencing the full sensation. I had not felt full up until that point though. As far as getting enough protein..... Put protein powder in everything you can or stick with your shakes. Those are the 2 best bang for your buck type ways. Are you on an antacid? I was having extreme acid reflux that sounds a little like what you are describing. Just a guess. I have it so bad that it took 3 different meds to find one that worked and I have to take it twice a day. Good luck

What kind of foods are you eating?

I am 8 weeks today and can eat anything my stomach can tolerate and so far it has tolerated everything I have given it. I, like you, had a bad craving for rice, veggies and chicken. I ate it. I made it fresh at home though. I took a couple bites, was satisfied for a couple hours then had a couple more bites... at this point, it is all about what you can tolerate. Remember to chew well and eat slow.
  11. My surgeon told me that during surgery, your diaphragm can be disturbed and may cause you pain and or hiccups later on due to it. I don't have hiccups but I have had sharp pain on my right side and when I inquired well, that was his answer

    what to drink?

Thank you for the suggestions. I am going to make some herbal tea right now. Berry zinger. The tea from Starbucks sounds good and I will have to try some before committing to a box off Amazon. I have tried crystal light and mio, real heavy on the water and light on the flavor and still heartburn city and nausea.
  13. I am lactose intolerant and having a hard time with anything sweet or with artificial sweeteners. Propel zero is too sweet as is crystal light or any Mio type drops to flavor your Water. I am getting sick of almond breeze and water seem too harsh on my stomach. All of my taste buds have changed and nothing tastes good or right. Ice is too cold and my stomach doesn't like that either. I am getting really dehydrated and don't know what to do. Here is what I have tried and failed for some reason or another: Water with lemon, crystal light, any water flavoring drops, lactaide, propel zero, Gatorade, tea, hot coco, flat soda, regular soda, ice, popsicles, Jello. Help. I have not tried coconut water but will in the near future. I have not tried juice and am afraid to. I am still nauseated but am at least holding down most things now. 6 weeks post op and need some fluids. Any suggestions would be most helpful.

    Puree Phase

My Puree phase is fast approaching. I am so excited to eat again but am a little nervous. I am still having a hard time with acid and nausea. My surgeon just put me on a second nausea med and told me an over the counter antacid was fine. I will pick those up later today and start them. Here is my questions: What do you suggest eating during the puree phase? Was there anything you tried that you regretted after? Any suggestions or comments would be very helpful. Thank you in advance

    Losing weight preop!?! Help!

Loosing weight prior to your surgery is super important. It reduces the risk of complications during surgery 99%. When loosing 10% of your body weight is lost, your internal organs shrink, allowing the instruments to get in and get the job done. If your organs are too big the Doctor may decide that going in laproscopiclly (sp?) is too risky and instead open you up leaving a huge scar from the bottom of your breast bone to the top of your pubic bone. A girl friend of mine could not manage to loose but 5lbs prior to surgery amid well she has the scar. I am not saying this will happen to you but something to consider. Another thing about loosing the weight prior is surgery is the feeling of accomplishment. As far as the diet goes, I agree 100% with what has already been said except for the diet pills. The only thing I would add is to drop the caffeine and only drink non caloric, non carbonated, non caffeinated drinks. Propel zero, water, water with lemon, water with crystal light or other flavor enhancers, sugar free hot coco, milk, tea, broth, ect. Keep a bottle in your hand at all times and sip away the day. This will help you stay a little more satisfied though you are not consuming nearly what you use to. Lastly, don't beat your self up if you slip. We are all human and its going to happen. Learn from it and move on. You will do great. I am rooting for you and you are not alone. Just an FYI, I was sleeved on Dec. 17th and down 28lbs with 60lbs to go to hit goal.
