    clear liquid protien

I looked at reviews of unflavored Protein powder and picked one with good reviews (Isopure zero carb), I've been able to add it to Jello, pudding, Soups and mashed potatoes. Also when I was in the hospital they gave us Sunkist protein shots, they taste a lot better then the other protein shots I've tried. I've had a hard time finding them but would recommend them if you can find them. The protein is so important to heal properly and so your body knows your not starving.

Do you order a plate of food?

We've talked about this, and I'm planning to just eat off the husband's plate. As a family we always order too much food anyway, between the 4 kids and us, we all like a variety of stuff and we usually have at least 2 apps on the table so theres something for everyone (pickey eaters). The day before surgery when I was on the clear liquid diet, we went to steak and shake for lunch, the husband ordered a yummy burger and I ordered a spoon (I made the husband stop at the store so I could get a jello). The waiter gave me a weird look, but I'm sure he's seen worse. LOL
  3. Did your Dr put you on anything to help with the stomach acid post-surgery? Mine put me on something for that (it's generic so I don't know what it's called). Just wondering, because if not, maybe something like that may help.
  4. I just want to be able to walk into an Old Navy and be able to shop. I want to be in regular clothes and not be limited to online shopping and specialty plus size stores.

    Help Please! So Many Questions?

I had my band done in 2007, at that time, I thought that was the best and safest option. I lost 30lbs in the beginning, but my port flipped and I had to have a surgery in April '08 to fix it, then I had a leaky port which was replaced and for the last 2 years I've had hernia style pain nearly everyday from the tubing from the band to the port rubbing my muscle wall. I have BCBS insurance and since the band was giving me issues, I had to wait 3 months to have a revision, but I had to have an appointment each month, I had to show medical records of my weight over the last couple years and I had at have the psyc evaluation again and see a nutritionist again also. All those appointments cost money, so it adds up. Bands are time consuming and can get expensive, a specialist copay every week or two until you get to a place where your band is working, but as you lose weight then you'll need more fills cause your stomach will shrink some. The fills can be painful, one office I went to used Lanicane to numb the area before doing the fill, that was more painful then the actual needle stick. The other office I went to for fills did not numb the area, they merely had me sit up in a crunching position and he did the fill that way. Some surgeons will not do a band removal and revision in the same surgery. The bands can cause damage to the stomach which can also lead to a healing time before further surgery can be done. If you are unsure still, don't rush into one surgery when your considering another. Why put yourself at risk and in pain for multiple surgeries, if you don't need to. Do your research and be confidant in your decision before you make it. I wish the sleeve was an option for me in 2007 so I didn't waste the last 6 years of my life being fat and in pain. Then the only surgeries insurance would pay for was the band or bypass, and I didn't want the bypass, I figured the more stuff to move and reroute, the more risk of complications. Good luck in your journey and your decision.
  6. I use Tylenol Arthritis, it's dosage is higher, maybe I'm just one of the lucky ones who Tylenol helps. Have you tried things like heating pad, message ect?. My Dr prescribed a TENS unit for my back pain, I love it. I like to stay as medicine free as possible so when I told my Dr I wanted something other then meds to help with the pain he ordered me the TENS unit. If your insurance will cover it, I'd suggest one.

    Tried soft foods... Totally bummed

Every Dr and the post-op sleeve diet they require is different. My surgeon is strict about what to try and when. 1st few days were Clear Liquids followed by cream Soups and milk, then this week (15 days to 21 days post op) I was able to add soft cooked veggies and egg substitute to my diet. Next week (day 22-29) I can add tuna fish. 36 days post-op I can add toast and crackers ect. My diet also says to save steak and pork chops for last foods to add. I think my Dr is so cautious because he wants to keep his success numbers high and complications low. Knock on wood he has never had a leak or a death. The other Dr with him had 3 deaths due to clots and 2 leaks.

    starting my own pre-op diet

My Dr put me on an Adkins style diet(with no sugar) 10-14 days pre-op followed by clear liquids the day prior. My Dr's reasoning was the low carb diet would help shrink my liver before surgery. I lost 13 lbs before surgery.
  9. I am 20 days post-op of having a band to sleeve revision. Last night the weirdest thing happened, it worried my EMT husband, and now that its over I'm a little concerned about it. This could be unrelated, but it started after I laid down and my left sholder gave me a horrible sharp pain, it went away when I wasn't laying on it, but then I started uncontrollably shivering (teeth chattering and everything). My husband had me get up to make sure there wasn't a sholder injury, cause he first thought I was showing symptoms of shock, no injury. Then I laid back down in bed and started crying hard, and I couldn't help it. I wasn't in pain at that time,no reason for the crying. My husband started asking me about my food intake for the day and with it being Christmas I didn't keep count of my Protein so he had me go drink a glass of chocolate milk. By the time it took me to drink it, my body had calmed down and the shivering was minimal and the crying over. I went stright to bed and went straight to sleep (again, unusally) Anyone out there experiance something like this?
  10. Good luck!!! I had my band Sept.'07, then the port flipped so another surgery a few months later, then a leaky port and constant pain so I decided to do the sleeve. Today I am 20 days post-op and feel great.

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Hi all, I am 33, 5'6 and had pre-op and pre-suregery diet weight of 276lbs. I had a band to sleeve revision done on 12/6/13 and in looking for answers, I stumbled onto this website.
  12. I'm a former bander also. I had the Lap-band done Sept 2007, and lost 30 lbs in the beginning then the port flipped so April 2008 I had to have a surgery to move the port, then I got pregnant in 2009 and when they removed the Fluid for the pregnancy they pierced the tubing so after 2 babies back to back they did another surgery to repair the port and I've had nothing but pain since then so I finally got a revision, 12/6/13. My surgeon removed the band and I opted for the sleeve. 15 days post-op and I finally feel normal again, so I am so excited about the sleeve and the journey ahead in weight loss.

    Guys I need your help!

Whenever I get weak, I have figured out it is due to not enough Protein. My first 8-10 days was diarrhea I figured it was normal due to the liquid diet. Yes hydration is important, but your pee will let you know if dehydration could be a culprit, if your pee is dark yellow or orange then yes you are dehydrated, it should be a light yellow to clear color. Just remember to keep your protein intake to what your Dr recommends, my Dr wants his paitents to maintain between 70-100g everyday.
  16. Don't doubt yourself or your decision, the first few days are rough, but it gets better, I promise. I'm 15 days out and my 1st week was horrible, I couldn't sleep laying down, I felt like I pulled a muscle under 1 incision, and then I had an allergic reaction to the adesive which made me feel worse. sip what you can and take your meds. What helped me was walking, my surgeon scared me so bad about geting a blood clot, I was up walking every hour. Now it was uncomfortable to walk, until I figured out I needed to carry my belly, by holding up my belly it wasn't pulling on my incisions and didn't hurt as bad, then I started wearing my spanx and that helped me be able to sleep laying down and it helped with the pain. By 8 days out I wasn't using anything for pain, even tylenol. Now I'm 15 days out and I feel normal. A support system is important, your family may be trying to say they told you so right now, maybe you just need to tell them to keep any negative thoughts to themselves right now while you heal and while you need them. Because as you feel better and your weight drops, it will be you who will be able to say I told you so. Hang in there
